After having spent the day in the Cinque Terre last week, my wife and I were looking for a place to eat before catching the train back to Poggibonsi. We were on a tight-ish schedule, and basically all the restaurants in town start serving food around 7, which was well after we needed to be out of town.
So, having all but given up, we happened upon K&Pris. It's an unassuming little place right by the train station; in fact, you'd probably miss it if you weren't looking. But you need to look because you'll be rewarded with a truly sublime pizza.
Look, words can't do this pizza justice. It's better than Bonci's in Rome. Domenico, the owner, does both Sicilian-style and Roman-style pinsa. And it's all incredible. We had a pie with those extraordinary local anchovies, olives, and some other goodies. It was an utterly transcendent food experience, and I do not use that term lightly.
Also, Domenico is *great*. He's extraordinarily friendly and vivacious. He blasts his music, sings along, and generally just enjoys himself while exercising his craft. I started to get two small Peronis to go with our pizza, and he told us to just get a bigger one because there's more beer and it's a better deal. And then I just ended up getting two large Peronis because--get this--a whole pizza and two large beers was €16. One pizza was enough for my wife and me after a day of walking around, but for €9 a pop, why not just get two?
Next time we're in Italy we're going to make a trip to Riomaggiore just to have this pizza again. And I'll be dreaming about it until then. Forget the views: go for this pizza. read more
