    Chicken Satay burger

I've a bit of a love/hate relationship with Bar Soba, I love the idea of the Asian fusion food but it always falls just a little bit short of being amazing. That's not to say it's not good, every time I've been in I've enjoyed the food, it just all feels a little... homogeneous? We had to ask for the pre-theatre menu, although the contents are similar to their full menu (what would happen if I ordered the same items from the full menu? guessing I'd be charged full price... see what I mean, it's the little things that stop me loving this place more). I had some steamed crystal prawn dumplings to start and they were tasty enough if a little overdone. My main course of chicken satay burger was tasty even though the sauce was a bit on the bland side, and the chilli fries were ok but again just didn't have the amount of flavour I expect. Add in the crammed in tables, and the slightly too loud music and, once again, I left feeling a little bit underwhelmed. Maybe it's me?

    Yummy dumplings!

Have eaten lunch here too many times to count and am always happy with the food, service and cocktails :) The £9.95 for 2 course lunch is great deal for the amount of food you get, although there are a good few starters and mains where a £1 or £2 supplement applies, including my favourite main the Nasi Goreng. This time I tried the dumplings for the first time and was seriously impressed (see pic!) they were full of flavour and a perfect consistency. Yum :) The Basil Chilli Chicken was my choice for main, served with tasty jasmine rice and bursting with vegetables, I really enjoyed my supplement free lunch!

    Pork dumplings. Tasty & authentic.

Been in here for cocktails but never for food and man have I been missing out. Fresh pork dumplings and a ridiculously tasty red curry...one of most authentic I've had in Glasgow! If you like Asian for you will love it here!!

The first time we had tried to get a seat here on a Friday and the place was packed with a long waiting list. I've always been meaning to come back and with the OH getting a new job, we decided to celebrate here. I ordered the Apple and Ginger Mojito, which the server said came in a cheaper size with less alcohol. But I paid for the main one off the cocktail menu because I only wanted one drink. The OH ordered the Red Rice Ale at a strong 7% ABV. After some deliberations we ordered the dumpling platter at £13.50? This was nice and I liked the dipping sauces that were provided. Dipping sauces really do it for me. They give a little more oomph to dumplings. I ordered the Massaman Beef Curry. I enjoyed it although I felt it should have been spicier. The meat was tender and I liked the crumble of nuts throughout the dish. Finally I ended with the Deep fried banana with ice cream. Sweet and delicious, with a lot of nuts - in a good way. Overall we were pleased with the food and would definitely come back. They have an interesting cocktail list and I saw the poster advertising a cocktail masterclass. That looked very good considering it included a 2 course meal as well!

Based solely on my post Yelp visits I couldn't give any less than 5 stars. Myself and 2 other members of Club 30s decided to book a wee 5pm deal pre-karaoke, our offer including 2 courses from the pre-theatre menu and a glass of wine, coming in at £13.95. Two of us opted to share a starter and dessert, giving us the best of both worlds. To begin we had the beef ribs and the flavorful meat just fell off the bone. For main I had the Chicken Sate Roti, served wIth skinny fries. The taste was beautiful and fresh, and the fries just perfect. The one thing that almost put me off was that it was served as a wrap and chips, which took away from the feel of an Asian meal, even if it is labeled "Fusion food". Dessert was Roti again, this time stuffed with banana, caramel and coconut, and WOW! It was a bit tricky to cut, leading to some crossed spoons (that might have been the greed rearing it's head), but was a lovely end to a satisfying meal. Of course, we needed more Dutch courage than just one glass of wine before we embarrassed ourselves at karaoke, so we had to sample one of their sharer cocktails, and at £19 the Muay Thai Punch, served in a giant glass cranium, and chock full of chili was the perfect choice to get us slightly skull f#$*ed. Definitely, definitely do this!

There aren't many (if any) places you can get a mojito for two quid these days and Soba's apple and ginger one is delicious and packed with plenty of fresh mint and lime. You would pay at least a fiver for the same thing elsewhere, so it's well worth visiting Soba from Sunday to Thursday to enjoy gin, mojitos or Jack Daniel's for £2 each. Ordinarily I've had an excellent experience of this place, but tonight we were served dirty glasses and cold food, while being made to feel like second class citizens as the waitress rolled her eyes because we had some Tesco vouchers to put towards our food bill. We were asked no less than four times if we had vouchers, even though I confirmed it at the time of booking and I felt we weren't served as promptly or pleasantly as other customers because of it.

