El Vino Crudo - Beetroot ice cream and olive oil cake

If you're a lover of Italian small plates with distinctive flair and/or a curated wine list filled…read morewith exotic grapes and niche finds, you should definitely give El Vino Crudo a try. It's a cozy little restaurant that was perfect for our recent short stay in Old San Juan. I was impressed with the wine list, which featured sparkling, white, orange, rose, and red options by the glass and of course a more extensive list of bottles. I opted for two different sparkling options, a Pineau d'Aunis (rose) from the Loire Valley (strawberry notes) and a Verdeca (white) from Puglia (melon, white flowers). I drink a lot of wine and have never heard of these grapes at all, so they were fun to check out and delicious to boot. We also tried a number of different bites. They were all good, but these were the most memorable: Apio gnocchi - delightfully pillowy and nutty Dulce de papaya and prosciutto - lightly sweet and savory all at once. This might be an even better version of the more popular prosciutto and melon dish. Partamra olive oil cake - so lemony and moist Beet ice cream - this was wild! For sure my first time trying beet ice cream. It was barely sweet and had a very thick, almost custard-like texture. Special shout out to the staff, who were all so nice and chill and knowledgeable.

I had an awesome palate experience. I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. We tried…read morealmost all the entrees

We pretty much always order the same thing: white bean hummus, fried chickpeas with ham, patatas bravas (spicy fried potatoes), garlic shrimp, spinach salad, and fried manchego cheese balls. The grilled churrasco steak and burger are also worth exploring too! Comfortable al fresco seating. Order a sangria and relax!

Podemos regresar.

I've driven past this restaurant several times. I finally got my chance to dine in this past Friday…read morewith my husband. Date night. I'm glad to say I was not let down. My expectations were met. The ambiance was nice and warm. The chef greeted us at our table. They even had musicians going from table to table (like mariachis at a Mexican restaurant) playing classic "música de trios". It was romantic. We ordered a bottle of wine and started off with some octopus It was good but a little mushy. Not the best. However, that was completely forgotten by the callos a la madrileña. Excellent. Among the best I've had outside of Spain. The tomato sauce that came with the complimentary bread was also delicious. Reminded me of the summer I spent in Granada. I had bread with tomato sauce for breakfast almost every day. Our main course was the ribeye. Not very Spanish, but it was excellent. Seasoned to perfection and cooked just right. The ribeye was steakhouse quality. I highly recommend it. To cap of our meal, we ordered the milojas de dulce de leche for dessert. We were very pleased with our dinner and will return. Service was a bit slow but it was a very busy night. They were hustling so no bad feelings there.

The menu here looked pretty much like that of any other traditional Spanish restaurant. That being said, it doesn't matter because the food we had was excellent. The callos a la madrileña were tasty. Dipping the bread in that sauce.... delicious. The octopus was decent but I've had much better at Casa Manolo. In addition to the traditional Spanish menu, they have a grill menu. When you walk in, the first thing you see in your right is the charcoal grill. We had to try the steak. We went with the ribeye for 2. Excellent. Perfectly done. Well worth the price. They bring the steak (every meat from the grill) to the table on a hot plate with a flame underneath so it continues to sizzle. The downside is that we ordered medium rare. It arrived perfectly done, but kept cooking at the table. We had to remove all the meat to avoid it from becoming well done. Just keep that in mind. The other potential issue for some is the amount of smoke the grill causes. Several tables ordered steaks so the air had lots of smoke. No a big deal for me, but it can be for some. The chef/owner is very nice. He would fist pump patrons as they entered the dining area and talk to them, and even take some orders (like chef Manolo at Casa Manolo). When we arrived the dining area was somewhat quiet. As the evening progressed it became a full house. It seemed to me, like many restaurants in these times, they were understaffed. Employees were wearing several hats. This lead to some frustration in getting attention, but it was understandable. They were doing the best they could. I would still return for more steak and callos.

We met Victor and ended up eating at Bogetta. The brunch was amazing, and Victor was the best server ever. He made our experience a complete 100%. The dates stuffed with sausage were wrapped in bacon and provided the perfect sweet and unexpected savory. We loved it! Hubby ordered the lemon pancakes. Amazing!!! The lemon zest was infused into the light and fluffy pancakes, set off by the light and refreshing lemon cream that was on top of the pancake. The edible fresh flowers and strawberries were a delightful and unexpected touch. I had the huveas sol and wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! The avocados were fresh and tender. The vegetable puree was a wonderful explosion of flavor in my mouth when combined with the perfectly cook sunny side up eggs. Everything we ate was a win! I hope to come back before we head back to California. Today is day one, and it has exceeded our expectations thus far.

We made a reservation here on a Saturday night and were seated immediately in their outdoor area. Our waiter was very competent and nice, and most importantly, so fast! We started with a round of cocktails (I recommend a cocktail over their sangria) and they were brought out within 10 minutes. We then ordered a variety of tapas, including the gnocchi a la brava (my personal favorite, we ended up getting an additional order!) and rabbit turnovers (pretty good but not the most flavorful). All the food came out quickly and we had zero issues. Great dinner spot!
