Not going again. Pizza was so-so. (We had much better one block away at La Barcaccia.) We also had fried shrimp - also ok, but nothing that would draw us back. Half of the wait staff was brusque (greeted by our waiter with only "what do you want?" No one checked for drink refills or dessert. The other half of the staff seemed pleasant enough. We spent a day in Cinque Terre and found this restaurant on route through the small villages by train. Monterosso al mare. After getting off the train, walk right and keep going through the quent street and other shopping and restaurants. The Barabba is along the water and beach edge. The beach club comes right up to the restaurants dining area. Being we were there in October, it was busy enough. I'm sure it's packed in the summer months and the beach will be noisy and busy. Make a reservation to be sure to enjoy this beautiful spot. I have noticed that the restaurants own website is not very helpful with their menu. The service was OK our server was nice and friendly. But she was busy. It was hard to get her attention. The food was very good and nice size portions. The view is wonderful. I'm sitting on the porch watching the waves under the blue sky's. This wonderful seaside restaurant has been in business for over 25 years and has been run and owned by its eccentric owner throughout. You'll recognize him by his unmistakable hair and beard (also the logo for the establishment) and welcoming personality. We dined here 5 times over the course of a week, enjoying the seafood, salad (try the "big salad" an homage to Seinfeld) and wood fired pizzas - all fresh, delicious and very reasonably priced. This place was amazing. We had one of my favorite pizzas of all time. The Barabba had such great cheese, meat and crust. Every bite had tons of flavor. The other reviews about the service seem way off. My wife and I are American and are trying to speak as much Italian as we can but are pretty lousy. They spoke English to us clearly and helped us with our questions. The beers we had from Parma were also very good. Machete was our favorite. The view is great and it blocked from the wind. One of our favorite stops of our first 4 days of Italy. read more

The service of this restaurant was terrible. We got there as soon as it opened with a table of 8 and the waitresses sat us on the back porch but immediately acted disgusted, uninterested, and rude. The three waitresses rushed us out in 30 minutes and gave us bad looks, made us feel incredibly uncomfortable, and did not allow us to order more drinks. We came here for our second and last night in Cinque Terre. From first impressions, the restaurant looked pretty empty. We looked at the menu outside, and decided to go in anyways. We later realized we came in right as they opened, so there wouldn't have been anyone else in the restaurant. After ordering, we were given some complimentary bread, which tasted old and stale, to be honest. It was also a bit hard. Finally, our food arrived. I got the gnocchi with pesto sauce, while the rest of my group ordered the seafood spaghetti, and the calzone. Firstly, the gnocchi was pretty good. However, I felt as if within a few bites, it started to get old. Not sure if I was just not used to a large serving of gnocchi, or anything, but I felt as if it would've been better to have something else on the side such as a salad, to cut away from the oils. About the calzone, the portion was fairly large, with a filling of marinara sauce, ham, and artichokes. I tried it, and felt as if the dough was pretty basic, but the filling was incredibly salty. I was also told that the seafood spaghetti was tremendously salty too, making us forget about the cold weather, and downing a few glasses of cold water anyways. While the spaghetti had a extremely strong seafood taste to it, the mussels and clams were pretty insignificant. That being said, the atmosphere of the place was really calming and soothing. People started to come in one by one after we had sat down, so it seemed like a fairly popular restaurant. It was a good experience, but I'm not sure if I would come again read more

Amazing pasta dishes here!! But horrible service received by one of the male waiters at this restaurant. Food is one thing, but service needs to be great as well and this place had the worst service. Today, my cousins and I went to dine at this restaurant after reading wonderful reviews about the food. The restaurant opened at 6 pm and we got there at about 6:05 pm. Once we were seated, our waiter greeted us and took our orders. Looking around us, we noticed that the restaurant was serving bread baskets, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. A few minutes later, our waiter brought us two baskets of bread but no oil/balsamic vinegar. When we asked the waiter for the oil, he rudely told us to wait one minute and then oddly proceeded to take another table's order. After waiting for some time, we asked this waiter again for oil and he went on to tell us that he was going to bring it out once all the food came. We thought that this was absolutely ridiculous considering that other guests arounds us had bread baskets AND oil, however this waiter was telling us otherwise. We finally asked a waitress who was standing nearby to get us oil for the bread and she brought it to our table right away. 10/10 would recommend for food but if you expect great service, I do not recommend this place. read more

Terrible dining experience. Started with The Waiter chucking the menu on the table as she walked past. All the waiting staff were rude made us feel like we're nothing but a problem. During the meal, The chef started yelling at a staff member which made her cry. He was loud all night yelling at the top of his voice which made it very un-relaxing. The food was average. Located on the water at the beach at Il Gigante, Barabba is an absolutely beautiful place to have dinner. As an American, I eat earlier than Europeans and therefore arrive before the main dinner crowd converges... quindi I've been able to snag a seat right by the beach each time. The beers are nice and cold. (My dinners have not been as satisfying as I'd like -- but I believe this is due to my general ignorance of how the food should be. I've ordered scampi, assuming it would come as we have it in the US, but instead of the butter/oil/garlic sauce it has been served more creamy/cheesy. Also, the shrimp provides a much more prevalent "fishy" taste than we generally go for in the US. This disconnect is on me, not on Barabba!) Each time I've been there a large table behind me has been filled with vacationing Germans who all order the pizzas -- which look and smell wonderful. The staff are friendly. If you're looking for a restaurant that is right by the water but you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for food, this place fills that need well. Interior may not look like anything fancy, but the food is very fresh and the staff is professional. I'd give the place 4 stars normally, but the staff and the owner were so exceptionally friendly, it was hard not to feel wholesome there. Despite it being the low season (February), this is one of the few places that remain open. Walked in at 5pm (€2 cover/person) and was told that dinner service wouldn't start til 6. No prob... we ordered beer; and surprise!... the server brought us peanuts, chips and plateful of appetizers- bread with 3 different spreads, tuna, mushroom and tomato with corn. Apparently we were in the 'appetizers only' room, which was mostly taken up by locals playing cards and some kind of billiards game. When it was time for dinner we moved to the dining area. We shared a first and second course. The fried chicken was a bit salty for my taste but came with a generous serving of french fries. The gnocchi with pesto sauce was delish.
