I am obsessed with this place! My sister and I were looking for nice dinner close to where we were staying in Riomagiorre, and I'm so glad we stumbled upon this spot. First off, everyone working there was genuinely kind. My sister and I were set on trying the octopus however this was an appetizer item, and we knew we wouldn't be able to finish an appetizer and two entrees. A lot of places sometimes get mad if you order just an appetizer and an entree to share, however they were very understanding and even brought out extra plates for us. We also got the mussel ravioli, which was to die for! Of course we had wine as well, which was also delicious! Love this place and would give 10 stars if I could! read more

This was our favorite restaurant we ate at in riomaggiore. The restaurant is nice inside and waitstaff were friendly and helpful. We tried the gnocchi and the pesto pasta. Both were delicious. My sister and dined here during our recent visit to Cinque Terre, as we didn't have reservations for the evening (a Saturday during peak tourist time) and Il Grottino had space for us. I would have preferred to dine outside but beggars can't be choosers! The interior is actually rather nice, a bit classy cave like for lack of a better description. Guess that makes sense given the name! For drinks I went with a small carafe of white wine for myself, which was the perfect amount. The bread basket included a variety of options--the first round was more fresh/warmer than the second. They don't really have a plant-based option, so I went with the mini gnocchi in tomato sauce with salt cod and toasted almonds. I enjoyed the petit gnocchi and sauce, although all the little pieces of fish were disappointing. It was too fishy tasting for me, and the texture wasn't the most appealing either... guess I'm a bit spoiled in Seattle when it comes to seafood. The portion was one of the smaller portions I was served on the trip, and one of the most expensive ($18). My sister ordered the pesto pasta with potato and green beans. The veg looked a bit overcooked/not as fresh as we'd hoped. Service was fine, no complaints really. This place has potential, I just think there are better options in the area. read more

This is the best meal I had while I stayed in Cinque Terre. Starting with the decor to the actual meal. They had real linens on the table along with the napkins. Service was attentive but not pushy. There were people waiting outside for a table but I didn't feel like they were trying get us out so another customer could come in. The service is a bit on the slow side the food more than makes up for it. The menu is more on the expensive side but I was happy to pay it for a great meal. read more

Was able to walk into this restaurant at 7pm on s Wednesday night. The atmosphere is modern with an old world facade. The place is designed like it was carved out of a cave, although the neighbors appear to be more modern establishments. The tapestries are a mix of white and grey which gives the place a clean l, modern appearance. Service was excellent throughout. Prices are about 20% higher than what you'll see in most if Italy which seems to be about the norm for CT. Food. The food was excellent, easily one of the best restaurants I've been to in Italt let alone CT. The seafood spaghetti was extremely flavorful. I also tried the pesto pasta and the fish with zucchini all dishes were a 10/10. If you have space give the walnut bread a shot. It will also be a repeat for me when I revisit. read more

House white wine 10Euro, was perfect compliment. Loved the music lounge covers of pop songs. 1) No wifi --- bizarre since almost every other restaurant had wifi 2) Terrible service. Our waitress brought us the wrong drink and confused our order. This may be due to her poor English. Obviously we are in Italy so English is not mandatory, I am aware of this, however it seemed like most other restaurants had at least one person who spoke English well. 3) I do NOT recommend the gnocchi in shrimp sauce. The taste was not to my liking (just my opinion) and the gnocchi was not soft which was disappointing. I honestly hate wasting food and am not super picky, but I could barely eat 1/4 of the plate. I did not love this place. Great drinks - we both had an Aperol Spritz - but my gnocchi with shrimp tasted SO fishy, despite he actual shrimp tasting very fresh! This was the worst dining experience we had in Italy. After the one server working that night let us in (despite the owner shaking his head no), we were thankful. After this moment it was all downhill. I honestly thought we were being tricked or filmed for some Italian reality show. Our waitress proceeded to forget about everything we ordered. We reminded her of our wine order multiple times and she never remembered it. She even appeared insulted when we dared remind her for the first time (after 15 minutes of waiting in a half-filled, 12 table establishment). After this, she proceeded to approach our table and ask us to repeat our whole order (she had forgotten). Long story short, we never got the wine. The food was mediocre- my wife said I cook better pasta (we also received our food after other tables who arrived later). In the final bizarre twist, the server remembered our wine and offered it to us after we started eating, to which we refused. Overall, an awful experience that I wish I could take back. I regret that Italy doesn't tip because these malcontents walked away with €4 service charge and they should have gotten nothing. By the way, it wasn't just us- the table next to us was also poorly served/unhappy looking and another table left early because of lack of service read more

We were so pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was here. We started with the stuffed calamari - fantastic. Our entrees we had the seafood spaghetti and the clams with pesto pasta - both were to die for! The chocolate cake for dessert was the perfect way to end the meal. And all of this was paired with a half liter of the red wine, some of the best we've had in the cinque Terre and the least expensive! read more

Hands down the worst meal I have ever had in Italy. The food was inedible and service was horrible. The waitress seemed like she did not want to be there, as we (and other tables around us) had to ask for simple items multiple times. We had a ravioli with meat sauce and a gnocchi with clams. The ravioli was actually cooked well but the meat sauce tasted like a bland sauce from a can with no flavor. The gnocchi was absolute horrible. The gnocchi and clams were over cooked and as a whole, and the dish had absolutely no flavor. It was so bad we decided to stop after a bite and ended up grabbing a slice up the street. This place is the quintessential tourist trap. read more

Recommended by our air bnb host to come here as it is still a family run establishment (and is a sister restaurant la grotto next door)with real home cooked pasta and well done regional dishes (apparently Cinque Terre is so overloaded with tourists during the day many restaurants/cafes use frozen food). Wonderful lunch in Riomaggiore! We originally stopped in to get out of the heat, but we're exceptionally pleased with the lunch. Stuffed mussels were fantastic with a caprese salad to start. Gnocchi with prawns had incredible depth of flavor and the prawns tasted like they had come out of the sea moments before served. My wife had the troffie pasta with pesto and the combination of the chestnut pasta with the fresh basil and garlic gave it a wonderful nuttiness. We topped it off with a panna cotta with berries that was as light as air. A real gem in sleepy Riomaggiore! read more

We had stuffed mussels which were okay, mostly about the stuffing, but our mains were outstanding! Seafood spaghetti and the chestnut flour pasta with their pesto was incredible. Best pesto we've ever tasted. The price was very reasonable as well as some very decent cheap chiantis. Walnut honey cake for dessert was tasty. Nice people watching from the patio.
