The food was great ! I had the chicken breast sandwich. Good atmosphere . The service was sub par but I chalked it up to them getting busy shortly after we came in.

As a…read morebiracial family, feeling welcomed and respected is important, and the staff set a positive tone from the moment we walked in. We were a party of five. The only drawback was the table size. It felt a bit tight for five people once the drinks and plates started filling the space. Aside from that, the restaurant was clean, including the bathrooms, which is always appreciated. Our server was prompt and attentive. She quickly took our drink orders and returned shortly after with them, then took our food order without delay. The kitchen moved efficiently, and our meals arrived fairly quickly. Dinner came with one basket of bread and butter, with additional baskets available for an extra charge. We also ordered three desserts, which were decent and a nice way to end the meal. As for the food, the lamb stood out and was very good. The steaks were solid and well prepared. The chicken Alfredo was a bit too heavy on the cheese, making the sauce thicker than expected. The mushroom ravioli with beef delivered strong mushroom flavor, definitely generous on that front. For five people, including three desserts, our total bill came to $246. Overall, it was a good experience with attentive service and mostly enjoyable food.

The menu is a perfect blend of selections that aren't something you can get anywhere but at a fine dining establishment. It is pricey but a wonderful dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere. The waitstaff and bartenders were very hospitable and knew everyone that came in. We were not regulars and were treated as if we were. The prime rib was a common plate at our table, rave reviews. I had the lamb shank, and was the best I'd had. It was so tender and delicious. Lamb chops were also recommended and the reviews from our party were very positive. You can come in jeans, shorts or more formal if you want. I don't recommend dressing to the T as it is quite relaxed. You won't be disappointed.

After numerous friends telling me " You have to eat at Walloon Inn you would love it, the food is…read moregreat and of course the view across the lake is spectacular ". Well I couldn't get a reservation in the fall so my girlfriend and I tried again while taking a ski trip to Boyne Mountain . Yes, The location and ambiance is fabulous . We were graciously greeted and sat at table # 1 right by the windows looking out to the frozen lake truly a great table. Our waitress Janice a local greeted us and was very nice. Janice did a great job going through the menu which I will added the prices were very fare . The wine and cocktail list were also impressive with a wide offering in price and choice. We decided on a Malbec to start. Then they brought out a the welcoming taste of salmon pate on a cucumber which we both found to be very tasty . After reviewing the menu we chose to bypass an appetizer for fear of just getting too much food and not finishing our dinner . After I told my girlfriend how good whitefish is in Michigan we both ordered that instead of the salmon or short ribs that also looked enticing. . Before our entree was served we had the warm bread and garlic butter that was terrific and tempting to eat the whole basket . Our dinners were served very quickly even though the restaurant was sold out . As we took the first bites of the white fish I was extremely disappointed . The breading had absolutely zero seasoning or flavor . The fish was flaky and cooked perfectly but the breading was completely flavorless taking away from the fish. Neither of us finished the dish and my girlfriend tried adding salt just to get some flavor but it didn't make it any better . I was going to order dessert but we were so disappointed after our dinner we chose to bypass dessert . . I did order a coffee since they didn't have cappuccino. I will say the coffee was very good , but what good restaurant doesn't have a cappuccino machine . As a side note the bathroom very nicely decorated in old wine box shingles on the wall and was very clean . I gave 3 stars simply because the Walloon Inn has been around so long and highly acclaimed as one of the better restaurants in the area. This was very disappointing . I may come back with my business partner and hope my experience will be better . Until next time .

(If you're obsessed with Hemingway, this station is where he & his family would catch the train to Petoskey on their way to Walloon.) Despite the heavy wood and library-like interior, the space is light and bright in the evening before the sun goes down. Summerers abound here -- everyone who comes in knows just about everyone else. The food is certainly some of the best in the area. The chef (formerly the Crow's Nest chef/owner) makes the best perch in northern Michigan. Crab cakes could have used slightly less breading and my martini could have used a little more vermouth. Overall, the menu is more creative than usual in this part of the world -- there's ceviche and grilled artichokes and oysters and pheasant but no whitefish, for example, which is a total relief. Every restaurant in town serves the same (delicious, but boring) planked whitefish. The service is warm and cheerful and attentive. This is a well-trained, seasoned staff who know about the food they're serving and do everything possible to make you happy. Thanks, staff!
