I used to come here regularly. A couple/few times my barber canceled very last minute, which was a major inconvenience, but things happen. THEN, I contracted COVID and was unable to make my appointment. Despite canceling on me for whatever reason, and despite being a regular, they charged me! I'm not arguing that businesses shouldn't have policies to prevent losing money and protect an artist's time and income, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't complain, I didn't make an issue, but what I DID do was never go back AND pull my daughter from the other salon they own. Bad business practices and treating not respecting regular clients' time has consequences... Avoid being treated like a number, plenty of better places right down the street. This was my go too hair salon, that is until my last visit. The hairdresser was rock solid good and I really like the haircut. I tipped her well however the guy behind the counter was rude, snarky, and impatient. I had politely asked if they had change for a $10. bill and his response was " I'm not your Fuking bank!" We stumbled upon Southpaw as we were looking for someone to cut our hair since our regular stylist was getting out of the business. We had seen it as we drove past but never gave it the time of day until now. I read through the bios, settled on Roxanne, and booked my appointment. Wow!! What a treat! The place is small but well laid out. I was greeted warmly upon arrival and quickly introduced to Roxanne as I was her first client of the day. She proceeded to analyze my hair, asking what I wanted and clarifying everything before proceeding. She did a preliminary cut and then proceeded to give me a scalp and neck massage using a lovely scented oil. She then took me to the hair washing area, washed my hair, and placed a steamy towel over my face while providing another neck massage. Ahhhhh.....that out me in my happy place! Once I was back at her station, she completed the cut, dried my hair, and styled it using their Aveda products. I was very pleased with my cut and have returned twice since that initial visit. They are not cheap but I feel they are worth it based on the complete service they provide. read more

My most recent cut from Francesca was perfect. She didn't know, but I decided to trust Southpaw's talent and have the first available stylist prepare my hair for my wedding day 3 days later. The chosen stylist happened to be Francesca, who had never cut my hair before, but she hit the mark after a few words. I had another cut at Southpaw 1 month prior, so my hair wasn't too much longer and I just needed a clean up. I think I honed into my preferred style and Francesca was able to execute. I was surprised at how nice my sides turned out (I only asked for a number 3 on the sides but I think she tapered or styled it) and the length of my hair on top was just how I like it -- long enough to bias towards one side and leave some texture once styled. She even worked out my request to leave some extra on my top left to fall over into my forehead. After all that she recommended a product that worked well for my wavy hair. Overall I wanted a simple cleanup and Southpaw delivered. Francesca worked her magic and maybe we got lucky and landed on a great haircut (to be fair it's a pretty generic hair style). In admonishing another patron for not adhering to their late/no-show policy the owner once responded on google, "99.999% of our salon guests are on time because that is the understood baseline of respect and integrity. It is an equally upheld baseline: for us as service providers to run on time and you as guests to simply arrive on time." However, when they closed their business on 8/21/23, they did not contact me in anyway to let me know that they would not open or honor appointments. Nothing on the website. Nothing on Instagram. No email, text, or call. My time was wasted as I drove to the Silver Lake, parked, waited, and tried to call/message to find out what was going on. It's only some time lost and there are obviously other places to get a haircut, but I find the double-standard ridiculous and worth sharing with others who have been frustrated by this establishment or those looking for a new shop. Owner, please put away the sanctimonious "respect and integrity" speech. p.s. Nothing against the employees/stylists/barbers who are just doing their jobs. read more

I got a haircut from Chris. I was very pleased. Thank you Chris! $55 for a men's cut is on the pricier side, and I've had just as good for less, but wanted to try a new spot. (And because Rudy's had closed). The receptionist though nice was too intense for me. I prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. I found he/she/they to be over the top. (Conversely the receptionists at Rudy's seemed disinterested). It's a small space so the overlapping conversations can be overwhelming, even more so with piercing voices (mine is on the lower register, so I struggle to be heard in crowded places) They also requested a credit card to hold the reservation. In this day and age of CC fraud, I found that to be out of touch, but wanting to play ball with the new place (and because of the intense (for me) receptionist), I went against my instincts and conceded. At the end of the day, I wanted a good haircut and that's what I got. Intense receptionist, credit card thing and price, I can kinda live with that. But it's not enough to immediately win loyalty and become my haircut home (yet). We'll see how the hair grows out. read more

I'd never been to this establishment before, and booked an appointment for 5:45, asked about parking, knowing the area, and was told they had parking in the back. I arrived 5 minutes early. Their lot was full. I spent 15 minutes hunting for street parking. Finally found a spot. Jogged to the establishment. Walked in 15 minutes and 10 seconds late. They charge about $50 for a men's haircut here. Mine was worth $30 I think. I have mid length hair and told the stylist that I wanted to get it reshaped in a way that would enable me to grow it out in a way that would aie me look decent. However he just cut the dead ends and that was about it. At this price point I'd expect a little more out of a haircut. the place is clean and modern and the staff is polite.
