Nice and delicious for someone who love Korean Food At: Agule street near Charing x station (actually its not near but this is the nearest station for this restaurant. Lol) Menu : all is about Korean food. You can find the real Korean food here. Such Bibimbap, Kimchi Jjigae , Tokpokki. In my opinion all food that I ate is good. Price : acceptable

"Japaorean." This is the term coined by Lumberjack after our visit with a friend. A friend from Oman was in Glasgow for work (and play), and for her last night here, I wanted to take her out. We opted for Shilla because she was in the mood for Japanese, and I felt like Korean. So this seemed like a happy compromise. Finding the restaurant was a bit of a struggle for both Lumberjack and I, and my friend. I was a little confused with the name change, because we were looking for Kokuryo. We were sat on the ground level dining area, which was small but cheerful. There were about 6 tables on the ground level with seating along the window facing the Argyle Street. Additional seating could be found upstairs in the mezzanine. It's pretty contemporary and simple décor, which doesn't detract from the amazing gastronomical extravaganza about to take place. For a Monday evening it was heavin', and I'm really happy that I booked our table in advance over the phone. I'm also a firm believer that if the chefs and clientele are of that ethnicity, it's totally legit and tasty. Would you eat Korean food cooked by an Englishman? Nope, didn't think so! Joking aside, this place was really great... here's why: Lumberjack and I started with sushi (defo not Korean, but we love our sushi). LJ opted for lobster temaki, and I got eel nigiri. The sushi was fresh and delicious (obviously Japanese, not Korean). With most Korean restaurants I've frequented, you're normally served banchan (side dishes), which include gaji namul (boiled aubergine) and kongnamul (cold boiled bean sprouts with sesame oil). All very standard and tasty sides. Between the 3 of us, we ordered: ccan sho saewoo - deep fried king prawn in hot and sweet sauce dak gal bi - chargrilled chicken with Korean style rice cake, sweet potato and selected vegetables, served with rice beef teriyaki - chargrilled chicken with sweet teriyaki sauce, served with salad and rice The 3 mains were more than enough food to share, as we got to pick at each dish to sample. Yah family style dining! The flavors were so good, and the spice factor just right. Rather than a "Korean" restaurant, it was more of a mixture of both "Korean" and "Japanese". Overall the food was really great and made me miss my "big" Tina with whom I'd go for Korean with (plus she's half Korean). The service was decent overall. They were quite patient while we waited for my friend to arrive. The food came out in a timely matter, especially the sushi, because the poor sushi chef was inundated with so many orders. Between the 3 of us, the damage came to just under £50. Not too shabby. The sweet and lowdown: intimate restaurant, takes reservations (book in advance if you can), decently priced, fresh and tasty food, and decent service.

While my dining companions were all a little skeptical about the prospect of Korean food, I opted for a lucky dip of starters from the menu and duly devoured the complimentary snacks given to us pre-meal. Now I don't know what they were exactly but they were good. Very good. Considering myself to be something of a connoisseur by the time the main course came, I perhaps went a little overboard with my praise of all things Korean. The flavours! The textures! The presentation! Oh and I just love the way you're encouraged to eat with your hands, it's so rustic and informal, you know it's really rather liberating... ...only I was wrong. Having eaten around a quarter of my haemul pajeon (a sort of seafood omelette) by hand, our Korean waitress, who I'd noticed giggling with her colleague, handed me a knife and fork and informed me that the fact cutlery had been missing was a mistake on their part. In other words, they'd stood and watched this cringeworthy episode unfold for a good two or three minutes before ending it. Apologising profusely while trying, and failing, to keep a straight face, she ensured it was a thoroughly humiliating end to the meal for me. But you know, it was deserved, and in the end it was an experience which added to the place. Despite the modern decor, this small Argyle Street restaurant is informal and relaxed. The staff are bubbly and helpful and as the city's only Korean eatery it represents one of the most unique dining experiences in Glasgow. Most importantly, the food is fantastic and I don't care what etiquette says, it did taste even better with my hands.

"What else don't we have?" Was the shout of the waiter to the Chef as we tried to order our meal.... On Saturday a group of us visited Shilla to find out what Korean cuisine had to offer and I am afraid it was a bit of a disappointing experience on several fronts. The restaurant was boiling hot and they switched between opening the door and trying to get the air con to work. Neither did and instead it felt a bit like we were eating in a sauna. On top of this you really felt packed in due to the lack of space. Getting to know your fellow diners must be part of the experience. The menu showed that there was meant to be two Korean beers on offer. Sadly they did not have the OB in stock so I went with Hite. The Hite was fine, but a bit light for my taste. I suspect the OB has been out of stock for a long long time, as when Bex reviewed over a year ago it was also not available. Perhaps time for a menu update Shilla? I then tried to order scallops for starters and they did not have any. Our waiter shouted to the kitchen to find out what else they were out of and a whole list got shouted back. I managed to order some king prawns with "chefs special sauce" for starters and they tasted fine. The sauce just seemed to be soya with onions. The prawns were far from big. For mains I got a dish that was described as "spicy pork, squid and assortment" with rice. I still don't know what the assortment was. It all tasted ok, but is not something I would try again in a hurry. It just all seemed a bit bland The others diners with me faired either the same or worse and the general feeling was either I can't eat that or that the food was ok-ish. This place will survive because of location, but I think the staff gave up caring about the experience the diners have a long time ago.

