    Chicken and Shrimp Chahan
    Jonna N.

During the time that I lived in Scotland for the half of last year, Wagamama became my home for Asian food. I usually don't think that Asian chain restaurants can capture the flavors that my mom's home cooked Asian food, but Wagamama did. Somehow they did and I went to this place many times. For appetizers, I always go with the chili squid. I love seafood. Most of the time, I get squid that's cooked to where when you bite into it, it breaks apart and isn't rubbery. The squid is covered a good amount of spices and not extremely deep fried so it's healthier. My usual entree was always the cha han with chicken and shrimp. (I love when you can get two meats with fried rice and you aren't charged extra.) This dish is definitely worth the price because it also comes with a small miso soup and a small dish of pickled veggies. I've learned that miso soup is awesome when it's chilly outside. Time for dessert. I'm not the biggest fan of coconut, but if you ever get the chance, order the coconut ice cream. You will not be disappointed. It even has little crunchy flakes that give the ice cream texture. I guess my only complaint is that if you are a party of one, they try to stick you at a seat where you are facing a wall. With that being said, I always get my money's worth here.

Fast food? Fast service? I used to love wagamama but now there is a lot of competition out there and it has just seemed to have gone down the hill a little bit. So normally I'm straight into the Katsu Curry which you cannot fault but last night I tried something a little different, I went for the Teriyaki Beef. It was nice but just nice. There is a great selection of food and the service is normally really quick and friendly! It's set out with long benches and chopsticks at the ready. A great fall back but not for something a little different.

Fantastic food and great customer service. I popped in for some food after shopping - its healthy, fast and delicious. And I felt completely comfortable eating there alone, the staff were just lovely. Even when I sent my dumplings back! I'm only just learning to be brave and complain when things aren't right. These were just a bit sub-par .. chewy and overcooked, like they'd sat around for a whole. But when I mentioned it, if they were whisked away and replaced, with the manager coming over to apologise and say they'd take them off the bill. And they did! And the new ones tasted every bit as good as I expect Wagamama dumplings to taste. Dee-licious. Ok, it's not 'real' Japanese food, but it's really good, reliable and a great choice.

I love trying new eateries as much as the next person, but occasionally I crave something familiar, non-risky, warm and comforting that doesn't break the bank. Wagamama just along the road from the main Buchanan Street drag is one such place and a handy informal pitstop. I know the score: that I'll be getting a little close for comfort with strangers on the communal tables, that I can stow my bag/coat/shopping on the clever little shelves under my table, that my meal will come as soon as it is cooked and won't be sitting around being kept warm if my dining partners meal isn't ready. We're talking vegetarian friendly/gluten-free friendly menu and very tasty fastish food. Everyone has a favourite dish at Wagamama and mine is the vegetable yasai katsu curry - sweet potato, aubergine and butternut squash are deep-fried in Japanese panko breadcrumbs and served with sticky fragrant rice and a curry sauce. Topped with pickles, this dish is as mouth watering as it gets. There's a chicken version of this for the meat-eaters. On a rare day that I can fit in a dessert it has to be the white chocolate ginger cheesecake with a hint of chili. Yum! Tip: A cup of hot green tea is complimentary, it's good for your health, and doesn't taste too bad either!

When I first heard of Wagas I thought that its not for me, as I am a quite a fussy eater. I thought all of the dishes (including desserts) would somehow involve fish, and may I just say, i bloody hate fish. However when my friends actually convinced me to go there for lunch - I had a really good time. I mean, the menu was slightly confusing to begin with "What the hell is Ramen? Is that some sort of fish?" but once i read through it a couple of times i finally got it. Long story short, I fell in love with Wagas and I go there quite often now because their food tastes amazing, and it is delivered to you within literally 10 minutes. The customer service is really good - people that work there are very friendly. However if you are looking for a quiet, private little table this is not a place for you.

Everytime I'm here I order the same thing: Teriyaki Soba Beef which is grilled teriyaki beef on a bed of teppan fried soba noodles with curry oil, mangetout, chillies, red and spring onions, beansprouts and bok choi with teriyaki sauce, coriander and sesame seeds. Its amazing! The beef is so tender, the noodles have a great taste to them with just the right amount of chilli. Firm favourite. I also order Ebi Gyoza on the side which is deep-fried prawn and vegetable dumplings served with a spicy citrus ponzu dipping sauce, compliments the dishes well!

