The fries were also really good, you could tell they weren't frozen or sitting around for too long. My friend ordered the tacos, and she really liked them. The only thing was that they were a little sweet for her taste. My other friend ordered the Coach's Plate with two meats, and he was very satisfied with his meal. They both really liked the mac and cheese and the green beans as well. The place was nice and clean, the service was warm and friendly, and our food came out pretty quickly. Overall, we had a really good experience and would definitely recommend this place!

Barbeque is one food category that I am fairly picky on and it is hard to get a high rating from me…read moresince I am well traveled in Texas and have sampled some of the finest that Texas BBQ has to offer. Today, I ate at Coach's Bar-B-Que in McGregor, TX, right off of US 84. Coach's has been there for a while and is a local favorite. This was not my first visit, but it is a place I often stop when I an in the area. This is your typical Texas BBQ joint with a few twists. They apparently have a broad selection of other dishes. I have heard they make a mean pizza and that the catfish is worth the try. The service is warm and friendly, but the real treat of Coach's is the memorabilia scattered throughout the restaurant. From Texas license plates of every age to a collection of football helmets, it make the place feel lived in with history to back it up. There is ample seating indoors and out, with a large covered patio available at the front where you enter. Today, I selected a three meat plate with Brisket, Sausage and Ribs, along with their Campfire Beans and some Fried Okra. Again, it is hard to impress me with barbeque, but I will compliment the Brisket for being moist, tender with a good smoke ring. They use a traditional Texas style seasoning, simple salt and pepper, and the smoke was well infused through out the meat. Their Regular Sausage was well flavored, if a bit dry, with a nice black pepper finish, giving it a good pep at the end. It was the Ribs that I was a bit disappointed in. While well flavored and ample in size, they were a little tougher than I remember them being in the past. The Fried Okra was a bit of a let down too. While crunch and fresh when it came out, there was just not much flavor to the side dish. The real star of the plate by far was the Campfire Beans, a traditional style of barbeque baked beans, enhanced my trimmings of chopped brisket in the mix. Those could have been a meal unto themselves. If you are in the area of McGregor, check out Coach's. It is not a bad experience by far, but it is not one of the Texas legends either.

Potatoes were also like warm and the cheese did not even melt on the potatoes, The potatoes were done but could have been warmer in order to melt the cheese. Serive was goof and it di not take long for the meal to be ready for us to pick up. Good surroundings and atmosphere was quiet for the time we were in the restaurant. Just wish those items were warmer with our meals. Thank you

Texas barbecue and barbecue in general has gotten really popular and hence a bit more pricey. But…read moredef not paying crazy inflated prices here. I remember eating bbq in the 4th ward of Houston for super cheap with kool-aid (for free) as a drink. I've also been to a lot the "hip spots" that are run by whomever is a cool smoke pit master. I've had the meat sweats in Lockhart... and this place is representing Central Texas really well! Just an FYI, bbq was meant to make the cuts of meat that weren't the best.... delicious. Hence the amount of time it takes to get it right. This place is run by some of the nicest people I have ever met. There is nothing pretentious about this place (which makes me really happy) and the servings are hefty... and the price is right. I ordered a plate that came with one meat, two sides (potato salad and cole slaw) and a bottled sweet tea for $16.24 before tip. Oh! Obligatory white bread - two slices.. not just one. The ribs were great. Not necessarily fall off the bone... but nicely cooked with great smokey flavor. Potato salad was very close to some of the German potato salad I have had overseas. (But with the name, I can see why). Cole slaw was also good - not too vinegary and not too sweet. This is a really great value. Now, this spot is in between two bars. It has a walk up window and a nice area to eat outside next to it. They do take card and not just cash. There appears to be a port-a-potty for usage. But if you're "thirsty thirsty" for a nice ice cold adult beverage, I recommend you go to the bar to the left with the Marine Corps flag flying and not to the right with all the biker parking. Exceptions can be made if Rachel is working... Get you some meats!