Shilla has been on my to-eat list for EVER and I finally found a chance to get in for lunch yesterday. I believe it was Glasgow's first Korean restaurant, and inside it has a small casual dining area (good for lunch) as well dining upstairs. I took a seat by the window and looked over the lunch menu which is pretty comprehensive - there's starters, rice dishes, char-grilled meats and noodles. As it was a cold, blustery day I decided to go for the warming sizzle of dolsot bibimbab, served in a stone pot. I've tried this dish at Kimchi Cult and so I was keen to see how they compared. While I was waiting on my food they brought over some small plates of pickles which was nice. It was maybe 10 minutes for my meal to arrive and I love how it arrives sizzling hot. They also gave me a side of miso soup which I didn't expect but really appreciated. The dolsot comes with a side of hot sauce so you can flavour it how you like - I'm not really a hot sauce person, but overall I found the dish a little bland so it definitely needed it. The portion size was fine but I'm sure the one I tried at Kimchi Cult was a bit more generous. There was a raw egg in there which cooks as you mix it in, and I love how the rice on the bottom of the bowl crisps up as you eat. All up, I was impressed with this and really enjoyed it, but I have to say that KC is my preferred option for this dish. My bill came to £10 for the dolsot and an orange juice. The casual dining area is totally fine for a quick lunch and was pretty busy by the time I was leaving. I'd definitely go back here for another try as there was lots more on the menu that I'm keen to try.

This is my favourite restaurant of all time. I love the consistently excellent food, the authentic dining experience and unassuming and efficient waiting staff. Each time you dine there is a beautiful wee selection of amuse bouche to share - things like kimchi, potatoes, cucumber or bean sprouts. For started the seafood omelette is to die for- really varied seafood including delightful wee baby squid, mussels and calamari. The tofu and seafood stew is my go-to dish. I am never disappointed with the fantastically generous portion, awesome sticky rice and lovely silver chopsticks (forks provided too!). Absolutely love it.

Deliciously rich beef brisket, kimchi and spring onions in a perfectly steamed Taiwanese bun, with a small side of pickled mushrooms plus a portion of Kimchi Cheese fries (because you can't have too much kimchi, right!?) had me salivating from start to finish. Freshly cooked, so close you can hear the sizzling, it was wonderful and given its within walking distance of my where I live, and is a good alternative, to the ubiquitous burgers, I can see me back here very soon (I may be planning a trip tomorrow!!). That said, they do burgers as well but as they come topped with kimchi, I'm hopefully of more good things! We stumbled upon this location after looking for a place near our AirBnB for some Sushi. We tried to reserve a table online via their website but it didn't work. So we decided to instead walk a mile to their restaurant to see if we could get a table - or even sit outside if we had to - knowing there would probably be a bit of a wait. When we got there I entered the restaurant with my son who is 3 in a stroller and immediately was greeted by a Redheaded woman who smiled at me like I had 3 heads. I then asked kindly for their availability and explained my situation and the woman scoffed at me - as if I was stupid to even ask the question - to which she then turned her iPad around and showed a list of Reservations. I actually managed to point to my reservation that via the website had not seemed to schedule correctly - to which she aggressively said "well there's nothing we can do'. Right as I turned to leave the restaurant the rest of my party trickles in and asks if we can eat outside - One of the kind waitresses said "sure" to which she set us up outside. We ordered 3 bottles of Sake and they were £24 for 300ml bottles. We had hoped that they might be worth the price but unfortunately they weren't much better than what you can get from a CoOp with a liquor license. The Shrimp Ramen was fantastic and the sushi tasted great but was really overpriced for the quantity which they give you. Overall I totally get the lack of vacancy for a popular spot - but being scoffed at as you gently inquire about availability was really off putting. Even eating there despite it was difficult - and the alcohol/sushi being overpriced. Would not recommend. The sushi quality and the waitresses efforts are the only reason it's not 1/5.

