Great anytime, lunch, dinner, or especially game day! Prices are reasonable. they have a rotating beer on tap and excellent daily lunch and dinner specials. Plenty of tvs that cover most major sporting events with an outdoor seating area for smokers. Service is below average unless you sit at the bar. The servers seem to be very lost in what comes with anything on the menu. Menu said it came with x,y and z the food comes to the table with just x. This is a neat little strip mall find of a bar and grill. The menu is huge and varied. I could tell most of the components of my burger were hand made (bacon jam, candied bacon, hand made patty, hash browns) rather than out of a bag or box. Sitting at the bar we watched a lot of food going out of the kitchen and it looked and smelled wonderful. Great service by Brandi. Food was good once the raw burger was fully nuked. Service was slow. Knowledge of full menu was average. No manager or server cared to check on things after fixed meal was given to us. Our server did ask after our plates were gone. If asked if I would return....I am in no hurry....just like their service. Also, If you are a nonsmoker and the weather is nice, they will have doors open to patio and the smell of smoke is very noticeable. Not ideal if you don't care for that smell. read more

When it comes to sports bars, every one I've been to has some kind of gimmick. Some have too many televisions, some are karaoke bars, 50 cent wells, etc. Bar West has a charm to it that I can't explain. The staff is awesome at what they do, Barry (the owner) always greets me with a smile and gives me the hospitality I expect, and the drinks are always cold, inexpensive, and are not shy of stiffing you on their pour. Now, time for what might be (for the most of you) on your minds, "How's the food?" This is a big game changer when it comes to bars, because typically, bar food is bland, boring, and definitely not worth the money (aka Tanner's). Believe it or not, Bar West has good food, damn good! Actually, I'm stunned when I ate here the first time, because I really didn't expect a locally-owned bar to adapt this type of quality. Now, on to the bar aspect of it. This bar has a nice feel to it. It almost reminds me of the 80s sitcom "Cheers". You want to go where everybody knows your name? This is your go to local drinking establishment. There's plenty of TVs, a nice little patio to smoke or enjoy the weather, and overall, very clean and well ran. I'm sure everyone is wondering, "Well, why didn't you give Bar West a perfect score, if it's so great?" I have just a very small beef with a few things, that only someone like me would notice. My first nitpick is if you're a smoker, the patio is just a little too small for my liking. I know it isn't anyone's fault for this, but I figured it would be acknowledged. If it were bigger, I wouldn't feel like I was a caged animal on busy days. Minor issue, but I wouldn't let it stop you from visiting. Another little issue, is the general size of the whole joint. I feel that they should expand the bar! It's a great place. Why not get it a little more square footage? I definitely feel that a bar like this doesn't come around very often, and I do believe this place deserves, no, has the right to get the recognition. Bar West, if you had to go toe to toe with a Tanner's or any other conglomerate chain as such, I'd always go to you and give the other fat cat the fattest part of my ass to kiss. Cheers! read more

If you want a great bar with even better service, look no further, Bar West is is your spot. My girlfriends and I were looking for a low key establishment and we got exactly that. The place is nicely lit and the music is just right...Oh, and let's talk about the service. The bartender (and I'm pretty sure the manager) was so great that when he ran out of our mixer, he ran next store and got us some more... Who does that??? Well James does! He was the nicest guy and mixed killer drinks. AND then there is the waitresses. They were great and very quick with drinks and food. Try the cheese balls... They are money! People.... You need to run, not walk to this place. It's a hidden gem amongst all the big name restaurants in that area. My girls and I LOvE this place and will be driving way out of our way to come back. read more

We have been here lots of time and just love the food! I have the Philly sandwich but made with chicken--its the best. The broccoli has fresh slices of Parmesan on top. Have never had a bad meal and have tried lots of things. The wine list is surprisingly good. My husband wishes that they had more beers on tap but otherwise we love coming. I got the potato skins and they were MOIST and not crispy. They had liquid cheese on them, not good for skins, it just turns them into non crispy pieces of potato. They tasted okay but the texture was just WRONG for potato skins read more

My wife, I and friends have been visiting BW for quite some time because of the good food. But the last few visits have been miserable. For some new reason, the staff believes it is necessary to crank the volume about 18:30 to 19:00. Such that it is impossible to talk with friends. My friends and I think it may be one of the best bar and grills in the KC area. Nothing snooty or pretentious here. I eat out every day for lunch and most times for dinner. I enjoy Bar West because the staff takes the time to get to know you personally. The owner (Jake) is almost always there and open to suggestions including custom ordering a bottle of your favorite alcohol. The entrees are all restaurant quality. My favorite being the blackened tilapia served with two sides and a drink for under 15.00. The green beans have bacon and shallots added. The appetizers include a cheeseburger nachos and hot pretzels just like you get at the ballpark only better. Like another reviewer said the BLT is great and no I do not think I can make that at home. You can get food anywhere in this town but what makes the difference to me is how you are treated. I have never been treated poorly at Bar West. I am always greeted by name when enter no matter who is working .Its the closest thing I have found in Kansas City to Cheers. read more

Went in Thursday night (2-24-2011) with neighbors and family from out of town. My Husband and I have been in a few times because its close to our house, and all of our neighbors like to go in and enjoy the atmosphere. Night started great, good food service wasn't bad. Let me say that none of us after that night will be going back. We went up for dinner and decided to stay and enjoy drinks and catch up. The little girl behind the bar started to work the entire bar, which seem to be okay, until all her friends showed up. She started taking shots with all of them, that were sitting at the bar, and not in moderation. We were a table of six, and all could not help but notice how unprofessional she was. She even had someone fall out of bar stool (intoxicated) helped back up and they all took more shots as soon as she gets back up. My husband even commented on the way home that he had counted she took 9 shots with them in the little less then two hours we were there. After talking with some of my other neighbors, unfortunately none of us from our neighborhood will be returning, and we talk threw out the neighbor hood. read more
