    Pesto pasta
    Ashley R.

This is our 2nd night here in Vernazza and I ordered the pesto pasta because I had a wonderful one last night... here - not so much. It was very bland. And the olive oil and vinegar was served in packets rather than bottles. Just simply lower quality. I was glad I ordered a side of potatoes or I would be starving. Service was great, tho...

Spaghetti with Pesto - amazing flavor!

A great location to grab a sit down meal, sitting right in the piazza near the marina and beach area. Overall very nice experience and people watching location, food was served hot to the table right out of the kitchen upon preparation by the chef. So being in the land known for Pesto, I'd say it's a must order in one of your dishes! Today we tried the spaghetti with pesto, spaghetti with fresh clams and a prosciutto and funghi pizza. All dishes were tasty and fresh, especially the flavor of the pesto sauce tossed with spaghetti, amazing! The clams were plenty and tender served in a bowl of spaghetti, very good. The pizza was to my preference with a very thin, wafer-like crust, having a nice crunchy bottom yet soft and chewy inside the dough. And it wasn't a heavy crust, so not over-filling to eat. However I did order prosciutto and mushrooms, but if I come back, I think I'd like the marguerite cheese pizza to enjoy more cheeses on the crunchy crust with red sauce. And of course we complemented dinner with a Chianti red wine, perfect way to finish our trek from Monterosso to Vernazza! Enjoy Vulnetia!

Copeto 2 euro each, just to use their table or table cloth, whatever. Yea right!

It takes trenmendous amount of energy to write a bad review as i don't like to.complaint much, even when things do not.turn out the way i expect.to,.i tend.to hold a.forgiving.mind. This place.however, makes me almost.obligated to write this review. Not.only foods are undoubtly is i have tried in my 2 weeks in italy and in the five towns. And.i have tried many dissapointing dishes in.many places. What really got me to write this review is, the following, 1) we ordered.3 dishes, each of them.is more dissapointing than another. Even the spaghetti is hard.to.swallow, just salty and nothing else! And they even charge an coperto fee! What is coperto.fee? I asked her the same.question. She replied its for.washing the table cloth that we use. 2 euro for each person! And they charge 4 euro for just sitting at their table. 2) we weren't sure.what is the next train back.to.where.we stay in corgnilia, the waitress said 9:39pm. they knew that we had to leave to.catch the train back.to corgnilia at 9:39 pm and the waitress was dragging her feet to bring us the bill. My wife went to to.bathroom.and.came.back, and.said the waitress.was chatting at the counter. I had to.go there and pay in order . And.she was.knew.she can.charge.whatever.coperto.fees to us seeing that we are tourist.

Wonderfully, terribly, inimitably Italian. This place encapsulates everything good and bad about this country. Inspirational. Frustrating. Confounding. I don't even know where to start. The service is kind of crap. Will not crap exactly, but laden with the kind of surly indifference that would make a visiting American pack their pants in righteous indignation. They don't fall over themselves to serve you. In fact, they don't really seem ti give a crap that you're there, and there to give them money. A guy slouches about in a wifebeater and jean shorts and thongs and a crewcut and takes your order if he feels like it. An (admittedly stunning) blonde minces about in her perfect skin looking like she'd rather be at the local discoteca. And yet these people bring you the most amazing, delectable, seafood-heavy Italian dishes I've tasted on my trip so far. Spaghetti with clams so good I want to roll around naked in it. Margarita pizza spiked with enough roast garlic to kill a Frenchman. Grilled river fish pulled from the stream in the garden of Eden. Go. Laugh at the brusque service as you gorge yourself stupid.

Over cooked octopus in a flavourless sauce

A tourist trap that mysteriously made it to the top of the list with 19 reviews at the time we visited. The dishes are mediocre at best. Order the tomato salad and you will get a bowl of plain tomatoes. We sent back for some oregano and basil and added oil, salt and vinegar. Anchovies are 100% from a can and exceedingly salty, so order a beer or don't order anchovies. The order of anchovies also arrived wrong, ordered with pine nuts and lemon and received capers and peppers. Cheap butter on the plate was a garnish I guess? Finally the octopus pasta came with rubber octopus. So far over cooked it was inedible. When I wanted to send back the dish, the server that previously took the order in English mysteriously only understood Italian. Good news my better half is Italian and explained the issue with the octopus to the server who offered no solution or regret. The beer was good.

Had a little hunger after a hike and ordered a Pizza with Ham and Mushrooms. It came in a thin and crispy dough. And what I liked most not a piece of it was burned. A good pizza like I haven't eaten in a while. And the view on the piazza is a plus.

Order the seafood lasagna! You will not be disappointed!

Went to Cinque Terre as a day-trip with friends and I was really craving some good seafood, so our tour guide recommended this place. I was with a group of 12 people and we were conveniently seated right away. I immediately ordered the seafood lasagna because I thought it was so interesting! And thank God I ordered it because it was the best lasagna I've ever ordered. It looked really small but it fills you up right away!

It's a casual place with nice service, a decent menu, and well-priced considering they could actual gage you for being in this magical touristy place. My gf and I got 2 of the pesto dishes: gnocchi, a small twisted pasta called Trofie -- slightly chewy, and because of the twist, hold a nice amount of pesto in each bite). Both were excellent and nice portions. [10 euros each, 4.5 stars]. I enjoyed the pasta, got a beer, and reveled in all that Vernazza offers: aged, faded, and patchy pastel buildings; small beach, crystal clear and clean water, small boats, and the freshest breeze.

While the restaurant in the tower above provides a good view of the water, from Saracena you can see the water, hillsides and a gorgeous view of the pastel buildings of Vernazza. Plus you don't have to climb any stairs. There was a good crowd when we arrived at dusk, but it was never totally full, which was on par with our experience in Vernazza where the town empties of day tourists come early evening. As with any place that's right on the water in a seaside town, there was plenty of seafood on the menu, but I was feeling like a different local tradition - pesto. They've got a variety of options, and my wife and I chose to try a few of them - she the pesto lasagna, and I ordered the pesto bruschetta as a starter to share, and the traditional trofie al pesto for my main. The bruschetta was composed of four slices of heavily toasted bread piled high with chopped tomatoes, a dusting of herbs and an interesting pesto cream, rather than just the spread of dark green basil sauce that I was expecting. The pieces were big enough and had enough toppings that a knife and fork was the obvious way to go. The tomatoes were good and fresh, and the pesto cream was pleasantly smooth and I enjoyed its more dialed back pesto flavour, compared to what pure pesto would have been like. The thorough, but not burnt, toasting stood up nicely to the tomatoes and pesto. Pesto course #2 for me was a very large serving of a local favourite pasta, trofie. The semi-thick, semi-twisted sticks of pasta were plump and had an enjoyable chew. The pesto flavour was more pronounced than the bruschetta and that of pesto trofie I'd had elsewhere in Vernazza, but despite not being as much of a basil-lover as my wife, I still ate eagerly. We got tiramisu for dessert; the cream was wonderfully airy, but the cake parts could have used a more generous soaking in coffee. All in all, I would definitely suggest that hit this place up at dusk if you're in Vernazza for a few nights, and take in the sunset on the water and tasty local flavours that Baia Saracena has to offer.