I bloody wish I hadn't as it was a terrible meal. If I was told there was not actually a Korean chef in the kitchen I would not be in the slightest bit surprised. I am no Korean food expert, but I have been to the country and tasted the cuisine first hand so I at least have a bit of an idea and to me this was miles and miles away from being authentic. The place is swankier looking than I expected, but really that's one of the few positives I can think of. The prices are crazily high for the portion size and quality. )8 quid for half an aubergine starter!) The service is erratic. They did not give us enough menus for everyone. They gave us sauce bottles that did not pour any sauce. They brought the same dish twice and tried to serve another of our dishes to another table before the bringing it to us. Dishes tried - Korean pancake - nice but expensive. Saves it from being one star review. Gyosas - decent dumplings. Only other nice thing along with the pancake. Kimichi - is Kimichi, it is what it is. Crispy Korean chicken - expensive bland tasteless deep fried cardboard. More fitting in a low grade chinese takeaway. A complete horror show of a course. Deep fried aubergine - average tasting and a complete rip off. Waiter should have been wearing a highway man mask when serving it. Bibimbap - Korean beef rice bowl. Shocking rip off, about two bits of shredded beef in it and 4 veggies and the rest was rice. Usually I would only comment on my own food, but honestly mine were not actually that bad in comparison to some of my fellow guests. Fatty, chewy meat, tiny portions and bizarre combinations. If I had got a couple of the dishes other people had chosen I may have actually cried in the restaurant. The prices are way way way to high. The quality and portion size is really really had. The service is brusque at best. There are much better Korean restaurants in Glasgow. In my opinion this one is really going to need to up its game if it's going to survive.

It's really lovely, a nice sized dining room, good natural light, comfortable seating, pretty asian inspired looking bar, funky lighting. It was cool and I liked it. The service were brisk and to the point. There were a couple of staff members who were a little friendlier, but on the whole the staff didn't really interact with us at all other than to take our order and thank us for coming. Okay so let's talk food - they advertise themselves as Korean but I would say that they are more of an asian fusion place with Sushi, Teriyaki, Udon and Yaki Soba all on the menu alongside the Korean BBQ, Hot Pots and Bibimbap. We decided to order up some appetizers to share, the first thing we noticed was how eye wateringly expensive they were. Let me take you through what we had Kimchi Pancake (£8.60) - easily the best dish of the night by a mile, it was flavourful and crispy and we loved it, but it wasn't even close to being worth almost £9. Chicken Gyoza (£6.90) - 6 pretty nice lightly fried dumplings, they had lots of filling and a nice enough flavour. It was another favourite dish at the table. Crispy Chicken Korea Style (£8.70) - the chicken I didn't hate, it was a good sized portion but it was pretty small pieces and chewy, I ate it but a few at my table didn't do back for a second piece. It reminded me of deep fried shredded chicken from a chinese take away. Deep Fried Aubergine (£8.60) - This was by far and away the dish that annoyed us most cost wise. We were expecting maybe cubes of battered Aubergine....but it was literally half an aubergine which had been deep fried, and some sweet miso sauce squirted across the top for nearly £9. Let's take a second to think about that - Half an Aubergine and a drizzle of sauce for NINE of Queen Elizabeth's British pound sterling. Shockingly over priced. Unfortunately things did not improve with my main and I genuinely could've wept when it arrived. I went for the Teriyaki Duck Breast (£10.60) this arrived as a small portion of overly fatty flavourless duck breast, sliced thinly with a tiny bit of greasy watery sauce and a side salad leaves - no veg, nothing. The rest of my table looked on at me with sympathy as I ate my dry duck and boiled rice which I had to pay £2.50 for. As you can tell I was utterly unimpressed with the value for money and at £25 per person I felt it was obscenely over priced for the food we were served. Especially given that I came home and had to have something to eat because I was still hungry. I am actually still really disappointed by the whole experience this morning as I write this. Sadly this isn't somewhere I would visit again even if other people wanted to go, I feel like I was seriously fleeced for this meal and that is not a feeling I enjoy or wise to repeat.

Beef patty, double bacon, bone marrow, Roquefort butter, caramelized onion and black truffle mayo on the side. And it came with chips. There was a bit of a wait but we were drinking with friends so weren't too bothered. The burgers were nicely presented on a tray with the chips in a pot. Excellent chips and I really liked the black truffle mayo. The burger was obviously the highlight though - it was totally delicious. I actually don't eat too many beef burgers these days as I find a lot of them are overcooked and bland but this was heaven - perfectly cooked meat (rare) and the Roquefort was just the perfect match as it really gave the burger a punch. The combination of flavours was just perfect for me and I really enjoyed it. I've had some good burgers in my time and I really do mean it when I say this is right up there at the top. My only negative comment is really the pricing - £13.50 for a burger and chips is pretty hefty but I can also understand why as this is a special pop up burger which tastes amazing and obviously uses quality product. I get a bit like a kid in a candy store who happily throws the whole section of Japanese foods into the trolley, as well as endless packets of noodles. The supermarket is nothing fancy - bare concrete floors and a slightly odd layout can be confusing (I always worry I've missed something amazing). Over the past few visits we've managed to get some really good stuff though - they stock kewpie (delicious Japanese mayonnaise), cheap steaming baskets for cooking at home, frozen dumplings when you need a lazy dinner as well as a huge range of cheap herbs and spices. You'll never pay supermarket price again. I only wise they had more of a Japanese selection - but they do have a good mix of Asian food, as well as some European too. This is definitely a love-it or hate-it place, I can see that it might put some unadventurous people off, but if you like trying something different, have a look here and see what you can find!

