A group of friends and I came here a while back after a day playing Magic the Gathering at the adjacent convention center. We wanted to eat somewhere within walking distance, and most of us were interested in burgers. There was quite a long wait, but since it was after a day of events at the convention center, there were thousands of people going to eat, so I don't really hold it against them. We probably got seated within 45-60 minutes, which with no reservation, was realistically not bad. And they had menus up in the windows, which allowed us to order as soon as we sat down, which was nice. One of my buddies and I each ordered the Paul Bunyan, and I don't remember exactly what everyone else had. We had a decent wait on food (and water refills when needed), but again, it was a very busy evening. This was the first time I had a bison burger (though I've had a couple more at this point), and it was quite tasty. You can definitely taste a difference in quality from a regular burger. The sprouted grain bun wasn't my favorite, and while it was good, it wasn't mind-blowing. I would assume on a night without an event (or a location further from the convention center), the wait won't be as long, and you can definitely get a pretty tasty burger here. read more

We visited Bareburger for dinner on a Friday night, excited for a burger and a milkshake. Expecting it to be crowded, we got there a little early, but we were one of only five parties there--maybe not so great for the restaurant, but definitely a pleasant rarity on a Friday night in Columbus. Though we originally came for burgers, we didn't end up ordering any because there were so many tasty options. We started with chocolate milkshakes, delicious and not overwhelmingly large. For entrees, I got a fried chicken sandwich and my friend got the California BLT. We both enjoyed our meals and the fries and onion rings we split. Our server was very fun and prompt! He helped us pair sauces with our meals and made sure we had everything we needed. I will definitely be back! I suspect this spot isn't too crowded for dinner because there isn't much night life surrounding it, but that's ok with me! This is a great spot right on High Street in downtown Columbus. It has absolutely adorable decor and a super welcoming vibe. When you enter, there is a bar immediately on your right when you enter and a relatively spacious dine-in area immediately in front. There is awesome bear themed decor all over the walls and there is always something to look at. The menu is the real standout. This would be an ideal place to bring anyone with dietary preferences and/or restrictions. There is a build your own burger section that offers many different meat options including veggie burgers and your choice of toppings. There are many dishes that are great for sharing and we decided to order from that menu. We ordered the panko chicken fingers and the mixed French fries and onion rings to share. I've been a longtime customer here, but over the last year or so the service and food quality has decreased significantly. For some reason they are no longer able to cook your burger to order - they just make them all well done, and they tried to gaslight me my telling me that's always been the case. That's absolutely not true; I have always ordered a rare bison burger and it always was cooked correctly. Now I'm told "the grill we use cooks everything the same temperature" whatever that means. Tonight, we couldn't even get seated because apparently even though the website and sign outside the restaurant says they're open until 9, they apparently only do take out starting at 8:15 according to the disinterested, rude hostess. When I told her that they should put that on their sign or website (which would have prevented us from wasting our time and coming here) she shrugged and walked away. I'm done giving you my money, since you clearly don't want it. I didn't say anything when you served me 3 tiny onion rings for the same price as before when you would serve a decent amount, but being lied to by rude staff is the final draw. I have to imagine this place will be out of business soon, and hopefully a restaurant that cares about having people eat there takes it's place. read more

I was really looking forward to eating a late lunch today. We waited for about 30 and no one stoped by our table to say hi or take our order. Turns out there was one person waiting on all of the tables. They need more workers and a lot more communication with the customers. They seem to have updated their menu, and no longer are featuring elk or mooseburgers for lunch, but they still do have bison, as well as a decent selection of vegetarian and gluten-free burgers-- if you're vegan, don't stay away merely because of the word "burger". And it is still a nice, friendly, low key place (and still has a nice selection of milkshakes). Mary likes the homemade slaw here-- a bit different from most; very light. I am wavering between four and five stars, but I think I'll go with five, especially if you like locally sourced and organic food. I've definitely fallen out of love with Bareburger... It used to be a great experience with one of the best burgers in town. But over the last year or two, everything has been kind of meh. The service is never good anymore. The food is okay. My burgers are not as good as they used to be, but I'm still thrilled they offer me a gf bun option. They've served my husband raw chicken so many times that I can barely even get him in here anymore. You know how you do some research before heading on a weekend trip to find a great place to eat while you are out of town, that's exactly what I did for this place. I did a quick Yelp search for places close to my hotel, offered some great bar food, and was quirky to visit. Bareburger fit that bill. I loved how the inside was decorated, it gives you that rustic feel that makes you forget the hustle and bustle just outside the door. From the distressed wood to the culinary industrial lighting (is that a thing? Culinary industrial??) made this place look different, but in a good way. The staff were warm and welcoming, gave us our space when we needed it, but knew exactly when to come by when we were ready to order or if we needed anything else. I especially liked how smoothly the ordering went. When we did order we started with an appetizer of a mix of french fries and sweet fries. These come with two dipping sauces; special sauce and curry ginger ketchup. When I inquired into what the special sauce consisted of I was told it was a mixture of mayo, ketchup and mustard. Pretty tasty if you ask me. Then there was the curry ginger ketchup, I would say it is hard to describe what it tasted like, but I think this will sum it up for you: the curry ginger ketchup tasted like a flavor packet that belongs in ramen noodles. It was odd, but something kept me dipping. As for my main course I opted for the Supreme with a side of dill pickles. The burger was more than a meal by itself. Beef burger topped with Colby cheese, fries, green leaf lettuce, country bacon, special sauce on a brioche bun. You think that's it? Nope, top all of that with some onion rings. I was half tempted to put some of my pickles on the sandwich, but I refrained. I'm glad I refrained, those pickles were damn near amazing. Fresh and crispy, the amount of dill wasn't overpowering at all. I must of looked greedy while sitting there with all that food in front of me. What made me look greedier was the fact that I downed all of it. Call me greedy then, I'll own up to that. read more

