Absolutely adored this caffe in the Prati neighborhood near to the Vatican! Opened in 1919, they have a unique (and secret) blend of coffee that's to die for. Sat on the patio and just enjoyed people watching, a welcome respite after the Vatican crowds. We popped by in the afternoon for an espresso (with chocolate as suggested by our server) and it was incredible. It was around 4 in the afternoon so it wasn't busy as it's between lunch and aperitivo. read more

ill start off by saying that I probably I didn't order the right things because this place has fabulous reviews. however, i'll be candid about my experience. it is such a cute coffee shop with great outdoor seating and a beautiful interior. the servers were very friendly despite me not speaking any italian. this place definitely receives less american tourists and feels a bit more local (did hear other european languages being spoken though, so still tourists). the reason why it gets 3 stars is because the pastries were stale and at least a day old, and we were not fans of the coffee. the latter is probably user error as we should have opted for a straight espresso or cappuccino, but I think fresh pastries are a mark of a good coffee shop and that was lacking. may come back to give this place a second chance though and order based on other people's reviews read more

Walked 15 minutes for this spot because the pistachio maritozzi looked really good and so were the reviews. I asked and showed a picture for a maritozzi with pistachios and they gave me this. This was just bread with whipped cream. Wasn't even the right cream. Walked back to my hotel and whipped cream was all over my bag. Wrapped it up so I couldn't see it. After a morning well spent in the Vatican, we found ourselves wandering around Prati. I wanted to stop in for a quick caffe and some time off my feet. Yelp to the rescue! This is a great neighborhood cafe not infested with (many) tourists. The coffee was good and strong, striking the right balance of flavor. They also have bite-sized bites of bombolonis, cassata, and other traditional Italian desserts. Great coffee, full bar, and great bites - and at great prices. I initially found Sciascia Caffe while looking for a caffe that opened early in the mornings and within the area that I was staying in. My first time at the caffee I was able to enjoy early morning, empty and quiet streets in Roma beforehand. Upon entering Sciascia I immediately noticed how many locals frequent the caffee. I took a look around and grabbed a menu to place an order. You will want to place an order first at the register, take your receipt to the counter, and wait for the lovely staff to complete your order. After now visiting Sciascia many times I've noticed that the locals will quickly down their espresso and isn't in the caffee for more than 5-10 mins max. It is a great place for people watching and I always snag my little table in the corner each time. I've ordered the same two items each time and I have not been disappointed -- chocolate cappuccino with a ham and cheese croissant. I am not a fan of sandwiches so to my surprise I was thrilled when I fell in love with this simple yet oh so delicious sandwich! I always frequent Sciascia in the mornings so this is a nice breakfast substitute esp after being slightly toasted. I highly recommend this caffee as it makes me feel less like a tourist and more like an Italian. read more

What an experience! I entered and breezed past what looked like a shop counter. In the back, you'll find a classic coffee bar. I ordered my cappuccino from an impeccably dressed barista and then added on a pain au chocolat since they looked dope as well. The barista served my drink on the counter, and I readied to pay... except she never turned around. Eventually, I just took my coffee to the standing counter and drank it. But then how to pay? I didn't even have a receipt! I put my dishes back and said grazie, but still no receipt. So, I walked back to the shop counter area and paid. That part was weird. I'm pretty sure I could have walked right out. It was also total honor system for me telling them what I ordered. I do think some people prepaid but not all of them, so you might want to prepay if you know what you want. read more

I hate mediocre anything, so I looked up best cappuccino in Rome, & what I found was a list done by none other than CNN (The 15 Best Coffee Bars in Rome, CNN Travel, 7/12/17). This caffe was on that list. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, this was a delight from start to finish. I had been told that Italians never drink cappuccino after 11:00 AM; it's considered to be a breakfast drink. So, not wanting to scream "I'm a tourist," I abided by this rule. This caffe is classic. It's elegant & streamlined. The caffe itself is small, with an entry "shop" where the cashier is, that sells gourmet things...chocolates, etc. The whole experience was old-worldly. The croissants looked amazing, & they were. The cappuccino was poetically good. Service was outstanding. A real neighborhood spot. Patrons came in w their dogs. The dapper baristas knew their names. The is definitely one of the better cafes we visited in Rome. Service here is excellent as we were quickly tended to. Our group of 4 ordered prosciutto and cheese cornetto, pistachio cornetto, some sort of cream filled donut (I forget the name), and of course some cappuccinos and espressos. Out of everything, I would definitely come back for a prosciutto and cheese cornetto with a cup of cappuccino or espresso. Their cappuccino is excellent with a great foam cap and the espresso used was rich and smooth. The inside was quite busy on a Monday morning with a lot of hustle and bustle but definitely settled down a bit later on. I'd come back again. read more

I went to have a ristretto (short) espresso. It's semi chaotic while bustling with blue collar construction workers, students, touristas, men and women in business attire, etc. I ordered a "caffe espresso" and was served a thick and rich short pour. I was in heaven. I later came back for another espresso and bought a 2# bag of beans which I am sadly finishing off. Order at the cashier and then go in to the back and show your slip to the barista. Have your coffee rubbing elbows with others there at the bar. Take in the well oiled machinations of baristas and servers preparing perfect ristretto, cappuccino or whatever other coffee drink you fancy. When I specified ristretto to the barista he eyed me suspiciously as if I didn't know what I was doing. I knew exactly what i was doing. You can order a sacrilegious Americano but be prepared for a dirty look and/or eye roll! If you choose to sit outside you'll miss the show and pay more for your drinks. This is a fun place for a true coffee lover. I highly recommend the espresso and the beans. read more

This is a nice cafe recommended to us by our friend here in roma. He told us about their chocolate coffee and described it as heavenly. So needless to say we came here the next day. I stayed in a hotel down the street from this caffe and i'm so sad I didn't try it sooner!! You pay in front (if there's someone at the cash register) and then take your receipt and walk towards the bar in the back, give it to a free barista and then take your drink. ORDER THE GRAN CAPPUCCINO EXCELLENTE. 2 shots of espresso, mocha sauce, some milk, whip cream and chocolate chips... its absolutely heavenly. I went there in the morning and wanted to return for another cup! My sister isn't a huge coffee drinker and she loved it as well. A regular cappuccino was 1.5 euros I think, and the gran cappuccino excellente was 3 euros. One of the best coffee spots in Rome, definitely the best in Prati. As a rule of thumb, if you pay more than 1 euro for coffee, it's not good. A coffee is .90 Euro (perfect). Guy's behind the bar are professional, polite, and fast. They make the best Caffe Freddo I've ever had, ever. I frequent Sciascia every day after class and it's spot on every time. If you go to Sciascia, just be prepared because your Starbucks will never cut it ever again. read more
