Probably time for a new soy sauce container

I almost got up and left because it took so long for someone to take my order. The bartender finally came over and took my order. The server obvIously forgot about me which was evident by the look of horror on her face when she saw me sitting there 25 minutes later. Nobody checked on me, nobody refilled my water. I got up and paid at the counter since nobody came over to clear plates or check on me.

I'd only tried teppanyaki once before, back in Melbourne and I remember the experience a lot more than what the food was like. While Japanese is my favourite cuisine, I always thought it would be better to visit here in a group rather than as a couple as it would be more fun. We visited on Saturday night for my father-in-law's bday and in the lead up, I think I'd read the menu about 15 times - that's how excited I was. When we arrived, we were told to take a seat in the bar area. This space reminded me a lot of a hotel bar and could do with some jazzing up to make it more interesting. I had an Elderflower Breeze mocktail - elderflower and apple juice - while we waited which was really sweet and refreshing and I'd definitely order that again. We were given an electronic buzzer to go back to the reception area when it went off. I think this is unnecessary given the size of the place as surely they could remember who you are in the 20 minutes you wait to be seated. We were then seated at a table with a really large group of 20-somethings on a night out which I was initially worried about but thankfully they were all lovely and didn't seem to mind us on the end of their table. I felt like I'd been waiting ages to order by the time we finally did as it was nearly 7.30 (our booking had been for 7pm). So keep this in mind if you have a tendency to get hangry. From here on in, the night really improved - so much so it still gets a 5 star score. We opted for the shogun menu at £25 pp (although important to note they put 10% on all bills so factor that in!). I thought it didn't seem like much food but in the end I really struggled to finish everything. There was chicken gyoza to start - this was tasty and I always enjoy gyoza. These arrived really quickly and I was glad as I was getting really hungry by this point. Our chef for the night was Mr Big and he was exceptional, really funny and good banter. We watched as he cooked up some sauteed potatoes which he then gets you to catch in your mouth. From my last teppanyaki experience I was expecting to have more food thrown at me but thankfully that was it. While he entertained us, we had grilled vegetables and fried rice. There was a choice of chicken or salmon for main and I was pleased I went with the salmon as it was a really generous portion and cooked really well with a crispy outside and still soft in the middle. I didn't expect to get two fillets but was very excited when I did. To finish I had the Japanese Yuzu cheesecake. To me it tasted pretty plain, just like normal cheesecake and I would have liked more of a yuzu kick. I also tried a Mojito which was nice although because it was made with Midori I'd have to say I preferred the taste of the mocktail more! (I'm not 18 any more, after all). Service was good and we were regularly checked up on for more drinks. There was one misunderstanding with the waitress when I asked for tap water and this seemed to confuse her - and then the water never appeared but the rest of the drinks order did. I've got for a 5 star rating because it was a really fun night - the chef was very entertaining and really made it a night to remember. I was really impressed with the food as well and even though it initially seems like an expensive way to dine, you really do get a lot of food (and the entertainment, of course).

So this is food entertainment :) For Mothers Day I made a reservation and went along to experience this style of dining. The hostess was lovely providing my mum with complimentary prosseco. We were the first of our table to arrive, so took our seat and inspected the menu. It was actually just enjoyable to watch the tables around us being delighted with food tricks and big flames. The rest of our table slowly filled up and we began chatting with other diners. They took our orders and advised that starters and sides would be brought out from the kitchen but our main meal would be cooked at the table. The atmosphere was great, the staff overly helpful and friendly, really adding to the whole experience. For starters we ordered a sharing plate of seafood based sushi. Which were all done amazingly; my favourites were the salmon rolls. The chef comes out with his big plate of potatoes and begins frying them and setting up his station. It turns out the game is to catch a piece of potato in your mouth! The whole table has to give this three attempts before he gives up. It was a lot of fun actually, more than I thought it would be. Then he stir fried vegetables and dished those out. Again, very tasty. Egg fried rice was next followed by the main dishes. It was fascinating to watch him cooking all the different meats. For main I ordered the raspberry duck and I have to say I wasn't that impressed by the food once it was all done. The veg and rice were good, as were the potatoes, and the best garlic mayo dipping sauce I've ever tried (they make it fresh everyday!) but the meat....meh. Wasn't anything to rave about. Edible though. After all it's the whole experience you're paying for. Considering the whole package it really wasn't that pricey, it was something different for a special occasion and overall enjoyable, I'd definitely recommend.

