It ended to be the worst experience of my existence. First of all I was coming from Pennsylvania and they were located in Palm Beach Gardens Florida. They never advise me. They also had an office in Jacksonville Florida, which would a shaved 4 1/2 hours off my driving time. I was finally able to get myself together to pay for a trip down there and we drove once I was down there and went to the appointment. I did feel somewhat positive. They did two appointments in one because of my traveling. then after that appointment, I would just have to wait for my approval from the insurance company. There was a zoom call. I was scheduled for to speak to a third-party doctor when I went to try to get on the Zoom call it would not connect me. I was up plenty early to do it because I did not want to miss it, but because I could not get on it because of an error of the the dental office. I got a call back from the dental office and they told me at that time they decided they were not gonna do my surgery because I missed that Zoom call, but it was their error. I asked him to kindly look into it because it was nothing I was doing wrong that I was not able to get in the call. So once I got on with that doctor, he was ready to hang up on me because he seemed like he was mad at me because I was not able to get on that call and he was said he was gonna hang up on me and I begged him not to. I finally got through the call and then a couple weeks later I got an approval from my insurance company. I had a $6350 deductible to pay when I spoke to the First coordinator with Next Step Smiles. They said this is something we can work with even if we can make payments. They told me that even the second coordinator told me this there was several coordinators that changed during this time so you had to end up speaking to somebody new so when it came down to schedule the surgery they told me they would not schedule the surgery until I sent the $6350. Unfortunately, I was in a car accident and I had so much cost of that so I had to delay my surgery and I only had for till October 15 for my pre-authorization. So I decided OK I was past the October 15 authorization. I decided I was going to go to My for 401(k) for a hardship to get the money for the deductible to have my teeth done. I call Next Step Smiles and I get the coordinator very rude to me and said I told you if you didn't get these surgeries done now you were not you were going to have to have more cost. She then told me I would not be able to get my insurance company to pay now because now the new year starting with them and they do not cover that procedure. I told her you are wrong. That's not correct. I hung up with her and I called my insurance company and they agreed with me she was wrong. All I can say at this point if you don't mind your dentist or their staff is rude and non-caring than this is a place to go how's that?!

I was warmly greeted by the staff and let them know my medical records from my other dentist should be there. They were able to check this out and got me back to do some additional tests. Now, Dr. Chandra, yes, we share the same first name, was just as calm and friendly as the area surrounding her. She provided some great recommendations and was so kind. Dr. Chandra made me comfortable by taking her time and she was very professional. Also, she was very encouraging and kind about my next career steps. Honestly if I did not already have a dentist she would be my dentist! If you are looking for a new dentist make Next Step your first and only stop!

Immediately after getting them fixed they both got infected one after the other and I had to go to oral surgeon and get them pulled.. she should of recommended me getting them pulled in the first place as was cheaper. She still billed me for over 1000$ after insurance and would not consider adjusting at all.

I go every six months for my regular cleaning and I think they have only run late (more than 5 minutes) once. All the other times they have been very prompt. The front desk staff and dental hygienists are professional and friendly. Dr. Barker is usually very prompt with his exam and like his staff, very friendly. I've never had a bad experience with the dental hygienists and I have been with three different people. The only gripe I have is they have some strange billing practices related to insurance. It seems that my family either overpays or underpays, it's never right. I drive from Downtown Durham to North Raleigh just because I like this dentist. Here's to clean teeth!
