I also got a breakfast sandwich on a brioche bun with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and a Sriracha mayo, and both sandwiches came with a side of homefries that were so crispy and seasoned to perfection! Here's a list of red flags: -Hidden Fees for Credit Cards -Can't split a check -22% non optional gratuity included (but wasn't mentioned or listed) and then our waitress asked for another tip on top of that. -Some dishes weren't served as listed on the menu. There are so many unique and drool-worthy dishes to choose from, we just knew had to get in there! My husband and I stopped in for brunch on a recent getaway to The Highlands, already knowing what we wanted to order. I proudly devoured the massive "This Is How We Roll" sandwich-- a symphony of bacon, eggs, and cheese on a frosted cinnamon roll. Simple, yet perfectly balanced with flavorful notes of salty & sweet! I'm already craving another! Hubbs ordered the "Rise & Shine," which featured herbed eggs, melted cheddar, caramelized onions, and sriracha aioli on a grilled brioche bun. Both came with savory breakfast potatoes and both of us cleaned our plates, leaving with full, happy bellies! The restaurant is small, quaint and filled with interesting artwork, furniture, and collectibles found by the owner while on her many travels over the years. Super cool and cozy! This place is your favorite place to be / eat until food is sent back. We were regulars here and we were always so happy with our food. I get the same thing every time. The dish has eggs on it. I've NEVER been asked how I want them cooked, and they've always come perfect. Last weekend I was served a set of raw eggs. Having been in the service industry for more than a decade after high school and while I put myself through college, I tried to scoot them off the dish and eat the rest so as to avoid sending the dish back. After a few bites I can see that the raw egg is in the rest of my dish. When I say raw, I mean clear, because when you crack an egg before it's cooked, it's clear. That's what the top of my eggs were. Completely clear. So I sent the dish back and they removed it from the table. I asked for the replacement dish to go because we'd already been there an hour. As we waited, the whole staff was glared at me. The Cooks from the kitchen opened the curtains to look at me. It was extremely uncomfortable. At $25 a dish, you'd hope you could ask for it to be cooked to satisfaction. They brought the to go box out after 30 minutes, and on the bill I was charged for two dishes plus my boyfriend's ($95 for one orange juice and three dishes, we only ordered two). I asked the manager why I was charged for two dishes when I had sent mine back. She argued that my eggs were cooked and that I ate half of it. I was in the bathroom nauseous from the snot like egg that was over top of my dish. I told her that I'd cut it up but I had only had a few bites. She argued and at that point I knew nothing I said would matter. They'd taken the plate so I couldn't point it out again and unfortunately I'd missed my opportunity to take a picture. I would never in a million years treat a customer the way I was treated, especially one that returned often to spend money (a lot of it, we have a family of four but just us two went this day). I didn't order two dishes, and if they were expecting me to pay for the meal that was "cooked", why was it removed from my table? Why would I have someone take a dish I was going to pay $25 for and throw it away? Because the eggs were raw and nobody wanted to make it right, they just made the whole situation uncomfortable and made me feel like I was there trying to get free food out of them. I told her to take the to go box back, I was not paying for two dishes as one person. She said fine, took the bill, and took $10 off (so we paid $15 for a meal we didn't take and $25 for an undercooked plate they removed from my table). My boyfriend just paid it. When I left upset, she said, "wow, temper tantrum!" Long story short, if your food comes undercooked you'd better just eat it or you'll be made to feel extremely uncomfortable, charged for their mistakes, and ridiculed as you leave the establishment because they'll take it as a hit to their egos. We won't be back, and that's a huge bummer! ****EDIT TO MY REVIEW AFTER THE OWNER'S DISGUSTING COMMENT**** I did not eat 3/4 of the food. When we were there you said I ate half, now it's 3/4 lmao which is it, BABE?!? Ohhh nevermind it's just you not taking accountability...lol the server actually didn't come to the table once after our food was served (not even to swipe the card), the hostess did and that's who I sent the plate back with. I didn't demand anything, I never said anything to anybody about other people's food coming up before my replacement dish...lol the owner will clearly lie and say whatever they want to feel better about themselves and make it look like they treat their customers great, but you can see from the nasty responses to unsatisfied customers on YELP that they're petty. SORRY BABE! Your ugliness shows through in the way you treat people. Hopefully you love yourself one day and can do better. YOU LIE, AND YOU'RE PETTY! I've been here now 3-4 times and every time has been different. The very first time a few years ago was very nice and the food was great. The second time I came here, the food literally made me sick and came out of me about 30 minutes after eating it... I ate here this morning and my sister and her boyfriend went to put our name in (4 of us total). We were seated about 35 minutes after they put our name in, but they stood there for about 15 minutes before anyone even came up to take their name. We were seated outside and our server was very nice but the service was extremely slow. We didn't even get ice waters until we'd been sitting for at least 20 minutes. Our food took absolutely forever to come out and my boyfriend didn't even get the correct dish that he ordered. And there was a hair in it... My sister's boyfriend's meal was also incorrect and contained corned beef even though it was supposed to be chicken. We were in a hurry and didn't take any pics of it and the waiter brought us to go boxes because we didn't think it was going to take almost 2 hours from the time we put our name in to the time we got our check. My meal was very mid...not worth the price. Kind of a shame about this place because it has potential. The inside is super cute though and a great location. We love coming here every year. Pro tip: come early, this is a small venue and it fills up quickly. They had indoor/ outdoor seating, but we opted to wait an hour for the indoor