I had heard of here but wasn't entirely sure whereabouts it was until my man and I stumbled upon it…read morewhen looking for a bite to eat for dinner. It's much smaller than I thought and seats about 8, possibly 9 at a push. It mostly deals with take away orders which we found to be very popular. If you fancy going as a small group I would probably book ahead. The girl who was serving us was rushed off her feet so kept apologising but we were in no rush and to be honest we didn't need to wait long. We ordered a bento box each, I had Chicken Teriyaki and my man had Chicken Curry. The bento boxes came in plastic sectioned trays and the sushi is all individually wrapped in sets of two. They keep all the sushi in an open fridge. The girl was constantly at the fridge as she made up many deliveries from there. So I guess for ease they keep all sushi maki type sushis wrapped up. If you want any other sushi's they will make up fresh for you. We both found our chicken dishes sauces very watery and I found the chicken texture a little strange, maybe a cheap cut. Who knows?! It still tasted alright and replenished my stomach well. I did find the sushi maki was smaller but cheaper, so not as much filling probably helping to lower the cost. It still was flavoursome and I would go back. The girl did forget our miso soup but made it up with more sushi maki when she realised. They also do sushi boxes from £3.75 and also party boxes which is made up of loads of sushi ranging from £19.99. I think it would be a great idea to have some boxes or a party box and have some sushi in Kelvingrove, which is literally round the corner. If the nice weather keeps up a wee trip could be coming soon.

After an afternoon of surprise birthday hangover Olympics in Kelvingrove Park, the two "German"…read moreOlympians were seeking some healthy sustenance. Having participated in such strenuous events like the "hurl a massive column wax candle", "schwing zee sausage", "pin the torch on the Olympian", "beat the goalie", and an obstacle course, they needed some good ole protein... FISH! However, lacking any energy and motivation, it was all about, "Why can't we order in like that place in Munich?" (Note: we really did order in sushi while we were in Munich, and it was effin delicious) *LIGHT BULB* The other day while we were driving through Finnieston, I noticed a wee shop next to the Korean restaurant Shilla, a "newish" sushi bar/takeaway called Cailin's Sushi. I took a mental note of this for future reference. While I may whinge about the Japanese food in Glasgow, Nanakusa has always been my go-to anytime I'm jonesin' for some sushi or a bento. Though my only gripe is that it can get quite pricey for the quality, though the quality actually surpasses that of YO! Sushi, Oko, Wudon, Ichiban, Wagamama, etc. On this occasion, my "German" teammate confirmed that Cailin's delivered and their offering was immense... nigiri, gunkan, hand rolls, hoso maki, futomaki, special rolls, sashimi, noodles, rice dishes, bento boxes, various sushi boxes, and desserts. My eyes were bigger than my stomach, and I ultimately ordered more that I could eat... seabass nigiri, mackerel nigiri, grilled eel hand roll, and a full spicy tuna roll. My teammate had the crispy duck hand roll and chicken katsu curry. Delivery was swift, but not as lightening fast as Usain Bolt; 30 minutes is standard! When the food arrived, presentation was much nicer than I had expected or experienced (i.e. Home Wok's sushi). The individually wrapped nigiri might be a little over the top, as they already come in a container. So I'm a bit confused as to how that adds to its "freshness"; if anything I think it's slightly wasteful packaging? The food itself was fresh and flavourful, and the miso soup was delightful. I'm happy to report that the fish didn't smell of ammonia or anything horrible (all good things). The only negative was the chicken katsu curry was already quite soggy, since the curry had been poured over the chicken prior to delivery. If the curry sauce were kept separately in transit, then my teammate would have been able to enjoy the crisp coating before the lashing of the silky curry sauce. While this probably wasn't the best sushi of my life, Cailin's does offer Glaswegians great value for food quality and price, especially when delivery is only £1.50. The £12.60 worth of sushi was enough to force me out of my Oktoberfest dirndl and Chuck Taylors combo, and into some stretchy yoga bottoms. Glasgow has a lot of catching up to do with regards to a good representation of more diverse ethnic cuisines like the other cosmopolitan cities around the world (*cough* NYC, Chicago, LA, Seattle, San Francisco...). With Cailin's offering fresh sushi delivery to either your home or office, this is a refreshing option in a land that birthed the deep-fried Mars bar. Yummers.