We decided to head to the cinema for a movie double bill and between films, we got pretty hungry! I'd heard a lot about their tofu chilli salad at Wagamama and was eager to give it a try! Wagamama was pretty busy, but we got a seat straight away and ordered some of the free green tea. I do love that you can basically have as much as you want for free as it's pretty tasty! It's also really good to have whilst you wait for your food to arrive. We went for the yasai ramen bowl as well as the tofu chilli salad. We also ordered a side of edamame beans to share (does anyone else always order a side to share between two?) and one of the healthy juices. First of all, the edamame beans. I LOVE edamame and these were exceptional. Cooked perfectly and seasoned with garlic and chilli. They were basically a little bowl of perfection and a good alternative to sharing a bowl of fries at a restaurant. The seasoning really made these stand out. It wasn't too spicy and there was just the right amount of garlic. I went for the fresh tropical juice too, which consists of mango, apple and orange. It was refreshing, delicious and just made us want to try the rest. The 'clean green' also caught our attention. Next time! Before long, it was time for the main courses! The yasai ramen was a pretty huge portion. Consisting of Japanese omelette, crispy fried tofu and mushrooms in a vegetable noodle soup, there was quite a lot of different flavours present here. The tofu was my favourite part. Lightly fried and dusted with seasoning, we ended up eating it all first before starting with the rest of the dish. This dish was just a really good, hearty meal that is perfect for keeping you refuelled and full of energy. It was a big portion, but didn't feel heavy and we finished every last drop. For me, the star of the show was the tofu chilli salad. This is one of the best things we've ever eaten in Wagamama. This consisted of stir-fried tofu, aubergines, red pepper, asparagus, mangetout, tender-stem broccoli, red onion and baby gem lettuce in a sweet chilli dressing with chillies, spring onions and cashew nuts. Simply put, this was brilliant! The tofu was perfectly cooked and all of the flavours just went perfectly together. The sweet chilli dressing, red onion and asparagus stood out and the tofu was there to really soak up all of the different flavours present on the plate. It's one of the best salads I've had in Glasgow. You should go get it. I've never been the biggest fans of chains. A lot of the time, the actual food part of the experience can feel like a bit of an afterthought, but that wasn't the case here. I had a great time at Wagamama and will definitely be back soon.

We've been here a few times now and one thing remains the same. The service and standard of food has always been really great, and we've come to expect nothing less. We've never had an issue getting a seat, even on a busy friday night, and this night was no different. We were going to see To Kill A Mockingbird at the Theatre Royal later that night and wanted something hearty and on the quicker side, so we popped in here and as always, were glad we did. My boyfriend usually opts for something more on the spicy side, but tonight, we both went for the Chicken and Prawn Cha Han which was fried rice with chicken, prawns and a selection of vegetables. It really is a great deal as well, because it comes with picked vegetables on the side as well as miso soup, which we both love!! Our food arrived without much hesitation and it was piping hot and the veg fresh. So tasty, I can't wait to go back! The waitress was prompt and friendly, and we were able to get our bill once done, pay and leave without too much hassle. I quit enjoy that the seating here is almost like family seating. Long tables with bench seating, four seats to a table, with cutlery and sauces separating the next four seat section. A family from America sat down next to us and were eyeing our meals, so curious and seemingly out of their element. As always, a great experience, I can't wait to go back!

My favourite place to go to eat! We travel from Dumfries to Glasgow just to go to Wagamama. The staff are lovely, the food is perfect, it feels calm with good vibes. The ramen is delicious, definitely recommend coming here!

The staff we interacted with were all very friendly and helpful. But unfortunately, the food was the real weak spot. The hibachi chef used enough salt to cause an immediate coronary - a layer of salt on the grill before adding the meat, before cooking the fried rice, and another layer of salt before the bean sprouts and noodles - you get the idea. The couple next to us agreed that everything was terribly salty, but eat there regularly, and said this was different than usual. So maybe it was the individual chef. At the same time, my Dragon Roll also tasted salty, so who knows. If I were here, I might give it another try, but not likely.

Fortunately it was through an itison deal and it brought the cost down my a massive amount. It was only £19 for 2 people and 2 courses and you still get the pleasure of the Sapporo "experience". Sapporo is a show chef bar, so we had Superman, I kid you not, as our chef. He had a Superman belt and it said on his name badge so it must be true. We sat along with a couple who I believe were from Mauritius, mmm maybe it was Malaysia. Anyhoo, we ordered our drinks and food, which we ordered from an itison menu that Sapporo had created. They must be doing many of these deals, I would double check they are still available as it was it worth it. The sushi was good and the main course was amazing. Superman had many tricks up his sleeve, jumping out your skin most of the time to be honest. They suggest that you tuck in while he's cooking, as it'll just get cold otherwise. Not only Superman but other chef's do make many noises and beware you will also sound like them after a while. Hehe! I swear one of them had a laugh like a looney toon character from Who Framed Rodger Rabbit. I don't want to give away the show as I'm glad I didn't know as I really enjoyed it. It was cheesy but a good laugh, probably even better in a larger group. I need to find out what he used to cook the stir-fry veg as I've never tastied anything like it. The Teriyaki sauce was also delicious including their fried rice. It's an experience, so I say chillax and just enjoy.

