It is like a Tesco Extra dedicated to Oriental Foods. Need it and you will find it. We used to go to Chun Wing at Dobbies Loan but this place puts it to shame. There are only two cities that have a See Woo, London and Glasgow. Mainly staffed by Chinese and Poles, they can generally point in the right direction if you know what you want. The selection is impressive. Dry goods, frozen, seafood, noodles and spices, you will not find anything that matches this place till you hit London. Just go and wander, if nothing else to find out what things people will eat and insist on being imported for their consumption. Durian fruit or Shrimp Chips - everything is a gastronomic adventure. I love it when the husband concedes that we can take a trip to Seewoo - we have to limit our visits here as we seem to spend a fortune, even though everything is cheap. I get a bit like a kid in a candy store who happily throws the whole section of Japanese foods into the trolley, as well as endless packets of noodles. The supermarket is nothing fancy - bare concrete floors and a slightly odd layout can be confusing (I always worry I've missed something amazing). Over the past few visits we've managed to get some really good stuff though - they stock kewpie (delicious Japanese mayonnaise), cheap steaming baskets for cooking at home, frozen dumplings when you need a lazy dinner as well as a huge range of cheap herbs and spices. You'll never pay supermarket price again. I only wise they had more of a Japanese selection - but they do have a good mix of Asian food, as well as some European too. This is definitely a love-it or hate-it place, I can see that it might put some unadventurous people off, but if you like trying something different, have a look here and see what you can find! read more

I'm a huge fan of Seewoo the grocery store. This is a review for Seewoo the restaurant: The welcome was very friendly and we opted for the three course lunch special at £9.80. I struggled to understand the other menus so this was a good option for us. My starter was veg spring rolls with dipping sauce - this is my usual go-to starter and while I wasn't that taken by the flavour of these ones (a first for me) I still woofed them down! My singapore noodle stir-fry was very good though apparently the chicken was dry and tasted pre-cooked. The beer was very reasonably priced as was the coca cola which came in one of those teeny bottles that hold only enough to satisfy the thirst of a small child. I noted there were no condiments or sauces on any of the tables. I could have done with a shot of soy sauce on my meal. I chose the ice-cream with chocolate sauce for dessert. A single scoop of ice-cream arrived naked without the sauce, but the waitress disappeared too quickly to do anything about it. The 'home-made' gateaux was a more like a cross between a gateaux and a cheesecake with the topping looking and tasting gelatine enriched. That fact only really matters if you are vegetarian, but heads-up if you need to know! NB On visiting the well sign-posted restaurant toilets I found two ladies in hot discussion about how dirty they were. They were a bit on the grungy side, but what bothered me most was the complete lack of soap at the handbasin. Seewoo is possibly a brilliant restaurant for lovers of all things asian, oriental, meaty and fishy, but for me its a step too far from the safety of my vegetarian happy places. Fans of Seewoo may roll their eyes, but I'm a bit more comfortable with the food at Wagamama and Lychee Oriental. Yes, I'm a complete ignoramus, I know I know. If you are at all knowledgeable about this type of cuisine, then you should completely ignore my review of the restaurant anyway, coming as it does from a vegetarian point of view making it largely irrelevant to most people. read more

Wow. Where has this place been hiding? I genuinely believed I was uncovering a hidden gem when I set off for Possil having heard through the grapevine that the best Oriental market in Glasgow lay in the unfancied area. Expecting a quaint, rough around the edges, family-run deli, it's fair to say the sight of SeaWoo came as something of a surprise. At 60,000 square feet, this monster makes your average Tesco Superstore feel like a corner shop. What's more, if I was uncovering a hidden gem, then judging by the hundreds of people packing the aisles during my visit, it's fair to say there were plenty of Glaswegians who'd been keeping it a secret. Offering a truly unparalleled selection of goodies from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea and Japan, shopping here is exhilarating and overwhelming in equal doses. Seawoo, quite frankly, stocks everything. And I mean everything. No, I don't think you understand, really everything. The fish market is undoubtedly the most fascinating section I came across, although not for squeamish, but it's impossible to really take in all on offer here in just one visit. Instead, I'm planning to forgo a holiday abroad this year and book myself two weeks in Seawoo. Maybe then I can scratch the surface and truly begin to savour this fantastic resource in all its glory. Was really busy today, pouring with rain and miserable however I managed to get a space near the entrance so I wasn't too drowned by the time I got in It's a great selection of Asian foods however I have noticed it's starting selling Easter European foods for our polish community which is great to see I am terrible at navigating this supermarket, can never find what I need but it doesn't help that I can't read most the languages on any of the packets I love the seafood section with the live fish, crab, lobster and even eel ..... I am away stop afraid to buy it Alive It has a good selection for my needs even if they are very sparse in the grand scheme of potentials on offer Most things are decent prices and they have contactless to aid speed at the check outs read more