Prawns. I think they are pretty huge!

This is a place I like to take people that have never been! It's a real treat and the food is delicious. I love the prawns as they give you a good size portion and they're mighty huge! I was a little disappointed in the salmon dish that was supposed to have a spicy sauce (not spicy!) We had Mr. Big and he's brilliant. I enjoyed how he teased us, juggled sharp kitchen knifes and generally entertained us. I had a Gourmet card that offered 2-for-1 on 2 courses. Which is a spectacular deal! They also have an early diner menu for those wanting a cheap set menu before 6pm. I adore the garlic mayo sauce that is provided and I usually have to ask for more! I think this place is ideal for big groups and dates..

I was here for a dinner night few weeks ago. I booked in advance thinking that on a Thursday night this would be crowed but it wasn't. Just only to teppanyaki tables including us. We were seated, as expected, with other people. The place is really nice, but I think that more Japanesse decoration would be necessary. We ordered our drinks, and the staff that was really kind helped us to understand better the courses that were part of the show cooking. My bet was teppanyaki duck! The chef arrived and he started to prepare the potatoes and vegatables, they were ok but tooooo salty for me. And we played with us throwing potatoes that we had to catch. Impossible in my case. After that he started to cooked the rice and after that the main courses for each one. During the show cooking the chef was making jokes and he was so nice but I expected him throwing rice (as in others places I've been) or doing more show. The duck was delicious, but potatoes +vegetables +fried rice + main all of them in big quantities was too much for all the people on our table, so maybe they can reduce slighltly the quantity and reduce in a couple of pounds the price. Or have like two options with all or just with rice! One of the thing that I didn't like it was that they charge you service fee automatically and you have to say if you don't want it, it should be the opposite! You pay the tip if you want! The bill was around £40 for two people!

Big groups for a teppanyaki show!

I chose to spend luxuriously on my birthday because ... why the heck not eyh? I've always wanted to try Sapporo Teppanyaki in Glasgow, just to know what the hype is about! Safe to say that it's really quite nice haha. Being from Malaysia, teppanyaki-style restaurants are not all that unique. I'm quite used to watching people cook stir-fried veges and meat right in front of me, however, if you want a wee bit of entertainment and a laugh, I think Sapporo is a great place to go to! Especially if you're in a big group of say 10-20. It'd be like a nice dinner party with a chef entertaining you with flashy utensil tricks, egg and potato tossing and some jokes/pranks to keep you giggling while sipping on your pint of Asahi. So between me and the Italian, we ordered 2 sets, the Shojin Ryori (21pounds), and the Emperor (40pounds), and Asahi beers to compliment the food. The Shojin Ryori is a vegetarian option whiles the Emperor has a lot of chicken, meat, half a huge prawn, nigiri sushi, egg fried rice etc. I can say that we were stuffed by the end of the night. The highlight of the night was the beef that they cooked up for us! It was really nice to eat soft juicy meat! Sigh. LOOOOVE. However, not all of the food was great ... just ok. I think I prefer the actual teppanyaki dishes they stir-fried and served in front of us rather than the food that they prepared in the kitchen at the back (the rolls, tofu, nigiri weren't all that great. Seemed not too fresh). The staff members were amazing and friendly! They gave us suggestions and were pretty damn happy. One of the waiters said my eyebrows were on point (w00t w00t achievement unlocked!!). Anyway, if I go back, I think I'll try some ala carte stuff or just stick to teppanyaki dishes only. I don't think I'd eat here often though because it's just far too pricey. Only on special occasions probably! But will definitely recommend to those going in big groups for birthdays or even bonding sessions with your work colleagues haha!