When you arrive, you are met with what I can only describe as a manky curtain - something that would normally really annoy me, but I totally forgive them.. Once you get past that you're presented with a surprisingly large, and very sleekly decked out, restaurant. There's all sorts of deals on here for bento boxes and lunch deals. But the full menu is also very reasonably priced. I had the ramen Chilli chicken. And oh my God! It was easily the best I've ever had. Very, very spicy. But sweet. And full of peppers and perfectly cooked chicken. My friend had the chicken katsu curry - and again, said it was the best he'd had. The staff were super cheery and really helpful. For 2 mains and 2 cokes the bill came to less than £24. I sinceriously can't wait to go back for more.

This was one of the first restaurants I dined at in Glasgow with my now husband after our fateful meeting in Japan, so it is very special to the both of us. I'd hopped on a plane to the other side of the world to visit a man I'd known for 14 days, fell in love and moved here. We've returned here loads of times since then, but I haven't been to Nanakusa for nearly a year. In my endless quest of eating out as many places in Glasgow as possible, sometimes the real gems get left behind for the new and exciting places. I was so glad to return last night for a UYE and see that nothing has changed since I first fell in love with Nanakusa (I was already in love with my husband by the time we ate here!) Now, Nanakusa. It does Japanese food, and it does it really well (see the aforementioned reference to meeting my husband in Japan!). I really love sashimi and there aren't enough places in Glasgow that I can eat it, so I always get a portion when I eat here. I also love takoyaki (octopus balls) and can't resist them here. I've tried them elsewhere but Nanakusa's are the best. The service is always friendly, smiling and helpful. It was a little slow last night but there were only two people working the whole restaurant, but none of us were in a particular hurry. I had a small glass of rosé with my meal and they also have a selection of saké and plum wines, as well as Japanese beers for that really authentic taste. The food arrived quickly and as soon as it was ready. Two people had ordered bento boxes and these arrived about 5 minutes after everything else. The waiter seemed really conscious of this and kept coming over which was a nice touch. I loved all my dishes, the takoyaki and salmon sashimi and I also had the chicken teriyaki. Sides like rice and noodles are optional which is great if you're all about the protein. Downsides? As I said, service was a bit slow. I'm also not a big fan of the lighting (the wall panels change colour) as it makes it hard to take nice food photos! Haha! Bench seating can be difficult to navigate getting in and out of gracefully. None of these points are worthy of a star deduction in my mind though as the food is so damn good, I can excuse it all. Thanks Nanakusa for being just as amazing as you were 4 years ago.

We stumbled upon this location after looking for a place near our AirBnB for some Sushi. We tried to reserve a table online via their website but it didn't work. So we decided to instead walk a mile to their restaurant to see if we could get a table - or even sit outside if we had to - knowing there would probably be a bit of a wait. When we got there I entered the restaurant with my son who is 3 in a stroller and immediately was greeted by a Redheaded woman who smiled at me like I had 3 heads. I then asked kindly for their availability and explained my situation and the woman scoffed at me - as if I was stupid to even ask the question - to which she then turned her iPad around and showed a list of Reservations. I actually managed to point to my reservation that via the website had not seemed to schedule correctly - to which she aggressively said "well there's nothing we can do'. Right as I turned to leave the restaurant the rest of my party trickles in and asks if we can eat outside - One of the kind waitresses said "sure" to which she set us up outside. We ordered 3 bottles of Sake and they were £24 for 300ml bottles. We had hoped that they might be worth the price but unfortunately they weren't much better than what you can get from a CoOp with a liquor license. The Shrimp Ramen was fantastic and the sushi tasted great but was really overpriced for the quantity which they give you. Overall I totally get the lack of vacancy for a popular spot - but being scoffed at as you gently inquire about availability was really off putting. Even eating there despite it was difficult - and the alcohol/sushi being overpriced. Would not recommend. The sushi quality and the waitresses efforts are the only reason it's not 1/5.
