Trattoria Billy might have been one of the best meals we had in Cinque Terre. We were staying in Manarola, just a few minutes walking away from the restaurant, so this ended up being our very first food experience in Cinque Terre-- and what a way to start our stay. It honestly felt magical. The views are spectacular, with that elevated perspective overlooking the colorful village of Manarola, the vineyards, and the Ligurian Sea. But as beautiful as the setting is, the food really stood on its own. The menu is mainly seafood, and we decided to go all in with an appetizer made up of lots little plates, each offering a different seafood preparation and flavor. There were so many tings to try, and for two serious foodies like us, it was such a fun and enjoyable way to start the meal. Everything felt fresh, interesting, and beautifully prepared. Service was equally impressive: attentive and genuinely friendly, but also knowledgeable. Our server was able to guide us through the menu, making the experience feel casual and easy going. We had such a great time here. Between the incredible views, the atmosphere , and the genuinely outstanding food, Trattoria Billy gave us the very first taste of Cinque Terre and set the tone for what turned out to be a very special stay. read more

Overall, we had a mixed experience. The servers were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They spoke English, Italian, and Spanish fluently, which made communication very easy and enjoyable. They were definitely the highlight of our visit. The food was good, but not outstanding. The view is beautiful, although after dining at another restaurant in Vernazza, we felt that both the food and the scenery there were even better in Vernazza. Unfortunately, our experience started on a negative note. The person who handled our reservation over the phone made a mistake with our booking. Instead of acknowledging the error, he blamed us, argued with us, and never apologized. After a long, steep climb on a very hot day, this was not the welcoming experience we were hoping for. read more

Favorite meal of the trip so far! We had a table looking out over the water. Ordered an aperol spritz and it was fabulous to drink with the view. We ordered the caprese salad as an app -- prob the best tomatoes I've ever eaten. The umbria fillet melted in our mouths and both our pastas were filling and tasty. The cheesecake with berries was divine too. 100% recommend! read more

Food was alright, the flavors were nothing special . There's many other local restaurants that offer the same thing for a better price.

The service and food were excellent tonight. We started off with tuna tartre, had the squid ink pasta with seafood. This dish was over the top good. Loaded with mussels, clams, prawns and crab. The dish can only be ordered for two but my wife and I could only finish about 2/3's of the dish. Don't be put off by the black pasta. This dish is truly a lifetime treat. Julia was such a wonderful server and steered to her favorites. Her honesty and kindness made for a wonderful evening. read more

Within a short walk from our apt in Manarola. Gorgeous views from all of the little dining areas. Waitstaff was friendly. We had caprese and pasta dishes and every bite was delish! If I lived here I'd be back but as a tourist I am sure grateful I got to dine here. read more

The food is wonderful, authentic and delicioso. Get your reservation. It's a hike up the hill of Manarolo but worth it!

Trattoria del Billy has a beautiful sunset view, even if we didn't get seated in a spot where we could actually enjoy it. Definitely make a reservation a couple of days ahead because they book up fast, and the place is popular with visitors who swear it's the best in Manarola. That said, the service was rough. The staff felt inattentive, and even when I was ready to pay, it took forever just to get the bill. They never came back to collect the payment, so I had to walk up to the register myself... and still wait for someone to take it. And honestly, they weren't even busy. The food itself was good, though not the best I've had in Manarola. The grilled sardines (five pieces) were tasty with bread. The seafood spaghetti, frutti di mare, was excellent with a solid portion size. The "giant" grilled prawns were flavorful but definitely not giant; you'll still be hungry unless you order something else. The grilled vegetables were a bit soggy and underwhelming. I kind of wish we'd gone for the lobster pasta special. I saw it at other tables and it looked incredible. Overall: good food, great views, but service that needs improvement. Not a bad meal, but not the must-visit some make it out to be. read more

While we were staying in Manarola, several people told us we had to eat here and that it was the best food in the village. We stopped in to make a reservation for the following evening. When we arrived for the reservation, the staff seemed very annoyed. Our server was also unfriendly. We ordered the tuna, the prawns, grilled vegetables, and panna cotta for dessert. The grilled vegetables were an incredibly small portion, not dissimilar to what we found in other areas of Italy. The proteins were both fine, but nothing special -- no sauces, accompaniments, etc. Panna cotta was disappointing. We were still hungry but decided to go elsewhere afterwards to fill up, rather than order more here. This was one of the most expensive meals of our Italy trip, and probably in the lower third of food, and bottom tier of service. We had a late reservation, but I assume it's pretty cool to take in the views while it is still light out and/or when sun is setting. read more