A haven for anyone needing anything at all, and I mean anything from some coconut juice with pulp in a can to a fresh lobster to pick up straight out the tank. This superstore is lined with far of exotic delicacies that we here in Scotland are only lucky enough to try or even see when we are off travelling. It is very exciting to visit here the first time, but I found this wore off after I had tried a few of the things and they really were not my sort of thing. I like to try new things and will keep going back to See Woo because it is pretty close to the city centre and has just about everything Asian and Polish. The staff are friendly with a smile but cannot offer much help as I think their English is quite limited, as I found out on my expedition for stock cubes. this only adds to the mystery, as you will try work out what products are from their picture. read more

How have I only just found this place?! An impressive 60,000sq ft oriental supermarket, this place offers Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai and Malaysian food in both a supermarket and cash & carry style. I was incredibly impressed upon entering by the amount they actually have! I would say the place is quite inexpensive considering how good quality the produce is. They have everything from packets of noodles to live lobster, and I simply had to pick up a few boxes of my favourite Chinese sweet Hello Panda Biscuits! A lot of the product packaging is in each country's language, and solely that language, but most of the packaging has a sticker somewhere telling you in English what everything is. The staff are friendly but relatively limited on their English skills, so you're probably better asking the security guards if you need help finding something. Up the back of the store is a massive live produce section, which sells crabs, fish, shrimp, prawns and lobster, and probably other things I didn't see! They also have a lot of fresh squid, fish, meat etc, and friendly staff (but probably the staff with the worst English.) An amazing place, I'd advise going whether you need a couple of lemons, or 10kg of squid! read more

After visiting the seewoo restaurant last week today I popped into the grocery store. As previous reviews have said this place is huge with a fanastic selection of asian and european food. Todays visit gets a 5 star review as i found gluten free soy sauce and what appeared to be gluten free apring rolls. The ingrediants didnt seem to list anything that consisted of wheat so i am excited to give these a try. There was a fridge full of tiger tiger gluten free sauces - a much bigger range than what supermarkets offer. Right up at the back there is big tanks full of crab, lobster and eels ..... eeeuuuuugh!! My boyfriend took a Chinese cookery class last year and has been promising me a taster of what he learned. Add that to the fact that he promised his mate and his mates wife that he would also cook them Chinese and we have a trip to Seewoo on the cards! Get in!! Its a nice walk from city centre, but well worth it once you walk through the doors and experience the glory that is See Woo. On this particular day, they were offering samples of Duck, alone and also duck spring rolls. We honestly hit the jackpot!! The store is like a maze of delicious foods, sprinkled with people along the way who are available to help with any questions you might have. They have an amazing fresh veg section with anything you might be looking for, a fresh seafood and meat department (including live seafood to choose from), a rather extensive frozen food section and a never ending dry goods area. On top of all of that, if you own a restaurant, they also have loads of items to buy in bulk. We made out like a bandit with our purchases of various spices, wonton and spring roll wrappers, jasmine tea (my boyfriend is a convert) and fresh veg. Should there every be a moment when you're thinking you want to make your own Chinese, please do yourself a favour and make your way to See Woo. There really is something for everyone (even if you're not planning a Chinese meal for friends like we are). read more