Went for lunch with my boss to cure a hangover .... Cocktails helped for sure Been in a few times for drinks but this was the first time I got food. Was soooo good, little bit too spivey for me personally but I'm a big baby when it comes to spice haha. Told my partner about it already and dragging her butt there with me again as soon as we get a day off together :)

    Summer Garden Cocktail menu!
    Lee S.

Enjoyed soaking up the sunshine in Bar Sobas Summer Garden Bar on Buchanan st! There was a small selection of drinks on offer, however not up to the high standard of the normal Soba cocktails. The staff appeared under pressure as it was really busy, and working with what they had in the outside bar. Sarah N ordered a Mojito, and there was no crushed ice which really is essential for a Mojito. I had Drumstick Caipriosksa. I would say the menu pic was deceiving as again no crushed ice, and to my disappointment no drumstick lolly!! I would head back again, however possibly avoid cocktails and have some wine or beer. They were serving food, which looked great and all the more enjoyable to eat alfresco!

A former favourite of mine, I've noticed a sharp decline in this place over the past year or so. The hotchpotch of Asian cuisine doesnt necessarily try to be 100% authentic, but lately it's seemed somewhat closer to "drown everything in sweet chilli sauce and hope for the best. " The deep fried squid starter is still top drawer though. Drinks wise the cocktail menu is both extensive and delicious, and for a "style" bar it is mercifully free from too many orange-tanned attention seekers. There's loads of beers as well and despite having a feeling of "not as good as it used to be", soba is still always busy-ish and has a relaxed atmosphere preferable to the majority of city centre bars. A word of warning though, the service really isn't great. Last time I actually walked out as I'd been waiting for several minutes at the empty bar while the staff stood just feet away, bickering about who was to blame for a recent customer complaint. Left a taste even more bitter than the lemongrass the chef seems very fond of.

    Paul C.

No complaints about the service or moans about Soba's demise from me. In my view, this place remains one of the best options for a drink or bite to eat in a fairly uninspiring area of town for nightlife. Shoehorned in inconspicuous Mitchell Lane, Soba may look swish and exude a slight yuppyish vibe, but the extensive Asian-tinged menu is far from style over substance. For 9.95 you can get two courses and I highly recommend you choose the excellent Nasi Goreng for your main. It goes without saying this place can be stowed at weekends but during the day it's a fantastic option for lunch.

    Wall art

Asian fusion with an urban feel. Funky staff, but not protencuous, friendly & attentive. I love the food here! Not the best Asian food around, but pretty decent without breaking the bank. There are often lunch deals on too & great sharing platters. They also have tasty cocktails like Apple mojitos & even a mojito ice cream. Quite a dark venue, even during the day, so great for a date if you are having a bad hair or make up day! ;) also it's a nightmare for reception unless seated right at the door so no chance of a 'something bad happened I need to go' phone call! Downstairs is great for groups & has a separate bar!

    Rob K.

I went here recently for the first time on date night. It's kind of like a cross between a stylish nightclub and a restaurant - the music was rotating between really loud and a more decent background volume. The food though (fairly inexpensive) was awesome - chicken katsu curry to die for! And, unlike quite a few places i can think of, you're given the choice of fork or chopsticks!

I…read morewas excited to hear they were opening up in Merchant square, and I actually booked up for Hogmanay 2015/16. This was a really fantastic night! Its a pretty big restaurant, and we were seated outside on the balcony. This was the perfect seat to be part of all the action that was taking place in the middle of the square. There was a live singer, 7 piece band and a DJ till 3am. All indoors which was ideal due to the normal Baltic temps in December! The service throughout the night was amazing. It was a set 3 courses with Prosecco for £40 which was actually the cheapest price within the square. It meant you could keep your table all night and leave jackets etc. This was pre Yelping days so I actually don't have any pics of the food!! (shameful!) I went back last week, and again had a really nice meal, with great service. I made the most of the 5pm deal - 2 courses for £12.95. The portion size was substantial and a really tasty dish. It defo has a different vibe than Mitchell lane, and is more of a restaurant than bar, however I enjoyed it just the same.

