He said they don't serve it but it's okay he will just "give" us a bottled water. We need not order it because we carried water bottles on us. Not impressive for the price they were asking for. Avoid this restaurant which you easily pass through to get to St. Peter's Square. The name they carry now is changed to Cafe Moretto but same crooks!!! They charged us 10 % servicio on all our items and yes including the damn bottled water. I was not going to tip because what we are already totaled €79.00, which was a bit much for what we ate. The waiter was insistent that the charge is not going to him as tips but to taxes. Just because I was with my husband, he just dismissed it rather than making a scene. I was checking their rating after I had ordered and was so shocked at what I read.I wish we'd known earlier. TOURIST TRAP! We were hot and tired after our tour of the Vatican and this place looked fresh, bright, and inviting so we were relieved to sit down for some lunch. I asked several times for prices and how the "buffet" works exactly. The waitress never gave me a price for anything. She knew exactly what she was doing. The pasta was good, not great. The meatballs were not so good and the chicken was decent. Nothing was mind-blowing except the bill! I spent half as much for much better food the night before. They don't rush you and if you don't mind being over charged for mediocre food when there are much better options in Italy and if you enjoy getting hustled then this is that place. I would like to give this place five minus stars. After sitting down we saw all of the negative reviews and decided to watch out for the bill ripoff scam. We didn't need to wait as the ladies sitting behind us complained about their 20% overcharge on the bill. They refused to give us a menu, and somehow reassured us into ordering pasta and sitting down anyway. I ordered a side salad for myself only and they brought 10 euro salads for each of us. We were able to have the second salad removed from the bill, but we were still charged 80 euros for our two pastas. The small portions of pasta and meatballs were separately billed at 15 euros each and steep service charge was automatic. They also refused to serve us free tap water (which is illegal for restaurants that serve alcohol, and they serve alcohol). Our receipt was not an official receipt. And was not itemized at first it just said "mix and match- 35 euros" which doesn't make any sense. My first instinct was, how did I fall for that? Looking back, it's because they lied to us and deceived us. Their tactics are fraudulent and malicious. They're prices wouldn't make sense if they had a menu that they would give you upon request. Check your receipt!!!!! Our bill was considerably higher than it should have been. Our receipt showed €25 for a dish that was only €14 on the menu. Our drinks were double what was advertised (listed as €2.50 but billed €5 each). We complained but the waiter tried to say that we were remembering the prices wrong. We asked for a copy of the menu and then went through the bill item by item. He did eventually adjust the receipt but it took us making a fuss in English and Italian. At this point, I could either try to make a scene with these folks who clearly were indecent or just pay and hope to resolve with my credit card company through some form of consumer protection.
