I had one of the worst haircut experiences of my life at the Silverlake location with Chris R. I specifically asked for a mid skin fade, shaved bald and close to the scalp, and instead received a high fade taken far too high into the top, with uneven blending throughout. There was even a visible patch of hair left on the right side. The top was completely inconsistent, including a noticeably longer section in the front that clearly hadn't been cross-checked. The entire cut looked sloppy and careless at best, like a bowl was placed on my head and everything below it was shaved with no blending or refinement. To make matters worse, he nicked my right ear with the blade, and I felt irritation on the left side of my head as well, which made it obvious the haircut was being rushed. The entire appointment felt like an "in and out" situation with very little care or attention to detail. There was no mirror check or opportunity to make adjustments before finishing. I was given a hot towel, brushed off, and that was it... no wash, no proper finishing, no product. He removed the cape and sent me to pay. For someone labeled as a Level 3 "master" barber, the quality was shocking once I got home and really saw the haircut. Because I had a trip the next day, I had to go to another barbershop to fix it, which cost me an additional $50 on top of the $90 service and $20 tip I already paid. Even the barber who corrected it was surprised at how poorly it had been done. To their credit, I did reach out to corporate and they issued a refund, which I appreciate. However, it doesn't change the experience. Between the rushed environment and lack of skill shown here, I would never feel comfortable returning. I strongly recommend being very cautious about who you book with here. Thankfully, I've since found a very skilled barber in Atwater Village who was genuinely shocked after seeing photos of this cut. read more

I was a bit confused, i thought the place was closed because the door was locked. But it turns out that I had to use the other entrance. The place looks very nice on the inside, clean and well lit. I didn't have an appointment but I was able to make one on the spot. I was well received. The quality of my haircut was top notch, I got my hair washed and cut with care and the person was well knowledgeable about how to cut hair as crazy as mine! would come again! read more

Chris R is a master of his craft. During the last year I traveled to dozens of cities overseas and here in the states, having A LOT of haircuts. Chris stands out as one of the most talented barbers I have ever met. I have a receding hairline + hair loss throughout the entire center portion of my head. I have a weird head shape, lots of angles and bumps. Chris gave me the haircut I wanted, without me being able to concisely explain it beyond "please hide my balding". Very unfortunate visit to the spot that I have come to for many years sporadically... But today was absolutely terrible... I asked the receptionist if she had someone who can scissor cut and blend/ fade well... Well this stylist she set me with was too busy talking instead of cutting my hair... Zero fade blend skills and I asked him to stop as he was making the line worse... Then I spoke to the receptionist reminding her what I asked for and that this stylist did not know how to do both... She proceeded to tell me if I am not happy that I can leave... Wow not even a solution...just rude... Will not be returning there!!! I made an appointment last week and got a haircut by Chris. I have been in LA for a year, Im from SF. And it has taken me 1 year to find someone who really understood my hair! Id gotten a haircut by 5 other barbers/salons around LA. They would always cut it in 30-40 minutes, do whatever before they even asked if thats how I meant or wanted. And they would not listen to me when I would tell them about my natural hair being wavy and curly with a lot of volume. 4 out of 5 times other barbers/salons would cut my hair wet and it would dry crooked. Because they didnt know how to cut wavy or curly hair. Or they would not understand my head shape and fade it too high or too low, then the shaved side of my head would end up looking like a sea urchin. So they would put tons of product in my hair to weigh it down, instead of giving a proper haircut. And it would grow out like an untamed bush. But Chris! He really took his time to understand my waves/curls, the way my hair grew, my head shape and worked with my hair and the direction it grows. He made me feel really comfortable by offering a suggestion, asking me how I felt about it and then we'd go from there. And he would check in with me anytime he was going to do something different (change from clipper sizes on my sides, to scissors on the top). I can honestly say that when I was done, I felt like gold! Its been about a week and Ive loved my haircut from the day I walked out and even seeing how its going to grow out. It feels so nice! Even my girlfriend said that this is probably the best haircut Ive had. Im going back to Chris from now on! read more

Walked in this past Saturday -- expressed to my assigned barber that I hadn't had a haircut in almost 8 months because my last barber just wouldn't listen to me. Informed them that I wanted my hair to be cleaned up because the sides and top had become too long, however the backside of my hair was the only part that I did like. I also asked that an electric clipper not be used as I don't care for that short of a cut. Left feeling a little violated as I did not feel listened to at all. The barber was very dedicated in asking me about who I was and where I was from as well as telling me their life story -- however the only part of my hair that I had expressed my liking was completed chopped off with a sharp taper. Since it was also a scissor only haircut there was a lot of unevenness all over. If the barber had been half as dedicated to my haircut as they were to telling me about their life I would probably be a returning customer. I called multiple times over the course of two days, with an assortment of questions. The person at the desk was kind and patient with me every time (I may have called another location by accident as well... anyway, everyone who answered the phone was awesome). I've been to many trendy salons and professional barbers in my time, but today I can say without a doubt that Ramon gave me the best haircut I've ever had. Not only did he nail what I wanted as far as a cut, but the care and detail he put into it made the experience and end result bomb-as-f. I didn't ask for it, but he took the time to clean-up the back of my neck with a razor (something I've never experienced). He also took the time to clean-up the stray hairs around my brows which has never been done for me at any other place. All Of this, while the salon was closing up and about to have a meeting. Until just now, I had no idea that Fellow Barber was an offshoot of the former Rudy's so I am updating my review here. I am very pleased with my haircut performed by Manny. I requested a stylist who was familiar with how to cut and style naturally curly mens hair and Manny did not disappoint. I watched very carefully has he alternated between scissors, various clipper heads, and thinning sheers. The end result is excellent and I will return to him to manage this style. read more

I'm conflicted. On one hand, I have good experiences with the people and I want to like the place. The folks are friendly and welcoming with open conversations. The place is located well in the neighborhood and there's something about it that calls me inside. On the other hand, the stylist today completely ignored what I wanted -- instead they did what they thought I might enjoy. I walked in looking like a 28-year old guy with long hair in a band, looking for a "clean up" to keep the long hair. When all was said and done, I walked out looking like a 40-year old man with short hair living in his mom's basement. Not ideal. It's a nice short haircut. Came back because I enjoyed the first two cuts, but I was displeased with recent haircut. Kind of feel like I was just another cut for the barber. Meaning it felt like he was just trying to get the cut out of the way to move on to the next person. The experience made me feel like i was just a dollar sign. Take the time to show appreciation for the customers walking in. In addition, the barber was conveniently added a tip for himself rather than giving me my change. Although Rudy's could be obnoxiously hipster in ways it at least felt local and fun a good place with creative spirits that we got to know over time. Raquel Fajardo is one of the best barbers I've experienced in Los Angeles. I ended up at Fellow Barber's Silver Lake store after a first experience at the Highland Park store that was completely unacceptable. (I still won't go to the Highland Park store.) The management in New York responded to my experience by offering a free make-good haircut. I was hesitant, but decided to take him up on his offer. An excellent choice as he assigned me to Raquel. To start, Raquel is a delightful person. If you have to spend 30-45 minutes with person, it's nice when they are fun to be around. She's social but professional, another important feature with a barber. Some times too chatty means too slow. Not only was she a great person to talk with, but she gave me the best haircut of my life. It's not often that I'm stunned by a haircut as I have basic short hair. I'm in love with what she did, and the way she did it. I will absolutely be back for a haircut, but I'll stick with the Silver Lake store. read more