Just don't go if you're in a hurry. Unfortunately, the slow service is a similar theme at the new Soba restaurant on Albion Street. We did not have a booking however, so I would recommend to call to reserve a table. After about 20 mins we had still not been approached to take our food/drink order, and some of the staff seemed to be standing around in a daydream while we tried to grab their attention. When we did order, our drinks (two cokes) took another 10 mins to get to the table. On the other hand, the food was speedy and was at our table in about 15 mins. The chicken sate burger was spot on, smothered in sate sauce and sandwiched between a soft brioche bun. The chilli chips coupled with the sweet chilli dipping sauce were a perfect combo. The Katsu Curry unfortunately came with a really tiny amount of sauce to accompany the chicken, which was a bit of a let down. Although slow to start, the food was good and the staff were very friendly and chatty. Plus, we used a 50% off voucher so we grabbed a really good deal for the meal and service. Will be back, but definitely not one to try and squeeze into your lunch hour!

I bloody wish I hadn't as it was a terrible meal. If I was told there was not actually a Korean chef in the kitchen I would not be in the slightest bit surprised. I am no Korean food expert, but I have been to the country and tasted the cuisine first hand so I at least have a bit of an idea and to me this was miles and miles away from being authentic. The place is swankier looking than I expected, but really that's one of the few positives I can think of. The prices are crazily high for the portion size and quality. )8 quid for half an aubergine starter!) The service is erratic. They did not give us enough menus for everyone. They gave us sauce bottles that did not pour any sauce. They brought the same dish twice and tried to serve another of our dishes to another table before the bringing it to us. Dishes tried - Korean pancake - nice but expensive. Saves it from being one star review. Gyosas - decent dumplings. Only other nice thing along with the pancake. Kimichi - is Kimichi, it is what it is. Crispy Korean chicken - expensive bland tasteless deep fried cardboard. More fitting in a low grade chinese takeaway. A complete horror show of a course. Deep fried aubergine - average tasting and a complete rip off. Waiter should have been wearing a highway man mask when serving it. Bibimbap - Korean beef rice bowl. Shocking rip off, about two bits of shredded beef in it and 4 veggies and the rest was rice. Usually I would only comment on my own food, but honestly mine were not actually that bad in comparison to some of my fellow guests. Fatty, chewy meat, tiny portions and bizarre combinations. If I had got a couple of the dishes other people had chosen I may have actually cried in the restaurant. The prices are way way way to high. The quality and portion size is really really had. The service is brusque at best. There are much better Korean restaurants in Glasgow. In my opinion this one is really going to need to up its game if it's going to survive.

My first thought upon walking into Seoul was shock, I was expecting it to be a bit of a rough and…read moreready dive style restaurant - it's not. It's really lovely, a nice sized dining room, good natural light, comfortable seating, pretty asian inspired looking bar, funky lighting. It was cool and I liked it. The service were brisk and to the point. There were a couple of staff members who were a little friendlier, but on the whole the staff didn't really interact with us at all other than to take our order and thank us for coming. Okay so let's talk food - they advertise themselves as Korean but I would say that they are more of an asian fusion place with Sushi, Teriyaki, Udon and Yaki Soba all on the menu alongside the Korean BBQ, Hot Pots and Bibimbap. We decided to order up some appetizers to share, the first thing we noticed was how eye wateringly expensive they were. Let me take you through what we had Kimchi Pancake (£8.60) - easily the best dish of the night by a mile, it was flavourful and crispy and we loved it, but it wasn't even close to being worth almost £9. Chicken Gyoza (£6.90) - 6 pretty nice lightly fried dumplings, they had lots of filling and a nice enough flavour. It was another favourite dish at the table. Crispy Chicken Korea Style (£8.70) - the chicken I didn't hate, it was a good sized portion but it was pretty small pieces and chewy, I ate it but a few at my table didn't do back for a second piece. It reminded me of deep fried shredded chicken from a chinese take away. Deep Fried Aubergine (£8.60) - This was by far and away the dish that annoyed us most cost wise. We were expecting maybe cubes of battered Aubergine....but it was literally half an aubergine which had been deep fried, and some sweet miso sauce squirted across the top for nearly £9. Let's take a second to think about that - Half an Aubergine and a drizzle of sauce for NINE of Queen Elizabeth's British pound sterling. Shockingly over priced. Unfortunately things did not improve with my main and I genuinely could've wept when it arrived. I went for the Teriyaki Duck Breast (£10.60) this arrived as a small portion of overly fatty flavourless duck breast, sliced thinly with a tiny bit of greasy watery sauce and a side salad leaves - no veg, nothing. The rest of my table looked on at me with sympathy as I ate my dry duck and boiled rice which I had to pay £2.50 for. As you can tell I was utterly unimpressed with the value for money and at £25 per person I felt it was obscenely over priced for the food we were served. Especially given that I came home and had to have something to eat because I was still hungry. I am actually still really disappointed by the whole experience this morning as I write this. Sadly this isn't somewhere I would visit again even if other people wanted to go, I feel like I was seriously fleeced for this meal and that is not a feeling I enjoy or wise to repeat.

