My husband had a botched haircut and was in desperate need of salvation. Hence, with my research through Yelp, I found Barber Punk's in DTLA. It was so easy to schedule an appointment with Riley. Go to her Yelp or homepage and you can book online. Simple and fast. What is really cool about Barber Punk's is that you are not going to a generic storefront salon. You are going to her loft in DTLA and it's such a personal experience! I felt like we were walking to a speakeasy but for haircuts! Parking isn't bad at all. You can find parking on the street if you're lucky and if not, no worries, for there are many parking sites around her area. Her prices are fair and what is hard to do is trying to correct a botched haircut that was a week ago done by someone else. Her talent and skills really help make my husband a happy person again and no more grouchiness. She cleaned up his haircut and evened out the sides of his hair with the top of his hair. I was hoping to have the same 5-star experience as everyone else on yelp and was pretty excited to have my first hair cut and beard trim at Barber Punk. A couple things to note, firstly it's not clear online that the "barbershop" is actually inside the owner's apartment/condo unit. Second, make sure you know there are cats inside the unit and there will be cat hair everywhere. This should be disclosed pretty easily but instead it's nestled in the middle of a disclaimer paragraph. Some positives in my experience was that Riley was super professional and provided a very laid back environment and was easy to talk to. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the haircut and bear trim, especially for the $70 I paid. My beard was uneven everywhere and I had to go home and fix it myself. Next, the stubble trimmer had a pungent odor and wasn't placed in any cleaning solution prior to being used so I can only assume that the trimmer is used on everyone's skin without being disinfected. Furthermore, the mirror and the hand mirror were both dirty so I was not able to get a clear look at my hair until I got home. Overall, many of these things could be forgiven had the price been commensurate to the haircut/experience. For the same price, or even lower, you can get a much better haircut in the downtown area. read more

Been getting my haircut at Barber Punk's pretty consistently for about two years now. Really appreciate how it's in a private studio and it's not like a regular barber shop at all. During this pandemic it's been really nice to be able to get a cut there. Have to take your shoes off at the door and there are cute cats. Not mad about this at all and place is very clean. Let me first say that I haven't had my haircut by a professional since 2005. I always cut my hair, because I don't trust people with my hair. My whole perspective has changed today when I received a nice and clean cut from Riley. She really turned my mop into something my girlfriend and I are very proud of. I don't think I'll be cutting my own hair for a while now. The reservation was easy to book, her loft is really nice and clean, the 2 cats were very friendly, and her wife Pam along with Riley were a pleasure to talk to. The experience had that homely down to Earth vibe, with that old school barber charm, and personal experience like you're being pampered for a specialy occasion. Didnt even get a chance to get a cut. Called the lady @ 2:22pm asked her about her barber times and appt. She mentioned appointments only. Riley gives a haircut that lasts, for what seems, forever. The hair grows back, of course, but the "grow back" is not as noticeable. Maybe that's because she is stringent about detail, form, and practice and it grows back with the parameters, love, and attention she gives it. She gives the best fade I've ever had and she offers whiskey shots, beer, wine, water, an awesome balcony, and the overall comforts of her own home while doing it. read more
