I have to concur with my fellow Yelper; Good Food to Visa is indeed a fantastic motto, and it's also pretty apt for this shop.
While you need only look at the slightly ramshackle interior to realise African Embassy is not, in actual fact, an embassy, it is an extremely handy one-stop shop for the essentials any African expats could be looking for.
Slicker than Africare on the city's Southside, African Embassy's food products range from frozen meat (including goat's leg and lung) to fruits and vegetables, while a fine range of beverages and breakfast cereals are also on offer.
What's more they operate a small DVD-rental area which includes the latest African films (were you aware that there's such a thing as Nollywood in Nigeria? I wasn't but I am now) and also offer more practical products such as phonecards and money transfer
services. The best feature of the shop, however, is it's hairdressing salon. Hair steaming, Ghana weaving, retouching, you name it, the staff at African Embassy can probably do, and there are also a plethora of haircare products for sale.
A definite slice of Africa in the East End of Glasgow. read more