This restaurant was quite a hike up but if you're after a good view, the views are worth it. We picked a spot on the upper level so we could admire the beautiful scenery. The food was just so-so. I was honestly expecting much better given some of the reviews I read online. We had the truffle pasta and pasta with clams which were alright. No one believes in leafy greens in this part of the world haha - carrots, potatoes, asparagus are more common. We tried to order a salad and used olive oil and balsamic as dressing but honestly the vegetables used weren't well cleaned and didn't seem fresh. The service was fine overall though a bit slow and not the friendliest. read more

We went here the day we arrived in Manarola. We were a bit late for dinner and were hunting for a nice dinner place with a view. Most of the places were closed or about to get closed but we were lucky to meet a couple of people on our way who recommended this place. It is located high up on the hill so you have to take a bunch of stairs to get here but the view is so worth the effort. Their food is outstanding - especially their Spaghetti and Tiramisu. The servers were friendly and attentive. I plan to go back again next time I am in CT. read more

My favorite meal in Cinque Terre! We made a dinner reservation and were seated at the patio with a gorgeous sunset view of Manarola. We enjoyed everything that we ordered, their seafood all tasted fresh and delicious. The workers were all friendly and it was easy to communicate with them in English. We started off with a glass aperol spritz, a popular Italian wind cocktail which was a great refreshment. For appetizers, we got the tuna tartar and octopus salad. The tuna tartar was the daily special and came with a side of pomegranate, adding a sweet and tart flavor. The octopus salad includes potatoes and tasted excellent as well. As for our main entree, I happily enjoyed the squid ink pasta with seafood, it came with a generous portion of clams, mussels, shrimp, and crab legs (2 portions order). Each bite was delicious and I couldn't stop eating more, the portions were huge and I was stuffed by the end of the meal. In terms of food, service, and ambience, this was the best dining experience during my Italy trip. The seafood was fresh and the view of Manarola and the Mediterranean Sea was fantastic. If you're visiting Cinque Terre, I recommend this restaurant for dinner! read more

Everything was delicious, the server was attentive, the guests nearby were having a party, and the view was spectacular! My wife and I don't really enjoy fish, but we even liked the local-caught sea bass: Fresh, flaky, tender, and mild but with a nice flavor (most fish is too bland for me). Regarding the speed of service, it is an *Italian* restaurant (in Italy, obviously), so expect it to go more slowly and enjoy the leisurely pace. Also, the house wine (white and red) is delicious. Highly recommended! read more

This restaurant is located up above the main town of Manarola, but it is worth the hike to get up there for the views and food. Tagliatelle with clams and salted fish eggs (€19) - Very tasty al dente pasta. Plentiful clams. The salted fish eggs acted as more of a salty seasoning. Stuffed mussels (€17) - I had personally not had this before, but it was pretty good, as it seemed they sort of breaded the mussels inside so that they were "stuffed". This is more of an appetizer than a main course though. Lemon cream with cherries in syrup (€8) - A bit too sweet for my liking, but still not bad at all. The cherry syrup was kind of sugary but the lemon cream was delicious. Note that when we came at 7pm, we were able to get one of the last available tables, but shortly thereafter, anyone else who came either was not able to get a table or had to wait in a line. As mentioned, the restaurant is up on one of the cliffs overlooking the town and water, so there are some great views, depending on which table you get (we got lucky). The staff were very friendly and the service speed was pretty fast. Overall, Trattoria dal Billy is a great choice for an Italian meal in Manarola if you don't mind a bit of a hike up - just try to get there no later than 7pm if you can to avoid any wait times. read more

Amazing restaurant in Manarola. Great views of the water. Don't get too much of a sunset with the angle, but still very pleasant. Server was very polite. Spoke clear English (as did basically everyone there). Great house wine. We ordered the following: White wine mussels Pesto pasta Seafood red pasta Seared catch of the day tuna Everything was great. Pesto pasta could've been better (esp for the region) but all in all would recommend and return. Only waited 20 min for a table without a reservation read more

