When visiting the seaside towns of Cinque Terre, there are two types of dishes you must try. The first involves anything with seafood, including shrimp, clams, and fish. The second, involves any dish that comes with pesto dressing. (And yes, they call it dressing because it is not served hot like a sauce.) My clam dish included mussels, scallops, and a beautifully balanced red sauce containing fresh garlic, herbs, and cheese. My wife's pesto dish was mouthwatering, flavorful, elegant to the point of almost being dainty, and paired perfectly with some of the local white wines on the menu. We dined al fresco and loved watching all the people around us. It was very easy to get lost in the moment as our waiter prepared our food at the table, while humming a happy tune. For me, L'Osteria presents the quintessential, seaside Italian dining experience.

Fried Sardines and Calamari

Was on our honeymoon, and had to try the fried sardines with calamari. Truth be told, you won't get any other food in Italy that tastes as fresh as what we had in the pictures. The calamari and sardines just melts in your mouth plus they really seasoned the food tremendously well. Service - 10/10 Ambiance - 10/10

By far our absolute favorite meal in Italy! We were greeted by complimentary glasses of wine and bread. We asked for recommendations for appetizers and got a vegan carrot, pickled beet and Parmesan soufflé that was amazing. Next, we got the whole branzino and walnut butter ravioli. The ravioli was cooked to perfection with a great balance between flavors. The branzino was the best dish we had on our entire trip in Italy. Cooked and flavored to absolute perfection, nothing more to say. For dessert, we got the chocolate mousse and tiramisu, both just as amazing as the rest of the meal. Absolutely recommend this place to anyone.

Came here because of YELP gf reviews. Very GF Friendly and knowledgeable. The Octopus antipasto was served warm, with perfectly cooked octopus, fresh veggies , and superb spices. Compared to dishes in Portugal, Greece, and Gloucester, Mass, USA, this was the BEST EVER!! My wife had the grilled bass which was awesome. I was totally disappointed with the "sardine" entree as it was lacking fish .. and loads of potatoes!

Delicious food and great ambiance! Service was pretty fast compared to other places we have eaten.

Frutti de Mare

We had a wonderful meal here. We walked by a few nights prior and saw a lot of people waiting so didn't try it. However, one night we got lucky and got a table outside right when we walked up. I ordered the Frutti de Mare - I rarely order Seafood but decided to branch out and try the local catch. I am so glad that I did - all of the shellfish was outstanding and the sauce was even better. I can't recommend this restaurant enough.

An unexpected wonderful dinner. This cozy restaurant had some terrific choices. The branzino and gnocchi were both delicious. We totally enjoyed the "local red" wine .

Great food at Monterosso! The fish raviolis made my day!!! So good! The fish are inside the ravioli, the texture is really soft. Very good. The seafood pasta is also great value. The homemade dessert is fantastic! We've never tried anything like this. The chocolate stuffed inside, made it very tasty!

Dinner for 2. - Ambiance (4/5) Charming little osteria, though a bit stuffy in the back with just a ceiling fan. - Service (4/5) Pretty fast though not always super friendly. Varied server to server. - Bread (2/5) Missed the mark for me. White bread seemed to be there for the sake of being there. Seems to be a theme with Italian bread so far. - Anchovies & Herbs, 12€ (3/5) The flavors of the sauce didn't seem to permeate the anchovies. So, this was just average for me. - Trofie Pasta Pesto, 10€ (5/5) Life changing pasta. This local trofie pasta is amazing. I will miss Cinque Terre just for this pasta. Perfectly al dente. - Trenette Pasta w/ Seafood, 13€ (4/5) Really good pasta, though much closer to standard linguini with clams type dish. Felt I could get something comparable in the states. - Prawns, 18€ (4/5) The 4 huge prawns were quite sweet actually and very fresh. The sauce too was quite flavorful, though it was a bit too salty, maybe because the shrimp itself already had some natural saltiness? - Value (5/5) Considering the quality of the fare and the ample portions, this is a slam dunk! - Final Word Really good, comfort, homey cooking with the freshest ingredients. This would typically net a 4 stars for me, but the incredible value of the menu prices pushes this up to a 5.