It looks super sad and there always 2 people eating which I assume are the actual staff members. Every time I build up the motivation to try Asia Ma, I went up straying to Ka Ka Lok as its more "happening". Well for once, we managed to pull through with our decision and enter this empty restaurant. Yes, it was just me and Gian dining in at a Malaysian Chinese restaurant at 930pm. A bit awkward but, we figured maybe cause it's late? Who knows. We were seated by the window by a friendly Malaysian (I assume) auntie, given menus and two baskets of prawn crackers (how generous ey) as we skimmed through the choices of food. Went for the menu with the Chinese words because that's where the good stuff is ey! Hehe Anyway, I chose the dinner for us and we had fried rice, steamed chicken with fungi (takes 20 mins to prepare and no, it's not the fungi you think! It's herbal mushroom!), deep fried homemade tofu, and pot of Chinese tea for 2. So 20 mins of chatting and prawn crackers later, I will quote Gian, "you chose well Sarah". Yes, the food was amazing. SUPER delicious! And huge in terms of portions!! We had extra for lunch the next day! The steamed chicken with black fungi was very herbal, gingery and just plain delightful in terms of light flavours! It complimented the deep fried home made tofu super well because that was seasoned with Malaysian soy sauce, shrimp, spring onions and all kinds of robust flavours! Along with fried rice, it was TWO THUMBS UP FOR ME! Altogether it was 15quid per person, and FYI, I have a lot of left over for lunch haha it's like you're paying for 2 meals! I'm surprised I'm the first to review TBH as Asiama has been here for a while. I have wanted to visit it for ages and I am glad I finally got the chance as the whole experience was really good. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and welcoming. It felt a bit like a Hong Kong cafe with the roasted meats hanging in the kitchen. We ordered a selection of dishes to share between four.... Here goes.... Roast duck, salt and chill chicken, Malaysian beef curry, char Sui Sichuan, authentic peppered chicken, fried rice, boiled rice and even some cheeky chips to help soak up the hangover. The food was all pretty good. The Malaysian curry was superb, spicy and with loads of sauce it was a favourite. The salt and chill chicken was really tasty and it was a great size portion. The Sichuan char Sui was my next favourite and was cooked really well. I also enjoyed the peppered chicken which had loads of peppers and onions as well as chicken. The only dish I was not that keen on was the roasted duck which was just a bit to chewy and fatty. The staff obviously thought we did not have enough food as they then brought out some really tasty and authentic dim sum which they informed us was complimentary. It was a great touch. By the time the free oranges arrived I was stuuuuuuffed! I'm tempted to give it 5, but I'm gonna go with four. Reason being the roasted duck was a Wee bit disappointing and the competition for authentic Chinese restaurants in Glasgow is now red hot. Don't get me wrong this place is excellent and I will definitely be back. Nearly forgot.... All that food and only 15 quid a head, bargain! Check it out soon Yelpers, it deserves more reviews.

The chicken balls were lovely and really crispy so a slight difference from the gluten kind you normally get from a takeaway. We shared a fried rice and chips between us. There was a slightly longer wait for food as it's cooked separately but that didn't bother us. The staff are friendly and my mum was offered a free strawberry liqueur once we had finished our meal. It's a bit of a drive from me but It's worth to to be able to enjoy Chinese food without the pain!!,

Wagamama is a chain the UK for pretty passible Asian food in Europe. So really 4.5 stars for Asian food starved traveller who's been away from amazing Asian food for almost 3 weeks, more like 2.5 for true Asian food rating. To the food, my husband ordered the chicken katsu curry which is a pretty safe order that he has had before. It is a more consistent choice on their menu. I hear they change their menu every now and then. I had their yaki udon. I almost wanted to try their ramen but their chefs and servers couldn't tell me if they used authentic ramen. lol. They said it was brought up from London. Their udon was fine. It wasn't Sanuki udon for the record. I do like to visit Wagamama when I am in the UK for my Asian fix as they are a safe bet so I will be there again.

