    Antipasti de mare.

Where my life was changed forever: BY ANCHOVIES. If you are visiting the Italian coast, forget what you've ever heard/tasted/smelled/sensed about the elusive and oft canned anchovy. These are lies and imposters. The anchovies served to me here at La Lampara were outrageously good. I wanted to scrap the whole rest of the day, hole up in this restaurant and eat plates full of salty, fresh anchovies. A revelation, I tell ya! As for the rest of the lunch? Quite delightful. This is just a few steps from the tunnel in Riomaggiore, and as we'd been trekking around all day were just about ready to collapse -- we found ourselves seated on the patio, wine in hand, anchovies on their way. Highly recommend the "Fruit of the Sea" starter platter (huge) for a group. A nice selection that let's you try a few things. The pizzas were hot, fresh and handmade. Service excellent. And, they made me an anchovy-believer.

Darkness on the edge of town

Very good restaurant on main strip of Riomaggiori. While I would recommend some of the restaurants located next to the harbor for the same food and better atmosphere, this place was a nice choice. The service was fine despite a large crowd on this night. There is an inside and covered outside area to sit. We, of course, selected the outside. The seafood appetizer was probably enough to fill up most people. But we continued to eat and eat and drink. Good restaurant, good location, great town.

    Artichoke, prosciutto, and mushroom pizza!

This restaurant is located right at the entrance of the town side of Riomaggiore and was conveniently located really close to the hostel I was staying in. The layout of the restaurant is open and relaxing. My sister, friend, and I were seated within 5 minutes of asking for a table. We looked around the menu and decided to split 2 items. We ordered the pasta with swordfish and a pizza with prosciutto, mushrooms, and artichokes. The pasta was cooked well and the swordfish was in little pieces scattered throughout the dish. The flavor was full and delicious! The pasta used what tasted like fresh tomato sauce, which only put the pizza over the top and really showed me how great real Italian pizza is. Lastly, we shared a tiramisu for dessert and it was great! I can't compare it to any others since I haven't had too many, but I enjoyed it a lot. Just a side note that I've noticed that many/all restaurants in Italy have cover charges... this one was 2.50 per person. Good food and great location. La Lampara is worth a try!

The Affumicati Misti antipasta of smoked salmon, swordfish and tuna

I'm tempted to give this place a 1-star because we got there at the beginning of the evening and ordered pasta with pesto (which this region is known for) and they didn't have any? REALLY? What the Parma Ham Sandwich is wrong with this place? So, why did I give this place 5-stars? Service: Professional and pleasant. Our waiter did almost spill my glass of house red and then dropped the empty liter bottle from our water on the plate which caused a piercing clash that might have lasting effects on my ear drums. Wine: The House Red is either €9,50 for .375L or €15,50 for .750L. Excellent. Food: Antipasta: We started with a plate of Affumicati Misti at €10 which is three slices each of smoked salmon, tuna and swordfish. All three tasted good and went well with the wine. Main Course: We ordered the Penne Salmone (€10), the Swordfish (Spada) Marinara (€17) and a Pizza Prosciutto (€8). Superb, and the swordfish was my personal favorite of the meal. Dessert: SAVE ROOM FOR THE TIRAMISU!!!!! (€5) The Cafe Americanos (€2) and Latte Macchiatos (€3). Service Charge: Included at €2,50 per person Atmosphere: Simple and classy. Bathrooms were clean and the staff put down towels inside the doorways to keep the water from the rain getting into the interior of the restaurant. This was an all-around win! Except for the pesto... which still kind of ticks me off.

Giving 2 stars for a neutral review. It was a bad experience for me dining here. First off when we sat down there were 4 tables to serve total including us. I have no idea why the waiter didn't keep up with the service. When we sat down we asked if they had Wi-Fi, we were in desperate need of internet communication cause of work e-mails. The waiter replied one moment ill come back with the wifi name and password. At first we though he was busy with something else and forgot about the Wi-Fi. And we even asked the 2nd time, 3rd time and 4th. Even to a different waiter. In the end of our dining experience we never got what we needed. We gave up after asking so many times. When our food came we ordered risotto as our first course, fish as our 2nd course. We waited for about 30 mins for our food. The first course and 2nd course was put on our table at the same time. When we were working on our fish dish and by the time we worked on the risotto it was ice cold. It wasn't enjoyable. We were not the only ones with bad experience as I notice the table next to us asked for their check just moments before our dishes came out and they didn't get that check until we were almost done with our dishes. I saw the look on their faces and seem irritated that had to wait about 20 mins for the waiter to grab their check. At this time 2 extra tables were added. With a total of 6. They weren't that busy. Their staff seems unorganized. But atleast the food was good and it's what kept me from giving a 1 star review. Thanks and have a good day!

Half of my less-than-memorable Pesto Pizza

Rating: 38/100 pts Overpriced, sub-par food. I dropped into La Lampera during my quick but enjoyable stay at Riomaggiore, not because the menu looked good, but because it was off-season, and all the other places I wanted to try in this town were closed. Instead of being a favorite of the locals, this restaurant is largely here to serve the growing number of tourists visiting the Cinque Terre. They serve seafood, pastas, and pizzas in the €10-18 range. I ordered the Pesto Pizza, hoping to get a good taste of what this region is known for. (Pesto, that is.) The pie was very average, and just barely more satisfying than microwaveable pizza. At €13, I was expecting more, but instead was just left regretting not waiting until Naples to eat pizza. Desserts were no improvement: I tried the tiramisu, lemon sorbet, and white tartufo. The sorbet was an overly sweetened lemon slushy in a martini glass. The tiramisu was not delicate or memorable. The tartufo I found to be way too sugary to enjoy all the way through. Service, on the other hand, was exemplary, and ambiance was nice, so at least they've got that going for them. Still, I'd avoid, if possible.

Delicious food, wine, desserts!! We trained into Rio and rest was easy to find. I ordered the calamari pasta--- soooo delicious! pasta is cooked perfectly with large calamari rings in a tasty red sauce. Also tried my friend's seafood spaghetti and it was so simple and came in aluminum foil, but boy was the spaghetti noodles perfect and you could really taste the seafood without it being salty or saucy. Panna Cotta is a must! Melts in your mouth. I would go back just for this!!

We ate at La Lampara a couple times while in Riomaggiore. Very nice place with good service. The spaghetti and lobster gnocchi were very good. Another night we got take away pizza and it was delicious. I would recommend trying this place while in town.

My wife and I don't really enjoy fish, but we even liked the local-caught sea bass: Fresh, flaky, tender, and mild but with a nice flavor (most fish is too bland for me). Regarding the speed of service, it is an *Italian* restaurant (in Italy, obviously), so expect it to go more slowly and enjoy the leisurely pace. Also, the house wine (white and red) is delicious. Highly recommended!

Definitely make a reservation a couple of days ahead because they book up fast, and the place is popular with visitors who swear it's the best in Manarola. That said, the service was rough. The staff felt inattentive, and even when I was ready to pay, it took forever just to get the bill. They never came back to collect the payment, so I had to walk up to the register myself... and still wait for someone to take it. And honestly, they weren't even busy. The food itself was good, though not the best I've had in Manarola. The grilled sardines (five pieces) were tasty with bread. The seafood spaghetti, frutti di mare, was excellent with a solid portion size. The "giant" grilled prawns were flavorful but definitely not giant; you'll still be hungry unless you order something else. The grilled vegetables were a bit soggy and underwhelming. I kind of wish we'd gone for the lobster pasta special. I saw it at other tables and it looked incredible. Overall: good food, great views, but service that needs improvement. Not a bad meal, but not the must-visit some make it out to be.
