Even though I read the reviews I was surprised at how good this place is! We have been to several BBQ joints, most of which have been chains. This is the first BBQ place that was actually worth the price!! The food is excellent! We had the meat platter which gives you the choice of one, two or three different types meat with your choice of two sides. We each had the three meat platter and we both chose pulled pork, moist brisket and ribs. Our sides were French fries and potato salad. The pulled pork had so much flavor and the brisket was actually moist, which seems to be very hard for other places to get right, and the ribs were cooked perfectly! The hill county of Texas has some great barbecue, this place is not one of them. This is the worst barbecue I have ever had. I ordered 2 rib baskets one with fries and Mac and cheese, the other with fries and green beans. I got no fries at all. The ribs had no smoke flavor, were extremely tough and were so salty they were inedible. My wife's Mac was horrible. The green beans were ok. I literally threw the food away. I know it's a BBQ joint, but any "cook" should know how to cook a cheeseburger. First bite was good, everything after that was just-cooked beef and at least a tablespoon of salt. I couldn't finish it. I think the extra salt was meant for the fries that I ordered but did not receive. We shall write it off as COVID related miscommunication. Better luck next time. I came on a day where at least 25 members of military from Fort Hood came for lunch and owner gave them their meals for free as a thank you for their service. What an amazing gesture by the owner. They have a drive thru, if you're on the go, as well. The food was great. The prices were good for the amount of food you get. The meat was fresh and moist. I really had heard good things and really wanted to like it. The BBQ smelled really good in the bag but now after trying to eat, it was possibly the worst barbecue I have ever had in my life. The 4 of us agreed. I have eaten BBQ at some of the best places in Texas. This did not even come close. The only thing palatable was the beans. The brisket was so salty I couldn't even eat it. The pork ribs stuck to the bone and were chewy, not something that you want because falling off the bone ribs is the standard. I ordered a family pack, an extra side and an extra half-pound of brisket and an extra half-pound of ribs, so needless to say I spent $70 and had to throw everything away. Gallon of tea, pickles and onions were missing. What is it about Gatesville area that has no one working for them that can cook? Probably payscale. I love good food. Every place I get food from, dine in or carry out here something is always wrong. This is not a Karen exaggeration. I am not rich and 70 bux is hard to part with when you have to discard the entire order. Missing items, cold or undercooked food seems to be the way people here just accept is okay. This is what happens when you leave kids in charge of running your restaurant. We went at 5:00 and there was no management or anyone over the age of 25 in sight. We ordered a LEAN brisket sandwich and french fries. We sat at a table that had dirty dishes left from a previous customer. The person who brought our food just dropped it off and didn't even attempt to bus or clean the table. Someone EVENTUALLY took the dirty dishes away The french fries on top were warm, but the ones underneath were stone cold. We told the waitress about the cold fries and she said she would notify the kitchen. She came back and said their response was "SORRY ABOUT THAT", and she walked away. The LEAN brisket we ordered was FATTY, and the edge of the bun was so dry and hard, it was CRUNCHY. These senior citizens will NEVER be back. read more

First, the menu on the wall gives absolutely no info about the dishes, and the staff taking our orders had no idea about the menu. I asked what came on the chicken sandwich, and the description was in no way accurate. Same with the appetizer sampler - wrong description so we did not get what we thought we ordered. Additionally, the appetizer came a few minutes after the entree, and it was not good (we didn't eat the majority of it). I won't say this is the best 'cue I've ever had, but it is damn good. The pulled pork is tender and delicious with only a little bit of smoke. While the moist brisket is (obviously) juicier than the lean, the lean is still plenty soft and tender. While I'm not a fan of barbecue chicken, it is not too bad and would probably be considered excellent by those who are. Their sausages are also top quality and worth the cost. While no one should ever go to a barbecue joint for sides, theirs are pretty good. It's also nice that there are a variety of sauces styles to choose from. Moist brisket was good. It had an excellent deep smoke ring, but the fat could have been rendered better. Try to smoke it a bit longer so the fat breaks down completely, guys.
