Slam dunk! Awesome deal, beyond great service and good food! Quite the surprise with Bareburger. I happen to come at an off time so I literally had the entire restaurant to myself. What a cute vibe: tropical with a mix of old school. They have a bar separate from the dining tables and booths giving lots of different seating options. They offer an incredible lunch special for a DOLLAR you can add fries and a soda to your burger. The burger was cooked perfectly and fries hit the spot with just a hint of salt. I opted for a single patty which was plenty, couldn't even finish it. On a side note the guys working Leo and the shift manager were running it as if they owned it. I was looking to cool down and enjoy a nice burger for lunch, but it was warm inside with no air conditioning and service was disorganized and slow. Unfortunately this was not a very standout burger to me. It was super messy and even with the garlic aioli added, it was just alright. I tried ordering online but it was strange because before paying it would send my order and I was trying to edit my order and it would let me. I have never been treated so poorly by staff. I went pick up my order with MealPal, and after scanning and confirming my order with a male staff, I waited for about 15 minutes. Another person came in and scanned his MealPal order, and his order came out first, before mine. The male staff clearly forgot to put my order in. Went here on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation and there was no wait! I couldn't decide what to get, so I went with the server's recommendation for a juicier burger--the Cilantro Black Bean. My friend and I both got combos with fries and a drink. The burger was massive, and the fries were super generous and seasoned perfectly! My burger was messy to eat--juicy and full of flavor, which was awesome! Definitely one of those meals you need to have at the restaurant or at home, though, not in a park or outdoors because of how messy it got. I loved how they didn't skimp on the avocado, the pickled onions weren't overpowering, and the patty was moist! The only downside? The bun felt a little weirdly cold. It was toasted but just not warm enough, which was a bit meh. The fries were fresh, crispy, and had some skin on them, which made them even better! Loved that they had unlimited drink refills. Ordered pickup online from the Bareburger website. Double Smash burger with sunny egg and bacon extras, along with a vanilla milk shake. Plus tip + $40.00. When I arrive to pickup my food I ask about the Bison Burger which is no longer available. I'm told that Kips Bay is now a "Test" kitchen with a focused menu. I notice there is no milkshake in the bag and they tell me "2 minutes". 10 minutes later the shake finally arrives and by the time I get home the egg has dried, the beef is lukewarm and the bacon is chewy. It doesn't matter how fantastic the burger is, and let's face it, it's just a burger, waiting 10 minutes for a shake that costs $10 (probably the highest margin food item on the menu) it ruins the whole experience. Kips Bay used to be quick, easy and they would always get the order right. Maybe they should "test" that! read more

I ordered the Farmstead, which is literally a vegan burrito. It consisted of sweet potato, kale, and wild rice patties, hummus, tomatoes, and basil avocado dressing all wrapped up with collard green leaves. Bareburger is one of the spots I always visit while in NYC. I've visited many of their locations across the city and the food NEVER disappoints. The decor of the restaurants are funky and are often a depiction of animals in clothing. My server was helpful, friendly and attentive during the visit. I ended up ordering the Paul Bunyan burger and fries. Paul Bunyan: bison, blue cheese, Black Forest bacon, bourbon pear jam, caramelized onions in a sprout bun. The question I have to ask sometimes when I review is, "is it fair to review it this way when this place is obviously not for me?" We also had the Macho fries, this wasn't so bad, the latin flavors used weren't exactly authentic, but honestly it was the better part of the meal in entirety. Burgers were very average themselves. I tried the supreme, the rest of my party were non meat eaters so they had the beyond and impossible burgers which they barely finished as is. I was happy to see Bareburger expanded their menu and now offers a widely vegan friendly lineup. I hadn't been to a Bareburger since 2014. This location is inviting and relatively close to my job and complete with open space and new fixtures. Their pay system is tech forward and the staff are pretty friendly. The food: I've now tried two of their vegan burgers and I'm not impressed. The sprout bun is pretty dry and tough and the black bean patty is the most tasteless and equally dry one I've had to date. The concept is cool and I appreciate the extension of vegan offerings, but the execution fails. Hopefully they'll switch out the choice of vegan patty and get a softer bun and create a juicer more appealing vegan burger. read more