My side of cole slaw was a steep $3.85 and was definitely the weak link - it was bland and flavorless. I threw in the towel after a few bites. I selected a Jackie O's dark beer that was very good. The menu is very ambitious - you can build your own burger from a dizzying selection of meats, cheeses, buns, vegetables, sauces and relishes, or you can choose one of 14 pre-selected varieties. They also offer a lot of salads, sandwiches and fries. Seriously, there is something for everyone here. This was my first visit to a Bareburger, and according to the website they are all over - with some locations in NY, FL, CT, NJ, and even Tokyo and Frankfurt. We walked here from the Arena District after the crawl for cancer. Thankfully, our party of 8 was able to easily get a table... probably because 5:30p is an early dinner for Short North restaurants. Our server was great and overall the food was good. Their menu had a lot of great burger options (veg options too). There were so many that I had a hard time choosing what to get - I wanted almost everything. We started with sweet potato fries for the table. They were fantastic. A thicker cut, but thinner than a wedge, so it had a nice crunch on the outside and a soft inside. Highly recommend. I ordered the impossible burger for dinner. Not sure if it was the way they cooked it or the patty itself, but I wasn't terribly impressed. Especially given it cost $13-14. Everything I had seen about the impossible burger said it would be juicy like a burger, but this one was dry. No bueno. Next time I go, I'll probably try their bison. You don't see bison very many places outside of Ted's. If you check in, they give you a free ice cream sandwich. It was legit. The vibe is very casual, and the booth decor is very cool with rising backs. Not too much of an inside waiting area when the bar is full on a busy Friday evening. The service was good, but the food took a while to come out - not sure the kitchen could handle the busy night. We all love a good burger. So I had high hopes for this place. But I feel this place falls a bit short for me. First thing I'm going to say is that the food is not worth the price. Period. It is expensive prices and the burgers do not offer that much flavor at all in my opinion. Both times I've been here my burgers were dry and not that flavorful. I got the Burger topped with brisket and the first time (Buckaroo). Then I got the supreme burger the second. Both looked look on the menu. But really disappointed when got them. Neither time was the burgers hot. Also they are not big at all, ESPECIALLY for the price. I'd say they rank low on my list for burgers spots. Their fries and onion rings failed to me as well. The fries more so then the Onion rings. The fries came out not warm both times. The Rings and fries also come with choice of 3 sauces. The only good one is the Specials sauce I believe. The other ones I just didn't dig at all. The service was really lacking the second time I went. I had asked for Mayo on the side and it wasn't brought out with my burger. Normally I can excuse that because as humans we all forget sometimes. But the fact was the server was missing basically for HUGE amounts of time the whole night. I got my burger and legit had to wait about 10-15 minutes before I seen her (Another server brought out the food) to ask her for some Mayo. So it was probably over 30 minutes since I seen the server all together. It was pretty bad, and made my experience worse. The first time I can the service was ok. Nothing good and not bad. But if feel like restaurants aim to have outstanding service no matter what. So both instances fell short of what you should expect. I don't really like the interior of this place. It has décor and stuff like that. However it still feels "Plain", and open. I'm not sure how to really describe it. But it just doesn't do it for me. However I don't really like to rate restaurants on this, because the food and the service is what matters most. Overall I probably would not recommend this to friends. I'd tell them to visit Ted Montana's, Thurman's or even places like Red Robin or Five guys honestly. Not a fan at all of this place. Probably won't come back, only if invited by someone. There is just too much not right for me. They have a cool concept and everything with their menu.