seating. Cute decor and they had fun decorations for Halloween. The menu is inventive with its cuisine. The Piggy Bank captivated me with its beer cheese hollandaise sauce and the roasted colorful carrots with a spiced fruit that went quite well with the pork. Though expensive, the portions we ordered were large. The flavors were delicious, however one of my eggs was a bit overdone as well as my pork. However, I'd rather have it overdone than underdone especially when it comes to pork. My husband pointed out that many of the dishes we ordered, the OMG hash and Piggy Bank, were almost like a dinner entree with eggs. I think if we knew about the portion size we might've sprung for the $5 split plate charge. One of our kids had toast, and the other had a side of bacon, scrambled eggs and toast (I don't think there is a children's menu). It was quite busy so no time for chit chat with the waitron. I was curious about the secret menu, but didn't have an opportune moment to learn more. Service was spotty, it seemed like they were understaffed. All in all, our two entrees, 2 sides of toast and side of egg, bacon, 2 coffees, and one hot chocolate came to $120 with tip. Six friends went for an early lunch. We had a pleasant time because we're good friends and enjoy each other's company. However, not receiving our meals in a timely fashion wasn't the worst part of our experience, neither was not having coffee refilled even after asking 3 times. No, what was the worst part of the experience was finding out that we were being charged $6 per person just to have the privilege of sitting at their table! They added a gratuity, which we had no problem with, even though there were only 6 of us. In our experience this is normally done for tables of 8 or more. Expect to wait a bit if you want to eat indoors. Not many tables. If the weather permits, there are more tables outside than in. Food is upscale, although they also serve the basics too, a la carte. Everything our group tried tasted great, with portions big enough that we all needed to-go boxes. Only suggestion is to maybe add some standards to the menu. OMG. The food here is AMAZING!! I had the Rise and Shine breakfast sandwich ($16), and I can't say enough great things about it...SO delicious!! The sriracha aioli on my sandwich was perfect seasoning, adding just the right of flavor to the herbed eggs, cheddar cheese and caramelized onions on my brioche bun. The potatoes that accompanied my sandwich were cooked to perfect crispness and garnished with the smallest, pointy, sweet, red tomatoes (San Marzano, maybe?). My freshly squeezed orange juice was an appropriate accompaniment to my meal and nicely portioned for its $8 price. Everything about this place is cute: The presentation of my sandwich was so cute...the sandwich was topped with a small tomato and held together with a wooden pick that had a bee on it. I couldn't wait to dive in once it arrived, so no pictures to share today (given that some others have already posted pictures of this sandwich, I don't feel bad about it). The entire meal was plated up on a pretty floral plate. The restaurant is in a cute house-shaped building, and the tables sprinkled across the porch and inside were all unique with different types of chairs and table decorations. We chose to sit out on an adjacent patio. Given the spectacular weather during our visit, the patio was a great spot to be. The menu had such unusual sandwich names (The Motherclucker,This is How We Roll, Cheesus, Oh My Cod!, etc) that my friend had to take a picture of the menu itself! A downside: Do note that the menu very specifically states "no separate checks please" and menu substitutions and shared plates ($5) would be up charged. When you're up in northern Michigan, finding a satisfying brunch spot is essential. On my recent visit, I turned to Yelp to find a spot and was led to Small Batch at the Cupola. Located in picturesque Harbor Springs, it offers sweeping views of Little Traverse Bay from a charming courtyard, with delicious and fresh food. We arrived just when the restaurant opened for the day, and were one of several parties ready for brunch. We were all able to be seated in the courtyard, and quickly took to perusing the menu. I settled on "Simple Simon" and sipped on my coffee as I waited. There was only one server that day, and service seemed very "to the point" and a bit rushed during our visit. I chalked it up to them being swamped for the morning rush. My Simple Simon hit the spot, with 2 over-easy eggs, ham, potatoes and small sweet peppers and a side of marbles rye. Even my partner in crime looked longingly at my meal and commented that they wished they had ordered that as their meal. They don't let you bring in an iced coffee from another restaurant so don't try lol. Prior to coming, I saw a response from the owner to a customers' bad experience that basically said "how better could I have helped you, by holding your hand? Feel better." That was very passive aggressive and rubbed me the wrong way, so I went in skeptical about service but I didn't see or interact with the owner, so I can't speak to that. Bottom line: my experience with staff was nothing but positive. The service was very reasonable speed for being small batch/from scratch. Everything was DELICIOUS, and tasted very fresh. We sat outside with our two dogs and our waitress brought us fresh water for our dogs. It seems like if you aren't going to mix it up with them, they're not going to mix it up with you? This is our favorite brunch spot in Northern Michigan. The baked goods are amazing, the ricotta pancakes and lobster clubs delicious and the service wonderful. Fresh squeezed OJ, artisanal teas, French roast... cookies, cakes, cupcakes, decorative focaccia (that looks as good as it tastes), eclectic pillows, throws, salt and pepper pairs and more. Amazing place to go for brunch. I have been to only three places to dine inside since Covid has hit and this was one of them and worth it. The place is small and cozy and the tables are in close proximity to one another but fortunately after our short wait, our small group got seated in the back room, which although a little cluttered, was perfect for our group and felt private and sheltered. Our group tried the coffee, orange juice, special land and sea omelet of the day that was amazing, the home fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned, the biscuits and gravy and the biscuit sandwich. All of the food was outstanding. Prices are reasonable especially considering the food that you get. There is a little bit of a wait usually for a table and for your food but it is all worth it.
