Curt was not rude, but he was cold from the moment I walked in the door right up until the moment I paid him. And even after that, his demeanor only bordered on friendly. I haven't been this disappointed with a haircut for decades. He spent about ten minutes on the cut, removed too much, and didn't ask until it was too late. It felt like he just didn't like me and wanted to get me out of his shop. I hope this is the case, because if so, he'll get what he wants. He has many competitors in this town and I fully intend to choose one of them next time. I will not return, partially due to the hasty cut, but mostly because I sincerely believe he does not want me to return and would rather do without my business.

People are generally loyal to vendors that are trusted: Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, Mechanics -…read moreand Barbers - fall into this category for many folks like me. Sometimes a trusted vendor becomes simply irreplaceable; for me, my trusted vendor in the Barber category is Bridges Barbershop in Salem, Oregon and my barber, Johnny Cortes, in particular. Bridges alone is special: The business feels much more like an insider secret than a Barbery. A standalone bar, well stocked with a tasty selection of adult beverages, is available. The business is clean as a whistle; the staff is very friendly, engaging and very hip; the owner is welcoming and gregariously professional; cool music and downtown views from the 6th floor of the tallest building in Salem help to make your haircut an experience. You won't find the unnecessary kitsch that you'll find at other barber shops in the neighborhood; this place is the real deal! Johnny Cortes is a cut above the rest, pun intended. Somehow, in the 45 minutes afforded him, he is able to make (what's left of) my hair look stylish, clean and plentiful. I'd sit in his chair just to chat with him; he is the most fascinating cat - and he really knows his profession! The straight razor shave is a plus! I wouldn't go anyway else.