We showed up without a reservation right around sunset on a Friday night and they sat us within minutes. We had such a beautiful view of the ocean. Eating here was perfect. The aperol spritz was very strong according to my friend. I had the limoncello spritz, which they made for me even though it wasn't on the menu. The bread starter was so light and fluffy. For main, the pesto pasta made me life like I was in the Luca movie. Such a bright, hearty dish. The Billy's Seafood pasta was also amazing. It had these lovely bits of tomato and a good portion of juicy, fresh shrimp. The service here was so good, I highly recommend to anyone visiting Vernazza! read more

One of my all time favorite spots in Manarola! For appetizers, you must order the calamari. It's perfectly tender but with a crispy outside (without a ton of breading). The food was ok. We arrived late because of a train delay and just needed food. Not much was open but Trattoria dal Billy had a table for walk ins. It was pitch black so we couldn't enjoy the view we paid for but the servers were super friendly-- chatting in English and Italian as needed. We got bread with our pasta and ordered a bottle of water. Not bad. Not amazing. About on par for the food we had our whole trip to cinque terre. read more

Very nice restaurant . They had two times for reservations and wanted to see sunset. The owner reserved a table right by edge ao we can see it. A cold front came in and they put plastic down so it was not so cold . Took a bit of the vibe away but we didn't have to wear a coat. We had a mixture of sea food fried and was so good we couldn't eat it all. Other tables ordered the lobster and pasta for two and it was huge portions for pricey amount. Still overall it's worth it and great night and good food . read more

We were walking along the trails in Manarola and thought stopping for lunch at Billy's would give us the best views as the restaurant sits high on the hill of the town. It did not disappoint. We were seated at a terrace side table. As there are several tiers to this restaurant, there are many lovely views. I chose the tagliolini pomodoro. I was trying to find something a little smaller and lighter. Husband chose the fish of the day. Imagine our surprise when they brought a huge tray of gutted, raw, whole fish to us. You pick your fish from the platter. Only way it would have been fresher is if we hooked it on a line ourselves. The experience was rather fun. The grilled fish was excellent. Service was good. Trattoria dal Billy is known for its views. We had a great view of the sea, town, and vineyards of Manarola. Prices are not bad. I ordered taglierini al pomodoro and it was fine, but now I regret not having a baked potato just to see what one would taste like in Italy. I recommend people come here for the view a little more than for the food. My friend noted that she had eaten better shrimp. We made a reservation the night before and we got a table inside at a window, but only one of us could see out the window. I recommend you make a reservation a few days in advance at least. Be sure to confirm your reservation: a couple who claimed to have made a reservation was turned away when their reservation was not found. I hope it wasn't a special occasion for them. read more

Lucky to get a reservation the morning of. Book early if you can. We sat up top, really outside of the restaurant but happy to be there. Earlier booking will get you a table outside, but inside the restaurant with breathtaking views. We started with the tuna tartar and then shared the lobster pasta house special. The starter was refreshing, though a little undressed for my taste. We had high hopes for the house special lobster pasta. The dish was GIGANTIC. The picture does not do it justice as there was a lobster tail and 2 claws under all of that pasta. The lobster itself was delicious. The pasta, homemade, was a little heavy and thick, which overall made the dish feel heavy. I would not order it again on a return. We ordered the cheese to finish. It was not particularly interesting cheese, nor a beautiful presentation. Our mistake. Service was friendly and attentive. Would I go to Billy's again? Yes. But I would book a better table earlier and try some different dishes. read more

Trattoria dal Billy was a solid restaurant that touts beautiful views of Cinque Terra but depends on where you get seated. Arguably one of the most beautiful sunset spots in Cinque Terra is Manarola from Punta Bonfiglio. The way the sunsets highlights the bright beautiful colors of the village is undeniable. Therefore, prior to one of these amazing sunsets we decided to have dinner at one of the best reviewed restaurants in Manarola, Trattoria dal Billy. It is quite a small space that basically has tiers off the side of a cliff. With the limited space, I would recommend calling ahead to make a reservation. (Having a concierge service with a credit card would be preferable!) After having a pretty heavy lunch, we decided we would go a little light ordering three dishes to share: the tagliolini dal billy, stuffed mussels, and tiramisu. Tagliolini dal billy - The restaurant's signature pasta dish that is a tomato based with shellfish. It was the perfect tanginess with a bit of spice from the peppers and shellfish that made for a solid pasta dish. Stuffed Mussels - Mussels filled with a stuffing that was a little bland that pretty much got most of its flavor from the tomato broth it was cooked in. I would probably pass on these. Tiramisu - simple but well executed. the mascarpone cream was well whipped to a fluffy texture that was just slightly sweet with just enough punch of coffee flavors to provide that needed bitterness. The service was pretty attentive. People talk about the nice view from this restaurant but the sun does seem to hit in the direction of the restaurant so it can be distracting for awhile. I would probably instead recommend eating dinner early to catch the sunset at Punta Bonfiglio which is about a ten minute walk. Overall, I would recommend Trattoria dal Billy as a dinner spot in Manarola but no need to book here for the views! read more