    Yup, ANOTHER fire pic!

Visited here as part of a team night out. It's my second visit to Sapporo and both times have been equally as impressive. To make sense of the experience you have to almost split it into two. There is the 'restaurant' part and the 'entertainment' part, the fact that both of these revolve around one chef is what makes it all the special. First things first, the food is good. The main courses are cooked fresh in front of you on a hot plate, with starters and desserts appearing from the kitchen. I started with chicken gyoza and it was delicious. My main course, as it was part of our set meal, included some fried potatoes, egg fried rice, fried vegetables and salmon teriyaki. The salmon was wonderfully succulent, very fresh and with two large fillets cooked to perfection, pretty filling too! Of course teppanyaki is about more than the food and our chef didn't disappoint. The whole premise of teppanyaki is based in catering to tourists/westerners in Japan, so as well as the food being more focused on Western palates, so the chef's party pieces are an integral part of the experience. I won't spoil too many of the tricks and surprises, but you'll already have seen the photos of large flames bursting from the flat grill, quite a sight to see a few feet from you!! Sapporo is a fun, lively place which offers good (if not stellar) food but as I said, the food is only part of the experience. Perfect for a crowd, go with an open mind and you'll have a great time.

These boys have skillz. Cooking skills I mean. Sapporo provides an exciting and fun dining experience. It's better enjoyed when you're with a bigger group, because it's pretty interactive. Teppanyaki is a Japanese style cuisine that uses an iron griddle to cook food. This is done in front of the diners who sit around the hot iron griddle. Chefs are highly skilled, and good humored. The experience is similar to other teppanyaki restaurants I've been to throughout the US, probably because it seems to be a good business model to duplicate where there is demand. Sapporo is located in the heart of the fashionable Merchant City. Normally Friday and Saturday nights are busy as hell, and you're best booking a table in advance. However, lunch time and weekday evenings are pretty slow and easy to get a table. They offer an awesome 2-course business lunch special for around £9, which is a steal because dinner can normally be around £20 per head. The food is fresh and pretty standard to what you would find at most teppanyaki places. What you're paying for is the experience and the show. Each table has a dedicated chef who is highly skilled, and boy can they handle knives. Every meal we've had here has been satisfactory, but nothing mind-blowing. Service can be attentive, but I've also experienced the opposite at different times. Bottom line: good for groups and special occasions, as well as special fun surprises for a loved one. Prepare to shell out the cash, unless you go for their express business lunch. Also, don't go too often, because the novelty will wear off and you can predict every move and all the tricks the chef will do (**SPOILER ALERT** i.e. squirting "ketchup" in your face).

My sister and her boyfriends were over to visit me last weekend an I wanted to take them to somewhere exciting and funny, which probably they won't be able to find in Italy.. so what best than Sapporo??! I have always been curious to try the teppanyaki experience and i read positive feedback online, plus I love Japanese food so I was pretty excited!! We booked for 8.15pm but the whole experience didnt start till hal an hour later - we had to wait for everybody to arrived and then chefs needed to set up and get their hot plates ready. In the meantime, we were asked to order drinks and we placed our order. As starters, we decided to go for few plates and share them among the 3 of us: chicken gyoza, nigiri combination and vegetable tempura - everything was spot on, really enjoyed them while waiting for the big show. Finally the chefs were ready to start - he first cooked up some sauteed potatoes which he then gets you to catch in your mouth, very funny and there were lots of laughing, unfortunately i was not able to catch mine hahah Then, he started grilled vegetables and fried rice and noodles. There is a choice of chicken, pork, duck, beef and lamb as main course, and you then can also choose the sauce. I went for the classic chicken teriyaki, my sister for pork teriyaki and her boyfriend had duck teriyaki - everything was delicious, big satisfying portions and i tasted the duck and it was delicious, i will surely have that next time, with raspberry sauce. For dessert, we all had the white and milk chocolate spring rolls served with vanilla ice cream - OMG they were soooo good! Overall, really amazing experience, lots of fun and the food was great, as well as the service - a night to remember for sure! Can't wait to go back!

