So after dinner around 10pm, we decided to go to Plan B Bar. I was told in advance that this was a neighborhood dive bars, so when we got there, there was a nice terrace with tables outside and people sitting outside. When we walked in, I noticed how CLEAN it was and it did not fit my definition of a dive bar at all. Instead, it reminds me more of a coffee spot with lots of tables... but at night and with drinks instead of coffee. I did see a waitress hand a menu to some people but I'm not sure of it was a food or drinks menu. There was a DJ there, and he was playing dance music although I did not see a dance floor though. Perhaps they removed the tables for the dance floor later at night. We stayed for a couple of drinks, then we left. Overall, we had a good experience. read more

My travel companion and I laughed when we saw the name of this bar during the day. At night, we stumbled in and didn't realize it was the same place. It was a solid if not intentional choice. The interior is clean with cute, retro decor. There is an interesting selection of drafts and a page of mixed shots on the back of the menu, both of which had many delicious options. The bartenders were diligent though not terribly friendly, but it was late and they probably wanted to go to sleep. I vaguely remember liking the music, but I wasn't sober enough to remember what specifically was playing. There's a hair salon in Cambridge named plan b as well. I don't understand why you'd name your business that. It's like naming your kid Mediocre. I guess low expectations are easier to exceed? read more

WORST BAR EVER. I was part of a bachelorette party and as we walked down the street we walked in purely based on the name--so kudos to good naming--but that's all this place has to offer. Minimal liquor selection. Run of the mill cocktails, and TERRIBLE service. We had one drink and walked out. DONT GO HERE. I saw the waitress once. Go anywhere else. Literally anywhere else. Believe it or not, that was actually my second option for the night. I confess that I was initially aiming for Bily Kun before switching to Plan B, the Czech embassy being invaded by foxes and cougars that evening. Come for the patio and feel the fresh breeze of Montreal's summer nights, while enjoying a drink in a small, cozy and romantic environment. A garden-inspired homy little corner, away from the glittering downtown lights. More of a sensual and red tone atmosphere, highly propitious for a date or an audible conversation. Nothing aiming for subversion. Drinks were creative enough to point Plan B out. Wide range of combinations are offered with different sorts of cocktails and shots. No crafting or mixology here, just feel good drinks to keep the conversation flowing. You will flow between a classic Stinger with a local touch to Japanese-inspired Tokyo shots. However, they should try to handle Cognac more accurately because too much is just too much (well, Med St Laurent regulars will probably deny it but who cares). Dig this place for the packed terrace in the summer, but maybe even more so for a cozy mellow midweek 5a7 on the black couches when it's cold out. Very friendly, very bilingual staff who are relaxed and know their business, and who will sometimes surprise you with a uke story if the mood is just right. One of the better bars in the hood. It features very comfy indoor seating as well as great back outdoor yard with overhead heating lamps for the chilly times of the year. Rain or shine, this is a good choice for a bar night with friends. They have about 9 beers on tap, mostly foreign, and one cider. They also have about the same amount of bottled beer, and a nice cocktail menu. No beer pitchers )-: but a lively and friendly atmosphere. The music isn't too loud for a conversation and the vibe is more classy than hipster. Prices are not cheap - average for the area. read more

This is a cute little neighborhood bar. They have a nice collection of beer. They will also serve you some food if you're hungry. The best part of this bar is the Terrasse in the back. It's really cute and it makes you want to stick around all night. And the worst part of this bar is the service. Unfortunately you can spend a lot of time looking around for a waitress, waving your hands, and wondering why are they not looking over this way. If it wasn't for the service I would give it 4 stars. We laughed about this place all the way down the street. Plan B wasn't a back up for us it was our destination we just stumbled upon two or three other bars first. We met some friendly guys who pointed us in the right direction for post drinking activities in Montreal. We ordered Grey goose avec soda not pricey at all and came in our your own glasses..... I think Montreal has furthered our alcohol abuse.We chatted with strangers and migrated on to our next bar. read more

True: service can be slow. But it's just a matter of ordering strategically, because they are typically understaffed during the terrasse season. So instead of ordering drink by drink, go for a bottle of "something" with mixers, when in a group. And it doesn't have to be hard liquor. Wine cocktails are hot and easy to make at the table. The strong points are definitely the attention to detail in the charming decor (with airline inspired design choices). Also, the music trak in the background is usually quite thoughtful and enjoyable! Or, at least it was- last friday, when I was there and the resident DJ was spinning. As for the weak points: it was cold as hell with the front and back door open. I didn't mind since I just rocked my jacket the whole time- but for everyone else i.e. the ladies who were out with their latest, pretty spring fashions- were freezing their ass off---- literally. But my biggest complaint is leaving the back door open to the terrace aka the "Smoke Pit". I despise how terraces have turned into chimney-stack festivals. Next time I go, I'll break out a long-ass, double-corona Cuban cigar (which takes a good 45mins to smoke) and see how fast I clear everyone out- just to make a point. But seriously, the whole interiour of Plan B smelled like an ashtray. Speaking of smells... I must warn you if you sit close to the bathrooms, there didn't seem to be ventfans in the washrooms, so when someone pushes a number two... it will be waking up your nose--- so romantic. Febreeze could help, at the very least... Many details missed at this bar with customers suffering for it. Wouldn't be my first choice of bar, because of it, as well. read more

Nice relaxed ambiance, but rude service. We went there round 8 or 9 on a Wednesday. The waitress took a long time to come take our order & even longer to make out two cocktails. Normally I'm pretty patient, but there were only about 4-5 other tables which seemed to already have been served. After we got our drinks, the waitress brought us the bill right away (card reader in hand) before we even started drinking! We would have stayed for more than one drink, but we felt like we were being rushed out for no reason.. Don't think we'll be going back. Besides that, the menu was pretty good. I ordered their Pimm's cup since it was a special, but it was too sweet for me. read more
