The service and ambience was definitely a taste of Northern coastal Italy. The food was amazing and I especially enjoyed the ravioli with a type of gravy. The pesto spaghetti and cake for dessert was delicious as well. Mangia mangia. Don't forget to order an Aperoltivi.

If you're looking for a nice outdoor meal with a great view of the water of Vernazza, then this is one of the many options in that area. However, there are many fine choices to choose from. To be honest, we went to the restaurant with the most seats that were in the sun to enjoy the beautiful weather. Food came second on our priority list (for once)! The food was pretty good. They gave us a huge portion of seafood pasta that was almost too much to finish! However, I took away 1 star because the pasta's texture was not great. Parts of the pasta were hard and undercooked. However, the sauce and seafood were delicious. I also got a seafood ravioli dish which I would also recommend! The service was good as well, no complaints here! Location: fantastic! But be prepared to be hot when the sun comes out, and very chilly with the clouds. Granted, we went in late March. Price: €€

We took a private tour to Cinque Terre and our guide (Francesco) recommended this place for lunch. We were offered a fixed menu for €25, which included an appetizer, two types of pasta (served family style) one pesto and one in a tomato seafood sauce with shrimp, then some ice cream as a dessert. Included was also some wine called Luni. The appetizer included fresh anchovies, baby squid, and a bruschetta which was topped with a garlic potato mixture. The servers were very nice and quick. Since we tend to enjoy wine very much the 2 bottles went quick, they happily served us a third at no additional charge. One of the best white wines I have had was this Luni. If you find yourself in Vernazza definetely stop by this place.

Great location and food. The wait staff can speak English and we asked for wine recommendations that paired well with our dinner. We started with caprese salad and salami plate, both I loved. The salami plate with three different cuts of cured meat, all with distinct flavors. The balsamic for the caprese salad is sweet and sour, just perfect for the fresh salad. I ordered the seafood pasta which was delicious. There's is an ample amount of seafood (mussels, clams, shrimp, and squid). The noodles with a nice hint of wine flavor in addition to the herbs, just perfect. The others in my party tried the trofie with pesto, grilled swordfish, and steak with fries. I am impressed how moist the fish was as some places dry them out too much. Of the items we ordered, I would highly suggest the seafood pasta, trofie and grilled swordfish.

When a tourist, in a tourist town, during high season, you can't expect to find the best meal without doing some research. We didn't do any research, we followed our noses and checked out several menus before selecting a table here. The food is competitively priced and tasty. The portions are reasonable and the service is what you might expect. We didn't linger, we placed our order, drank our fizzy beverages, dined, paid, and dashed back to the water. I enjoyed a seafood pasta and my travel buddy selected the gnocchi with zucchini and shrimp. I've forgotten what we spent but it wasn't anything outrageous for the location. As in much of the world it's all about location, location, location.

Stopped by here for a quick light bite to eat after our hike from Monterosso to Vernazza, before our next hike from Vernazza to Corniglia. We knew we didn't want to stuff ourselves since the hike contains so many stairs upwards and we needed to not be weighed down with food. This place was recommended in Rick Steve's book for Italy 2017! We sat outside by the water and enjoyed a quick bite of caprese salad and the ravioli with Scampi sauce. The caprese salad was ok.. we've had better with the fresh Buffala mozzarella. But the presentation was gorgeous. The ravioli with Scampi sauce was good but the Scampi was definitely squishy and overcooked. Overall, good food and great location on the water!

This gem was recommended by our tour guide and we loved it! We got a €25 special that included bread with olive oil, water, a bottle of wine, three different types of pasta, fried seafood platter and cappuccino. There was plenty of food and their seafood is so fresh and really tasty. I would love to go back one day. My favorite was pesto pasta.

Taverna del Capitano is situated right on the piazza facing Vernazza's charming mini-harbor. We had the mixed seafood as an appetizer. The langoustine was in the form of sashimi; I found them fresh and delicious. My trofie with pesto, a specialty of Liguria, was tasty and substantial. He had the grilled fish with potatoes. He enjoyed the fish enormously. We shared a liter of the House white. It was crisp and fruity, the perfect accompaniment. I found it reminiscent of a Sancerre. We found the service par for Italy and shouldn't I think be compared with the American standard of service. A nice meal altogether.

Note, from town ground level, it is a climb - 225 steps to the restaurant. The food was great, we had the spaghetti alla mari and lasagna al ragu, plus a limoncello and a local sweet wine, Sciacchetrà, which reminded us of a port but less sweet. The service was fantastic - our waitress was friendly and checked in with us occasionally which was perfect. We didn't have reservations but they kindly sat us at a table with an amazing view.