We stumbled upon this location after looking for a place near our AirBnB for some Sushi. We tried to reserve a table online via their website but it didn't work. So we decided to instead walk a mile to their restaurant to see if we could get a table - or even sit outside if we had to - knowing there would probably be a bit of a wait. When we got there I entered the restaurant with my son who is 3 in a stroller and immediately was greeted by a Redheaded woman who smiled at me like I had 3 heads. I then asked kindly for their availability and explained my situation and the woman scoffed at me - as if I was stupid to even ask the question - to which she then turned her iPad around and showed a list of Reservations. I actually managed to point to my reservation that via the website had not seemed to schedule correctly - to which she aggressively said "well there's nothing we can do'. Right as I turned to leave the restaurant the rest of my party trickles in and asks if we can eat outside - One of the kind waitresses said "sure" to which she set us up outside. We ordered 3 bottles of Sake and they were £24 for 300ml bottles. We had hoped that they might be worth the price but unfortunately they weren't much better than what you can get from a CoOp with a liquor license. The Shrimp Ramen was fantastic and the sushi tasted great but was really overpriced for the quantity which they give you. Overall I totally get the lack of vacancy for a popular spot - but being scoffed at as you gently inquire about availability was really off putting. Even eating there despite it was difficult - and the alcohol/sushi being overpriced. Would not recommend. The sushi quality and the waitresses efforts are the only reason it's not 1/5.

Service is pretty poor. I hasten to add not the fault of the waitress but the cooks. I found myself…read moresitting waiting for my meal whilst my companion was eating away. When you arrive, you are met with what I can only describe as a manky curtain - something that would normally really annoy me, but I totally forgive them.. This was one of the first restaurants I dined at in Glasgow with my now husband after our fateful meeting in Japan, so it is very special to the both of us. I'd hopped on a plane to the other side of the world to visit a man I'd known for 14 days, fell in love and moved here. We've returned here loads of times since then, but I haven't been to Nanakusa for nearly a year. In my endless quest of eating out as many places in Glasgow as possible, sometimes the real gems get left behind for the new and exciting places. I was so glad to return last night for a UYE and see that nothing has changed since I first fell in love with Nanakusa (I was already in love with my husband by the time we ate here!) Now, Nanakusa. It does Japanese food, and it does it really well (see the aforementioned reference to meeting my husband in Japan!). I really love sashimi and there aren't enough places in Glasgow that I can eat it, so I always get a portion when I eat here. I also love takoyaki (octopus balls) and can't resist them here. I've tried them elsewhere but Nanakusa's are the best. The service is always friendly, smiling and helpful. It was a little slow last night but there were only two people working the whole restaurant, but none of us were in a particular hurry. I had a small glass of rosé with my meal and they also have a selection of saké and plum wines, as well as Japanese beers for that really authentic taste. The food arrived quickly and as soon as it was ready. Two people had ordered bento boxes and these arrived about 5 minutes after everything else. The waiter seemed really conscious of this and kept coming over which was a nice touch. I loved all my dishes, the takoyaki and salmon sashimi and I also had the chicken teriyaki. Sides like rice and noodles are optional which is great if you're all about the protein. Downsides? As I said, service was a bit slow. I'm also not a big fan of the lighting (the wall panels change colour) as it makes it hard to take nice food photos! Haha! Bench seating can be difficult to navigate getting in and out of gracefully. None of these points are worthy of a star deduction in my mind though as the food is so damn good, I can excuse it all. Thanks Nanakusa for being just as amazing as you were 4 years ago.