We went here four times in 3 days. If you need more details than that, it's because the food is so good. We went to other well-reviewed places with more reviews, but the food here was just better. My favorites in order (everything was good, this is just ordered by what I loved the most): - seafood pasta: the flavor of the sauce is incredible! And you get so much seafood in one dish. This was the dish we ordered again on our last night - Trofie pesto: the shape and chewiness of the trofie pasta perfectly complemented the pesto sauce - Fish soup: it's not a fish soup. It's a huge pile of fish, mussels and clams on top of a savory broth. Amazing value and delicious - Octopus appetizer: great flavor and nice sides - Seafood ravioli: nice fish flavor and shrimps on top! Only last for me because I love ravioli less than other pastas! House wine: excellent value. House cat: will stare you down because you smell like the delicious food you've been eating

Amazing walnuts pasta. OMG

Amazing food and wines. Definitely go for the mussels, they are a delight. The owner is super nice, the servers are ok. But overall it was an incredible dining experience. Make a reservation before you go.

Great restaurant in Monterusso. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. I loved the Trenette Pasta con Fruiti di Mare (a house special) and my wife enjoyed the Ravioli with Meat Sauce. The torta for dessert was worth the calories --- lovely atmosphere ... the only drawback was the bread was not as good as the rest of the meal ... we were also visiting off season.

My wife and I…read morestopped by for dinner and she ordered the Tricolore, while I ordered the Nicola--both were fantastic. The Tricolore in particular was phenomenal. It was a more unique pizza on a special focaccia crust with burrata, tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. The burrata melted in our mouths and the crust was a perfect balance between crunchy and chewy. Emy was our server and he explained that he created an original blend of three different kinds of flour to create the dough for the Tricolore crust--we loved that personal touch, and it really came through in how delicious the pizza was! Speaking of Emy, he was such a delight to have as our server. He asked us if we wanted anything to drink as soon as we were situated at our table, and when I asked about one of the beers they have on tap, he explained the backstories and flavor profiles of all of their beers, and even brought me a sample of the one I thought I wanted to try to make sure I liked it before I ordered it. Throughout the dinner, he told us stories about Monterosso, how he runs his restaurant, and the lore behind his different (and original!) pizza combinations and recipes. It's so clear that he is passionate about his food and his business, and it absolutely makes a difference in how enjoyable and delicious our dinner was. At the end of our evening, a couple came in with their dog, and Emy even brought the dog a small dish with some water to drink. Such a thoughtful move! My wife and I were thoroughly impressed. Plus, Emy gets bonus points for being open for dinner on a weeknight during the tourist offseason (we visited in early March)--my wife and I stayed near the "new town" portion of Monterosso, where not a single shop or restaurant seemed to be open past 4pm, but Emy's Way welcomed us in! This has been my first-ever trip to Italy, and Emy's Way provided the exact dining experience I was hoping to have--small business, charismatic owner, cute setting, and absolutely phenomenal food. It was perfection. I cannot wait to return to Monterosso and come to Emy's Way again--next time, I may have to be a daily customer.

Excellent Choice For Dinner…read more.. My wife and I arrived in Monterosso al Mare for the first week of our vacation around Cinque Terre. Where to eat? Our hotel - Villa Steno.....a wonderful place - plotted several recommendations on a map. The first place we tried was Oscar. Our impressions were as follows: Pros: - Most of the seating was on the patio out front which was delightful - We shared the Seafood Salad and Pasta with Seafood. Both were great! The second dish was among the best I've ever tried. - Dark bread accompanying dinner was amazing - A bottle of local Sauvignon Blanc went perfectly with the meal - It seemed the owner or one of the owners served all the customers. She was friendly, efficient and how she did it I'll never know. - Prices were very reasonable for everything we ordered Cons: - Only one: Oscar, like most restaurants in town, opened at 7 PM which was a bit late for us Americans. Both my wife and I heartily suggest trying Oscar.
