This used to be Caro World Food Store but has now changed it's name to Bashoor Food Store. I do not…read moreknow why but I'm sure they have a good reason. It is pretty much the same shop as far as I can tell. This shop is well needed in the East End as there is a distinct lack of ethnic/world food stores for all your cooking supplies & ingredients. I used to pop in here all the time when I lived closer for my favourite chapatis and also the odd spice or herb but this place sells so much more. They specialise in selling Kurdish, Arabic, Polish, Iranian & Turkish foods, fresh & frozen. They also sell Halal meat, which is brilliant in an area that hasn't many ethnic produce shops or butchers, let alone Halal butchers. I was on the hunt for some saffron one day & I'd tried so many supermarkets & shops that I'd almost given up looking and then I remembered this place (it's also handy in that it is open 7 days a week). Right enough, these dudes had what I was looking for and a great price too! Saffron can be stupidly expensive (I've recently seen some in M&S at a daft price) but in here they sold wee individual plastic containers of saffron for only 99p! Brilliant. Joojeh kebabs for tea!! Yas :) As well as herbs, spices, fresh foods, meat and the jars/packets they also sell fresh ethnic pastries/sweets and breads too. The last time I was in nearly the WHOLE counter was covered in them sweet treats maybe to tempt weaker customers (I was not tempted coz I am STRONG! Haha, nah, not really, I just prefer savoury snackage), clever. If this place was as big and as well stocked as say Super Asia in the South Side then this would deffo be a 5 star place. I just feel like a need a wee bit more choice, but for a start its a great place, especially in this part of the city.

The butcher given the old & bad meat and when we said to the guy to put boneless, mince separately and cut into small pieces, they have cut & given in large pieces with all fat on meat. This is totally a fraud. NEVER gonna visit this store again, other stores or cash & carries in Glasgow are much better then this place. You will be end up wasting your money. Prices for meat is higher than the Global Food Store in Edinburgh, here they are selling £5.79 per kg and there in Edinburgh is £4.99 per kg, even the price doesn't bother us that much what they have done and given on this visit. Secondly, the customer service is so bad. The staffs talking in their own languages in Butcher side and also at the Tills. Asked for a bag, the womens talking while facing on other side not forcing on what they are doing while serving a customer. You can clearly see, most of the good reviews for this store is written by family & relative members. If you have a chance to visit this rubbish store in life, you may find out all things I have mentioned in this review here...

There are isles full of exotic ingredients - well, they may not be quite as exotic to the modern pallet, but you get what I mean - and a halal butcher up the back! If you want to make an authentic Indian meal, you should definitely consider coming in here. They even sell the cooking utensils! For the last year I've been living on a super tight budget, so it's been very important to have bulk dry stores for using in my slow cooker and for lasting to when my food money runs out! I got me a 10kg bag of rice and a 5kg bag of lentils to see me through for many months to come and it was about £15 (or less, I can't quite recall). I honestly see these items lasting a good 6 months or more, so it was a great investment! I have a major weakness for Asian sweets, which they also sell! I love my jalebi, gajrela, and my favourite gulab jamun (especially with ice cream), and I can get big boxes of them here! Not to say that I can't get these sweets elsewhere as well, but it's terribly convenient to pick them as you do other shopping. They are a very nice, naughty treat for me. If you're ever near Eglinton Toll, pop in and have a wee nosey!

While you need only look at the slightly ramshackle interior to realise African Embassy is not, in actual fact, an embassy, it is an extremely handy one-stop shop for the essentials any African expats could be looking for. Slicker than Africare on the city's Southside, African Embassy's food products range from frozen meat (including goat's leg and lung) to fruits and vegetables, while a fine range of beverages and breakfast cereals are also on offer. What's more they operate a small DVD-rental area which includes the latest African films (were you aware that there's such a thing as Nollywood in Nigeria? I wasn't but I am now) and also offer more practical products such as phonecards and money transfer services. The best feature of the shop, however, is it's hairdressing salon. Hair steaming, Ghana weaving, retouching, you name it, the staff at African Embassy can probably do, and there are also a plethora of haircare products for sale. A definite slice of Africa in the East End of Glasgow.

Always greeted with a smile and 'Hello' and his wife always compliments me on my dresses/hair ~ so nice! Certainly service with a smile. I usually pop in for the more 'exotic' vegetables/spices/herbs (no, not those type of 'exotic herbs', tut-tut!) and the odd packet of noodles or chilli sauce. I love their more exotic and Asian variety of produce as let's face it, you can pretty much get apples/potatoes/etc.. anywhere but West Indian Hot Sauce or some quality spices are a wee bit harder to track down. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because sometimes their produce isn't the freshest I've seen; it's edible but if like me you don't eat a dinosaur (herbivore of course) load of fruit/veggies a day then it'd not last long in your hoose before you have to toss it. I'm all for supporting the small shop/business owners over the mega giants (Te*co to name but one) so shopping in these smaller, local and (most usually) friendlier shops is always good for the soul and your local area.

Its convenient to buy everything all in one at the supermarket, but Ahemd's brings back that feeling of community and the shop owner asking you how your dog is as you go in. Ahmed's is a bit different and I like to save the pounds so I am keen to go to avoid the corporate empire that is the supermarket to go to this pleasant shop. You get my vote!

We ordered from Celino's on August 19th, and one of the dishes -- the Allo Scoglio Pasta -- contained spoiled crayfish. The smell was unmistakable and completely inedible. We didn't eat anything else in the order out of caution, as the risk of food poisoning was too high. I grew up in Greece and know seafood -- this was clearly off. Given that my mother was previously sick for weeks due to bad crayfish, we weren't willing to take any chances and threw out the entire meal. I contacted the restaurant immediately. The manager acknowledged the issue and initially offered a replacement meal for collection only, which felt dismissive considering the seriousness of the situation. I was told I'd be called the next day by the area manager -- that call never came. Eventually, someone called around 7pm and all they did was refund one meal and insinuate that we didn't know what we were talking about. It was condescending and disappointing. Expecting us to collect a free meal from the same kitchen that nearly served us spoiled seafood is not a solution -- it's a lack of accountability. Pointing us toward Uber Eats to resolve the issue just felt like passing the buck. Food safety should be a top priority, and the lack of proper follow-up or genuine concern from the team is alarming. I hope no one else has to experience this.

It was mainly to do with the all-pervasive muzak that rotted your brain into something like an automaton from The Stepford Wives. Thankfully most places have stopped the muzak these days. I wasn't a huge fan of Lidl either, mainly because of their insistence that you enter at one door and proceed around the entire shop in an orderly fashion before exiting via the tills, which totally destroyed one's innate desire to browse and possibly leave without buying anything. That doesn't apply in this Lidl, which is laid out pretty much like any other supermarket with interconnecting aisles allowing you to wander as you please. There are some great bargains to be had in all departments, and it's always worth a look at the 'specials' bins where you can find all manner of bargain stuff like DIY tools, toys and games that you've never heard of, shelving units and even clothing items. Packaged goods tend to be OK if not the best quality that you might be used to if you shop at Waitrose normally, but the fresh veg and fruit is not such a bargain unless you like buying in bulk - you won't find single onions here. It's not always that fresh either - we almost bought a pack of oranges until we discovered at the till that one of them was completely green with mould - yuck!