The ambience and service were great. Sitting at a table tiered on the edge of the hillside, perched above Manarola, was spectacular. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were delicious. As far as the rest of the meal, it did not live up to our expectations ~ The house white wine was not as good as Trattoria La Scogliera, the fish was not as fresh as Alla Marina . . . So we decided to forgo dessert and hope to find a gelato bar still open. read more

Multiple blogs I read said Trattoria dal Billy was the best restaurant in Cinque Terre. I didn't think it was amazing, but it was good. My husband wasn't as impressed though. We had their selection of seafood starter. €20 per order with a minimum of 2 orders included 12 small plates. Some really unique and delicious combinations and preparations with seafood. Some a bit too salty or fishy for my liking. I had their tagliolini alla Billy for my main. Nothing special, but loved the addition of pine nuts. read more

What an overrated ripoff this place was ! I take it that visitors to Manarola are seduced by the setting ? We ordered the lobster pasta for 3 and there was barely any meat in there at all. Came here for dinner bc we read the food is amazing and the sunset is even more gorgeous. Unfortunately we missed the sunset. But I can only imagine how beautiful it would be with the mountains in the background. To find this place is a mission. We used apple map. Google map. And Waze. And still got lost. So ask around. It will be a lot of steps or a very steep hill up. And a mission. But take the stairs on the right passed the church and keep going. You will find it. Eventually Our servers were very nice. They gave us the recommendations we ordered. We didn't get any bread. Unsure if we had to request it but we didn't get any. They kind of come and go and even when you ask for something. You have to ask again. Hopefully you get it. We didn't ask for bread. We started with the special. Tuna tartar. It was very fresh but on the bland side. Paired w pomegranates and slivers of maybe lettuce and carrot. It was ok. Just. Ok My bf ordered the beef filet which I tried and it was delish. He didn't care for all the peppercorns but the meat was fantastic. Perfectly cooked. My friend and I shared PASTA NERA AI FRUTTI DI MARE. The pasta was great flavors but there was a lot of shells and not a lot of meat. We had a few broken shells in our pasta so that made for quite an unpleasant and crunchy meal. I'd NOT get this again and go with maybe just shrimp pasta. Someone else had it and it looked amazing. We also had vegetables and potatoes on the side which were tasty. For dessert we got tiramisu (I didn't care for this one) and a lemon gelato (amazing). This is a cute hidden place to see the sunset but if you're not coming for the sunset, don't go through the hassle of dining here. read more

I wished I could have loved this place because the restaurant has an amazing view, and it was quite a trek to get to... but the food was just mediocre. Started with the sampler-- this was the best part of the meal. A bunch of little bites to try, some of them being pretty tasty. What really disappointed me was the tuna tartare, the tuna entree, and the pesto pasta. -The tuna tartare was very warm (and I'm pretty sure that was what caused me to have food poisoning the next day) -The tuna entree was overcooked and didn't have much taste to it other than a bit of salt -The pesto pasta was very bland Service was very slow, even for Europe standards, lol. Waited over 40 minutes after we finished the sampler before we got the tuna tartare (probably was just sitting there getting warm and spoiling). Server were very friendly though. read more

The food and service were excellent! The view was also lovely. It is at the top of the town but worth the hike

Our Airbnb host told us that if we had to pick one place to eat in all of Cinque Terre, this was the place to choose. Tucked away up high in Manarola (many stairs to get there!), this restaurant is known for its delicious food and beautiful view. We got there after sunset so weren't able to catch the views. There was a line when we got there. The owner was very busy with phone calls and checking in with the kitchen, but he took the time to give everyone a glass wine and an appetizer while we waited (which honestly wasn't very long for what I was expecting!). The service was great, and they were very understanding when my sister and I wanted to split an entree rather than get two (so glad we did because I wouldn't have been able to finish my own!). We got the Trofie Pesto and were pleased with how it turned out. We also got tiramisu to share, and it honestly was the best tiramisu I have ever had. I'm grateful for the recommendation and would definitely return here in the future! read more
