I'm unsure if you can just walk-in as I wanted an appointment as this place is busy a lot of the time. They have a scheduling website to get the service you want. You can choose your barber or you can choose the anyone option. I bring my teenage son here and he has loved every haircut he's gotten here. I highly recommend the experience. Well, I wish I would've looked further at the reviews before getting my haircut here... I got my haircut by Derrick. I figured he owned the shop, so he probably has a good hand on how to do a haircut... Boy, was I mistaken. He doesn't know what to do with a widow's peak... I look like a 7 year old German child. Every time I started to put my input in on what I wanted, he just did what he wanted. He never asked if I wanted product in my hair, he just did it. He put a taper in the back and never asked if I wanted it. He had bad body odor and he appeared to be a functioning alcoholic. The entire time I was getting my cut I kept staring at the cockroaches living near the Pilar hiding under a shelving unit of some sort. Let's hope I don't get a fungal infection like another unhappy customer. And Derrick, I know you're going to respond to this review and say something demeaning, sarcastic, or in some sort of way to put me down and you'll say something like, "why don't you just say it to my face?" like you've said to so many other reviewers, but the fact is that the damage is done and instead of saying it to your face, I feel it's my personal responsibility to tell other people about my experience. This is the only spot in town that I get my haircut at. Quality is amazing which means you will wait if you don't book an appointment. Even if you do, you may still wait. These guys and gals do top quality work and if you don't believe me, go check it out on any given day and notice how busy they are. Look ahead for the owner being passive aggressive towards me instead of apologizing for bad service. Gotten my hair cut here 3 times now. First time was an appointment, and Derek cut my hair. I kinda described what I wanted wrong so it didn't come out right, but he did a pretty good job considering. Second time was a walk in and Peyton cut my hair. Sideburns were completely off from each other, and the sides of my head were completely off from each other. Third time I scheduled with Derek since he did pretty good the first time even though I gave him bad instructions, but he was busy (during my scheduled appointment) so Peyton offered to cut my hair to save time, and I decided to give him a second chance. Sideburns were not blended with the rest of my hair they were just cut straight, and the cut around my ears were a quarter of an inch different from each other. I had to fix it at home both times. Today I had an appointment scheduled and 12:00 with Derek. I get there at 11:50, and Derek was just finishing up his previous cut. He decides to take a walk in at 11:53, but I give him the benefit of the doubt since it could be a just a quick trim. Nope. (Edit: he says it was an appointment but claims if you're ten minutes late your appointment was dropped in his reply to another 1 star review. Either took this guy 23 minutes late or doesn't check his schedule.) Didn't say crap to me about having to wait. I work full time like most people and have to schedule an appointment to fit it into my schedule. I waited for a total of 40 minutes until I walked out. Still no one said anything to me. In general I've seen people waling out with some sweet cuts, and I can't speak on every barber here, but my all around personal experience with this place is bad. I had an appointment for 10 am and showed up at ten till before they opened. Even though I had an appointment (job interview in the afternoon) I was told Derrick would not be in but there walk-in guy would be there in ten minutes and I would be his first customer. This is what Salem needs! In Salem, there are very few and far between places to get a good haircut. Add in the fact that Derek does straight razor face shaves and you have the perfect place. Not only does he do hair cuts and face shaves, but his prices are very good. There is also a nice whiskey bar with quite the variety of beverages. The atmosphere of the shop is very laid back and unique with a pool table, playstation, wifi, and a couple other cool things. This is no way a Barber shop. Salem has no clue what a barber shop is. They try to cater to men, with I think unfiltered self service bar. But really, its just another salon with stylists and no way a barber shop. I waited a full half hour after 3 chairs came open and of course the Chatty Cathies of the salon talking for 15 min, I was finally asked if I was there for a haircut? Really, what else would I be doing there? Making bread?? Again, needed an appointment to even be talked too or acknowledged. A barber shop is there to cut hair as patrons walk in, not to talk for 5 minutes of the perfect style for your head. If you style, your a stylist, if you cut your a barber. I did not see one cut going on. And I wasn't the only one who was ignored, and older gentleman was more ignored than I was. I just wasn't going to waste anymore of my time in a salon. After a thirty minute ignoring session I got up to leave, and that's when I was finally asked if I was there for a cut, and told I needed an appointment. Does anyone know what customer service is? I am a woman and come here to get my undercut shaved every so often. I enjoy coming in here more than a salon for my undercut because they do a great job doing my fade. I get a design every so often and am very pleased with what I've been able to get and with the price. My husband comes here about once a month and gets a haircut, beard trim and straight razor shave. I was in town today passing through on tour with some down time when I happened to be passing by Big Derricks new shop and I stopped to look in a little, noticing the minibar stocked with whiskey, the pool table and the big, bearded guy manning his station. I was considering asking if he did shaves when Big Derrick himself walked out, handed me a card, told me he had just opened a week ago and offered shaves for $17 which included a complimentary glass of whiskey of your choice. I was of course sold. Got a full barbershop experience, great conversation, great shave, left feeling refreshed and totally satisfied. If you are a dude living in the area, make Big Derrick's a regular stop for haircuts as well as treating yourself to the occasional straight razor shave.