I've heard about "earning your meal" by doing a workout but this was a bit extreme. First, just trying to find the bottom of the stairway was a task as every map app we used brought us to a dead end including literally a break in a wall where the tide was rolling in. So we used the Force. The Force worked. At least right up to the point where we found ourselves behind the restaurant supplier who, and I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP, is using a motorized push cart with TANK tracks to bring produce, meat, drinks etc, from the bottom to the restaurant. The good news was it forced us to slow down to catch our breath. The bad news is it forced us to slow down and catch our breath. Reminded me when I'm at the gym and I'm silently cursing my trainer to hurry the F-up and get this session over with. You come to Cinque Terre and you definitely want to combine some great food with some great views. Ristorante La Torre hits both of those at a price. That price was a "I'm lost" and "I'm going to die on this path" hike up winding stairs wondering if the restaurant is ever going to appear. But its worth it. The view of Vernazza and the neighboring towns and of course the glistening Ligurian Sea are just breathtaking. There is inside dining but thankfully the weather permitted us to sit on their multilevel patio. We did opt for some shade because by the time we got up there it was a little bit of sun and my buttery body was melting. I really could have used some wine but I was dehydrated enough so skip. Service was surprisingly attentive, perhaps a nod to understanding the American tourist. Is this a touristy place? For the quality of service and food I want to say no. It has been my experience that a tourist trap sacrifices one or both. Yes I was sweaty and wondering how much will a hospital stay in Italy cost me but this was a great visit. Food: sadly, no gnocchi (which is what I zeroed in on first) related dishes that day. Maybe the ingredients were stuck in the bottom of the hill. I'd normally dock off some love but given I literally witnessed the effort to get supplies I'm not going to complain for a shortage of a dish. Fritto misto : great lightly fried batter on sardines, calamari, shrimp. Spaghetti alla Mari (seafood spaghetti): perfectly cooked pasta with generous amount of shrimp, langostino, calamari in a simple olive oil and garlic sauce. Tagliolino all' Aragostella (taglino with lobster): again perfect al dente pasta in a pomodoro sauce Pasta (forget which style substituted for said absent gnocchi) in pesto. Simple and comforting. All the food was super fresh and tasty Oh and downhill was easy.

11/2/2013 My husband…read moreand I hiked from Monterosso to Vernazza (in Cinque Terre) and after spending some time hanging out by the waterfront, and enjoying some gelato...we ventured to find a restaurant in Vernazza that would serve some good authentic Cinque Terre cuisine! We came across this restaurant -- as it was one of the few that still remain open during the latter part of the afternoon. We entered and sat down for lunch! It was also featured in Rick Steve's Italy 2013 tour book. We ordered: Ravioli with fish (homemade), it came with 3 shrimps, 14€ - I ordered this dish, as the guide book specified that this place makes great homemade ravioli with fish. I thought it was decent and flavorful...especially what was inside the ravioli. The other ingredients (chopped veggies+ seafood) that came w/ the ravioli helped to add some color to the dish. Spaghetti marinara spicy, 10€ - my husband ordered this, and he thought it was pretty tasty. :) In my opinion, I thought the spaghetti was a bit plain, but he likes tomato marinara sauce type pastas and was happy it came out pipin' hot and filled him up. Marinated anchovies, lemon flavor, 10€ - this was our appetizer and Cinque Terre region is suppose to be known for their anchovies! oh - it was delightful to eat, and the lemon made it very refreshing and tarty. :) It definitely wasn't salty, as how typical anchovies are... these were just delicious. You should try this if you venture into this restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Anchovies were fresh (they probably caught them earlier in the day or week). We sat at the very interior of the restaurant (in the cave) or sorts...so there was no wi-fi or cell phone reception. There was a cover charge, but for some reason -- we didn't get any bread to go with our meal? What's wrong with that? Overall, we enjoyed our meal and the items we ordered. Glad everything was fresh and tasty. Was just disappointed that there was no bread to go with our meal, especially since most restaurants include bread + olive oil/vinegar as part of the cover charge.

While easily spotted on the main street in Vernazza, Il Baretto came suggested in a few articles…read moreonline, so we chose this for our first meal in this beautiful seaside town. The patio seating is actually just across the street from their indoor area, and makes for great people watching, even in the late evening when the bulk of the tourists and beach-goers have left town. Naturally, we had to sit outside and there was plenty of room with it 40% occupied or so. As with many places in Vernazza, the menu skews towards fish and shellfish, but there are plenty of options for those who don't like that sort of thing or are allergic. My wife and I started out with a caprese salad and grilled vegetables, respectively, as well as a bottle of a Cinque Terre white wine. My veggies were simple, but good; zucchini, carrot, green pepper and egg plant all got a nice char from the grill and were finished with some olive oil and herbs. The caprese salad came a bit differently than we'd often seen offered, with just mozzarella and tomatos and no basil leaves, but it was still great. The mozzarella had more flavour than some we've had in Italy and the fresh hunks of bright red tomatoes were tasty as well. A great start to the meal. For our mains, my wife ordered the trofie pesto (little handmade noodles) and I got the croxetti genovese ragu (flat, medallion-like noodles). The pesto was fantastic, with a moderated basil punch, balanced well by the olive oil, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. My ragu was hearty and beefy, and I enjoyed the efficiency with which I could eat the large croxetti noodles, not having to twirl, scoop or chase them around my plate. The wine was very easy drinking, not having the tang to it that many French whites and others back home tend to have. If we had wanted to settle in and get our Canada Day drink on here, it would have gone down quite easily. As it was we had to slow down before finishing the bottle before our main courses arrived. Our server was super friendly and spoke great English. Not that there seemed to be many bad places to eat in Vernazza, but it's hard to go wrong at Il Baretto.
