COV-19 sure put a damper on outdoor activities that I so much enjoyed in the past. My sister, cousin and I played tourists, window shopping, browsing and stopping at three other businesses (Mow Lee Shing Kee & Company, Wycen Food, Eastern Bakery) before arriving at Asian Renaissance. What caught my eyes, but the cute and colorful jackets on the plush dogs, the succulents/plants and masks/face coverings. I know I shouldn't buy any more masks, as I have a wardrobe of them. However, I could not resist the purple one that was in a clear plastic bag. Price: $14.95 + 1.29 for tax. I didn't stay too long as we were hungry and on our way to Market Street to find somewhere to have lunch. I shall return to Asian Renaissance to show my support of a small business in SF Chinatown.

This store is located at the heart of chinatown. It is clean and has a lot of stuff. The person working here was pretty nice and helpful. At places like these, you can haggle but they wouldn't haggle with me. Be prepared to not get a great deal. She told me that they were the only place in chinatown who sold these kinds of dresses because the boss designed the dress herself. They weren't willing to budge. That was fine. I have no regrets about buying the dress though.

They have great items to give as gifts or to just buy for yourself. You may find that item that you never knew you needed. But, the problem I have with the shop is with either the owner or the person who was operating the cash register. My wife and I came in here. We were just walking down Haight Street and she loves these kind of shops. So, we decided to stop in and check it out again. As we were shopping, I noticed that there was this young boy at the counter. I would guess that he was about ten years old. The young boy was trying to buy three pins. He had given the the person at the cash register a dollar bill and all of his change. But, the woman rudely told him, that he didn't have enough money and to come back when he did. Hearing this, I asked how much did the young boy need to buy those pins? The woman told me fifty cents. I happily gave the boy the money. He thanked me, smiled, and walked out the door with his three pins. I'm sorry, but if a local business owner, or business employee, can't offer a child fifty cents to make him happy, there's really something wrong with this business and/or this business's operational ideology. If it's the the owner reading this, does fifty cents really make a difference to your bottom line?. If this is the employee that treated that young boy in manner, let me say, that's really the wrong way to treat customers, particularly when they're young people moving their way up though the world. Well, maybe it's because Barack is dressed inexplicably in a gold Elvis suit - while Michelle is in her simple Donna Ricco sundress without her famed toned arms (see photo). I guess Barack is the King. There certainly isn't a lack of souvenirs to be found when taking a stroll down Grant Avenue in Chinatown, but China Bazaar stands out for having the tackiest and often most hilarious merchandise in the 'hood. That's high praise in my book. Their balls-to-the-walls approach is certainly a contrast to the more expensive silk lanterns and jade statues you can get elsewhere. And yet, this is the one I always browse. Where else could I get a solar-powered geisha-gal bobble-head to adorn my bathroom (see photo)? I'm sure my guests stare at it with envy as they're doing their business.

Used to come here every now and then for anime figures, but haven't been back since I stopped…read morecollecting. I started coming again now that I got into model kit building and painting and I have a totally new appreciation for this place. Due to the small size of the store, the selection is not comprehensive, but I always find very cool things every time I come in. I usually shop for gunpla, military model kits, game miniatures, and hobby supplies like paints and glues. I'm fine with paying a bit more to support a local store, but I'm always pleasantly shocked that prices here are either roughly the same as online or cheaper! I don't keep up with anime figure prices anymore so I can't tell you if the prices on those are as competitive. I can only vouch for the model kits/miniatures/supplies. The biggest downside is the place is super cramped, but in a way it's also somewhat of a plus because I can look around at the various stacked boxes and find lots of treasures. Plus the person behind the counter (think he's the owner?) is very nice and patient.

The store offers a variety of collectible/fun items at competitive and relatively low prices. They have a rotating and wide selection of figures from various franchises that other stores in the Japantown mall might not have, even the Kinokuniya. During my last visit (12/17/2025) in particular I remember they had a huge selection of Spy Family figures and many of the Project Sekai Sega Prize figures but they also carry other merch from many other franchises like JJBA, Love Live, and MHA. The store limits its capacity to six customers at a time but that's only because they have so much items in the store! The employees are very nice and help get the items you want quickly, every item I've purchased from here has been unopened and in perfect condition. Highly recommend this store