I love my food, I love Chinese food, and I love Seewoo. Sadly I just find it too big, overwhelming, and just plain substantial to really do it credit. I literally don't know where to start, so on the few visits I've made I end up doing what I always do. Standing around sniffing the bottles of peanut oil, something I'd recommend even if it does make you look like a weirdo. It's the best whiff in the world. Great as it was, I felt slightly underwhelmed by the "fresh" section. From what I'd heard, I was hoping to be handed a cleaver then asked to go to town on some poor cow, goat or pig, or perhaps even throttle a chicken, but sadly it was not to be. They will kill a live fish for you if you fancy, but considering I once saw quite a few of our pond-dwelling chums clubbed mercilessly to death at a fish market, this doesn't quite satisfy my wanton bloodlust. Seewoo makes me want to book a holiday back to Asia right now! I walked in and it instantly reminds me of food and drinks that bring back memories of holidays to Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. The store itself is nothing fancy at all. None of the western supermarket gloss finish or polished edges. Little in the way of friendly staff or customer service. But who cares about that when you can get dumplings and hanoi beer! Prepare to have to search about a mish mash of isles searching for your chosen food or drink; but it will be worth it as you are rewarded with several brand options for everything on your hunt. You may even stumble into the polish section and come away with some tasty polish sausage! Dumplings. They have lots of different options. Prepare to fall into dumpling heaven as you try to work out how many 1.5kg bags can fit in your basket ...... Actually scratch that. In your freezer! Don't worry even though they are frozen they taste awesome and authentic. So whether it is Asian beer, veggies, sweets or just a car boot full of dumplings you are after this is the place to come. read more

I do love oriental supermarkets and this is no exception. There is a great selection of products lots that are imported by seewoo. They are the sort of place it is easy to feel out of place by the sheer volume of products you will have never seen before but don't be scared. If you go in with a list of the products your looking for then you won't come out disappointed. On the other hand if you are like me you could come out having spent a fortune on bits and pieces that you have no need for and probaly won't use any time soon. They have a great butchery, and fresh fish department but be prepared for the unusual cuts you wouldn't see in your local scottish butcher. The same can be said for their bakery. See woo is probably the only decent asian supermarket I have been to in Glasgow so far. It has all your usual asian foods like fresh seafood, instant noodles, sauces, dim sum and cooking utensils. It is not a fancy supermarket, just a big warehouse so it is quite simple to navigate your way round. The prices of vegetables etc are definitely cheaper than your Tesco/Asda/Morrison's etc and they are usually quite fresh. read more

This is the only oriental superstore I've come across in Glasgow, and it is pretty spectacular. If you're wanting to nip out for a couple of ingrediants for a stir-fry, don't bother coming here unless you've got a whole afternoon to spare, as not only is it HUGE, it's also full of all sorts of exciting and unusual exotic foods to coo over. Vegetable are cheap and well worth stocking up on, as are the spices - you can get enormous bags of spices at a fraction of the cost in normal supermarkets. There's a substantial number of packets throughout the store that are quite mystifying in their untranslated Mandarin packaging, but it's always a bit exciting buying something completely unlike anything you've bought in Britain before. There's also a large meat section that looks a little questionable, but a fascinating fish market where you can pick up all sorts of fish - take them live from all the tanks on show, or have them killed fresh for your dinner. Whether you love or hate that kind of market, it's an experience to see it in front of you next to a freezer aisle full of dumplings. I always end up spending much more than I mean to here, so it's not as cheap as you might hope for everything, but I would highly recommend taking a trip out here one day - oh, even if you are only cooking up a stir fry! read more

This place is amazing. It's like a supermarket you'll find in a distant foreign land yet is in walking distance from home! Full of weird and wonderful products that make shopping here a form of entertainment. I like to grab a bubble tea from the Easy Way bar at the back of the complex (beyond the restaurant) and just browse the alleys. Every type of seafood, meat, fruit and vegetable is available (in more ways and more fresh than you are used to) as well as a variety of ready meals and frozen dim sum for you to take home and steam. read more

Great Chinese supermarket. Anything Asian name it, you'll find it here at a fraction of the cost. Cost, moving onto restaurant side is overpriced. True the food is lovely but it's expensive. See woo has been my life saver in Scotland as I'm from Asia n it's basically an oriental supermarket. I can find almost everything I need from it. Veggies like shitake oyster mushrooms enoki , fruits like dragon fruit papaya lychee, for meat, you can get different cuts of beef, chicken livers and port neck, even bones which are good for making a soup base. Also, lots of cooking sauces, seasonings, noodles, rice etc if you can name it. Sometimes you may find some surprises like some popular snacks from Asian countries, and they don't always have the same stock. It makes you look forward to go there to see if they have something new which can slightly help you heal your homesickness. I often find the snacks I like there. If you are Asian you will definitely think its existence is so essential for living life in Scotland, if you are not you will enjoy your treasure hunting here. Everything is well-organized and well displayed as well. Overall, it's a pleasant and clean place to shop although it doesn't look posh. Staff are all very friendly and helpful too. read more