Don't order the juices! They are watered down. The waitress tried to say that they are not or that it is due to the carrots here in Scotland.. what? I've had the the carrots and Scotland and they are not 50%wafer. And also don't order pad Thai unless you want bland.. Now, I ordered the ramen bowls and they were really good. Also the chili margarita was tasty. The service was good but don't try to justify watered down juices. Sorry we make our own juice and it is obvious. Anyhow give your own feedback if you check it out. Pretty trendy Asian fusion place. So I'll have to check back.

We were out for a stag do so perhaps not giving the menu our full attention but even then the idea that we weren't ready to order within 10 minutes of sitting down didn't seem to go down to well. Feeling under pressure I plumped for the Haggis rolls to start. A bit of a disappointment to be honest as it was merely haggis wrapped in spring roll pastry, I was hoping for more of a traditional pancake roll with Haggis providing an alternative to the prawns and char siu laced with vegetables and beansprouts, They were nice but could have been so much more. For main I went for char siu with beansprouts and (mystery) gravy. My cooking skills have come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months but char siu is still something I've truly master so I like ordering it when I'm out. If I could sum up my main I would say it was like getting a takeaway on a plate. It was nice and the plain chow mein I had along with it was perhaps the best thing on the table in front of me but overall it was lacking a bit of life all over. Nice, but won't be rushing to go back.

It is fairly new and we order our Takeaway from here weekly. The only wee gripe is that delivery takes ages so we normally collect ourselves - but that itself is testament to how busy/popular it is here. We normally order the Salt and Chilli chicken which (after vigorous and time consuming research, purely scientific obv) is THE best in EK. As are their Salt and Chilli chips. Their curry sauce is excellent, not too mild but with a nice kick. We've also tried the Beef Chow Mein which is a huge portion and has often done me 2 dinners - they certainly don't scrimp on the sizes in here. I've sat in before for their set menu, the place is a sea of black and red and very modern looking. The staff are helpful without being overbearing. A fantastic wee Chinese which is a must try if you stay in East Kilbride or nearby!

If you have eaten PHO in more authentic places like Little Vietnam in Los Angeles, San Francisco,…read moreToronto, and Orange County (I have)...then don't eat here. The Pho is not authentic. It is picture pretty but that is about it. This place was recommended by our friend's 25 year old kid (whose palette is still young). The decor is beautiful and the inside is cozy and intimate. I ordered the seafood pho. It had no depth to it. It was missing that umami flavor. The broth was watery. It was missing the mint and the Thai basil. I ordered it #2 spicy and it was not spicy at all. We asked for some Fish sauce and they had no idea what we were talking about (which should have been a red flag) so then we asked for Hoisin sauce and they didn't have that either, they offered us soy sauce and we accepted that. Anything to bring some flavor to our pho. They ran out of chicken and (the night was still young) so my friend had to order the beef pho. He said his was okay- this was his first time having pho so he had nothing to compare it to. The service was mediocre. We had to ask them to bring us utensils. We had to ask them again to bring us napkins. It took them forever to ask us what we wanted to drink after they sat us down. To be honest, it was overpriced for the quality of food that was served. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic pho in Glasgow. This is a very instagram/influencer spot for pretty food pics/decor and that's about it. I would not go back.

(people are strange). Yet, I found it delicious. I ate downstairs on all of my trips and enjoyed that for lunch. Will def visit this for lunch again on my next visit.

We were both hungry and our eyes fell upon Shilla, a Korean restaurant based in Finnieston. Checked out the menu and seen there was some seats available. We had ended up at that busy period but we managed to get seats at the window. We had asked for the mezzanine seats, which looked available, but they said no. Maybe it was reserved, we didn't get an answer. I ordered the teriyaki chicken dish but I didn't really get to order my drink as Linda was ordering a Sapporo beer the waitress then left quickly so guessed I was getting one too. Ah well Sapporo it is. The dish was lovely but I found the chicken to be quite fatty, which is really rare to come across. I found it a bit chewy but the sauce was lovely, served with a side salad and fluffy rice. We were also given a mix of pickles with soy sauce before our main meals, these were complimentary. They were ok, some a bit weird tasting and texture wise a bit strange to me. Overall it was a good experience as they left us alone all night after we were served our food. Linda and I wanted somewhere we could have a good catch up and this was ideal. It was a bit uncomfortable at the end when we paying the bill and the waitress was waiting beside us as we were counting out our money. I would maybe head back and try something else as it was ok but the last visit didn't exactly blow my socks off.
