We spent a day in Cinque Terre and found this restaurant on route through the small villages by train. Monterosso al mare. After getting off the train, walk right and keep going through the quent street and other shopping and restaurants. The Barabba is along the water and beach edge. The beach club comes right up to the restaurants dining area. Being we were there in October, it was busy enough. I'm sure it's packed in the summer months and the beach will be noisy and busy. Make a reservation to be sure to enjoy this beautiful spot. I have noticed that the restaurants own website is not very helpful with their menu. The service was OK our server was nice and friendly. But she was busy. It was hard to get her attention. The food was very good and nice size portions. The view is wonderful. I'm sitting on the porch watching the waves under the blue sky's. What else could you ask for

Amazing spot! The other silly reviews about service pshh Good fantastic - service great! The sea view even better & it's got a nice breeze! It's a must - we chose it on a whim! They even have public restrooms with cold tap water!

    Baked whole fish

Baked whole fish was tender and delicious! Pizzas were decent and drinks were good. This place is right on the beach close to the beach clubs. A great lunch spot.

This wonderful seaside restaurant has been in business for over 25 years and has been run and owned by its eccentric owner throughout. You'll recognize him by his unmistakable hair and beard (also the logo for the establishment) and welcoming personality. We dined here 5 times over the course of a week, enjoying the seafood, salad (try the "big salad" an homage to Seinfeld) and wood fired pizzas - all fresh, delicious and very reasonably priced. It's a must-try for lunch in Monterroso!

We ate here last night and we delighted. The waiter could not have been nicer and our terrible Italian did not stop him from giving us great service. He picked our wine, and it was perfect. We had seafood spaghetti and pesto spaghetti, perfecto! Dessert was great. Eat here!

Pizza was so good here !!! Excellent views and friendly staff. We also had coffee and pastries in the morning and they did not disappoint.

The owner was our waiter and he was absolutely charming he managed to find a place for 10 of us which a majority of the time restaurants were not too happy to hear we needed a table for 10 but he did accommodate us with a smile and I really love my pesto pizza and we have several bottles of Prosecco and all had a great time

We came here for our second and last night in Cinque Terre. From first impressions, the restaurant looked pretty empty. We looked at the menu outside, and decided to go in anyways. We later realized we came in right as they opened, so there wouldn't have been anyone else in the restaurant. After ordering, we were given some complimentary bread, which tasted old and stale, to be honest. It was also a bit hard. Finally, our food arrived. I got the gnocchi with pesto sauce, while the rest of my group ordered the seafood spaghetti, and the calzone. Firstly, the gnocchi was pretty good. However, I felt as if within a few bites, it started to get old. Not sure if I was just not used to a large serving of gnocchi, or anything, but I felt as if it would've been better to have something else on the side such as a salad, to cut away from the oils. About the calzone, the portion was fairly large, with a filling of marinara sauce, ham, and artichokes. I tried it, and felt as if the dough was pretty basic, but the filling was incredibly salty. I was also told that the seafood spaghetti was tremendously salty too, making us forget about the cold weather, and downing a few glasses of cold water anyways. While the spaghetti had a extremely strong seafood taste to it, the mussels and clams were pretty insignificant. That being said, the atmosphere of the place was really calming and soothing. People started to come in one by one after we had sat down, so it seemed like a fairly popular restaurant. It was a good experience, but I'm not sure if I would come again

Beautiful setting and superior pizza. The fried seafood with vegetables and the ravioli with a nut sauce are also top notch!

Best seafood we had in Italy! It's the furthest from city center and wasn't as crowed. It had the most locals - that said it all!

The food is 3 stars and is somewhat an Italian version of diner quality but I give it 5 stars for a very nice and generous owner.

This place is literally an oasis!!…read more When visiting Cinque Terre, you have the option of taking a train across all five of the villages. Each village is about 5 minutes apart, which makes for a fun day village hopping! However, there's one commute that I recommend you skip the train and take a hike ;) This is the hike from Corniglia (3rd village) to Vernazza (4th village). You can start from either village, but the pathway is more scenic from Corniglia to Vernazza. Now, why am I saying all this? I say this because Il Gabbiano is located at the middle point between the hike! The hike itself is not that challenging, but depending on the temperature, you will break a sweat! We went in early September and it was still hot! (80F). There's also a very chill cat that lives by the store - he/she might be the owner, so be sure to give the cat a pet as a sign of respect and gratitude. The store has a variety of different fruit, all freshly squeezed! I got the watermelon juice - it was a bit expensive tho, but I guess when you're the only store on a hike, you could charge whatever you want! It's worth it. They have a beautiful outdoor sitting area on top of the hill. Enjoy your drinks while basking in the views. Bonus: along the hike, you'll run into countless olive trees, lime trees, and even wild fig trees! I grabbed one fig off the tree and it was so sweet!
