Nice homey local place in shadow of Waterloo station

Delicious English breakfast in a cool neighborhood spot near Waterloo station in Lambeth. We literally just landed at Heathrow an hour ago, and since its 6am in London, looks like our first meal will be a traditional English breakfast! A passerby said they breakfast here was good, so we walked in :) We were immediately spotted for Americans (ha!) and greeted warmly. Staff were very patient explaining the menu, which was hard for us to understand after 9 hours in the air and 6 hours earlier than our bodies thought -- LOL We ordered the full English and OMG -- one will feed TWO!! 2 eggs, chips, hashbrowns, 4 pork sausages, baked beans, 2 mushrooms 2 broiled tomatoes, 4 pieces of toast and tea. Being Americans, we had never had a Black Pudding, but the one here was the best we had in 2 weeks in the UK. It wants granular or gritty, well spiced and moist. They sourced their black pudding locally from the same farm that makes their sausage links, which were delicious with moist filling studded with fresh herbs. Eggs were perfect, as were the hash browns, broiled mushrooms and broiled tomatoes. We had lovely black currant jam and orange marmalade on our toast. It was a great way to start what would be our first day in London :) 5 stars

I could come to Barbarella's for breakfast every morning! I wish I found this place sooner. The food is good. The price is good. This is a filling breakfast for visitors on the go.

The BIG breakfast. Also comes with toast, a big bottle of orange juice, AND two cappuccinos or tea.

Good value and a classic example of a full English breakfast. They have a few options too so you can get the exact combination of elements that you want. I was surprised that the "coffee" that's included with any order is actually a delicious cappuccino! The giant breakfast is £12.50 and includes a bottle of orange juice and an extra coffee, which we took to go after. Everything was well made and fresh. An awesome diner/cafe style breakfast place with no frills. For best value as a party of two I would recommend getting the big breakfast to share with maybe an extra side of eggs or toast.

The inside is clean and tidy.

EARLY OPENING AND OK FOOD Open very early at 0630, this cafe is spacious, has movable chairs and is clean. It has a good range of breakfasts, jacket potatoes and simple lunches. The coffee is great but the food is only average in quality and the portion sizes are a bit small. The staff are friendly but efficient, no nonsense folks. All in all, a reasonable place to have breakfast.

Customized breakfast, got everything he wanted and nothing he didn't!

Excellent food and service! My boyfriend is a very picky eater and often gets annoyed looks from servers when he customizes his order. Not so here! The waitress was friendly and patient and got him exactly what he wanted. My meal was excellent as well. Highly recommend if you're in the area and looking for a place to have a casual, affordable, delicious meal!

Delicious food. Excellent prices. Friendly service. Satisfying portions. This place is great!

    Breakfast menu

Went here because it was close to where we were staying. The staffs were very friendly and the food portion was HUGE. Three of us ordered two dishes and we couldnt finish... The omelette had ham and bacon which I think contributed to being a bit too salty but still pretty good. The traditional breakfast came with toast but I think they put the butter on the toast after toasting and it made the toast kind of soggy. The chips that came with omelette was so crispy and good! Their hashbrown was also crispy. Everything else on the menu was pretty standard.

I had wild boar and Apple sausages with chips and a free cup of tea. Quite busy with a constant stream of customers and I appreciated the fact that trendy music was NOT playing so it was a nice place to have a conversation. The chips were hand cut and cooked to perfection. The wild boar sausages were filling and great!

    Classic English breakfast... amazing!!!

Was expecting fresh ingredients with ample fresh sandwich selections. Got microwaved roasted red pepper and greasy spoon. Disgusting.

Delicious food for reasonable price, and it's also easy to get there by public transport. Although the tea I had here wasn't exactly good.

He had looked up restaurants that served a full English breakfast, and Kennington Lane Cafe was highly regarded, and it happened to be a few minutes away from our B&B. We loved our breakfast so much that we went back a second day. What I liked about the menu was that is was easy to create exactly what you wanted. You could order a set breakfast (and easily add on extra sides), or you could pick and choose what you wanted, and make the breakfast as small or as large as needed to match your appetite. The breakfast I created had a small steak, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, and bubble and squeak. Delicious! I don't have an itemized bill of exactly what we ordered and the price of each item, but the totals on my credit card bill are £20.89 the first day and £20.50 the second day, and each bill included breakfast and coffee for two. Essentially, you can get a full breakfast for £10 -- a fantastic deal. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England; Poor and hungry?]

Late morning on a Saturday was probably the absolute -worst- time to make a first foray to Federation Coffee, though. With so many stellar caffeination stations to be had in Clerkenwell, I'd have to 1) already be in Brixton, 2) be really craving a fix, and 3) have someone else suggest a visit here to consider giving it another go. --- * I was fortunate enough to arrive at the perfect time that a cute stranger was getting up; he graciously offered me his stool.
