Ditto on what Mark M. says, but it's not that scary. Scary is the 7-Up bar over on Eastern/Castle. BAR looks and feels pretty grimy overall. No real need to give them your business when there's so many other awesome bars nearby, most of which are very low-key, if that's what you're looking for. Here's a little history on the place: http://www.fellspoint.us/digging-deeper/only-in-fells-point/203-ix-just-one-bar.html

I had a great time at BAR last night. Cheap drinks, unpretentious bartender, fun place. It's filling that Dive niche that so many pretend to like, but get worried if it isn't 60% tie wearing yuppies. Solid spot. I will be back!

So when you are slumming it in Fell's Point and looking for a place to just hang out, listen to great music and enjoy a cheap brew then this is the place. Does it look questionable from the outside, yep. Does it look questionable on the inside, yep. Does it have a TV that works, sort of? What do I define as great music, most rock or grunge from the 90s, RHCP, Rage, STP, Nirvana, Soundgarden and they got it and more. This place has character and the people you meet here are always unique. I swore the one night I was talking to Slash. The beer selection is not huge but the fact that I was served a Natty Light bomber bottle just blew my mind. Look there is no sugar coating this, it's a dive. But a great one. Give it a try and go with an open mind.

Is this place actually open? What are the hours? I live in fells point and have been trying to go here for the last few months with no luck. I like live bars, don't judge me.

Cheap old-ass pool table in the back, bomber bottles, Natty Boh cans, and mass market suds on tap in the front.

From calling us "dicks" walking in, to insulting us while drinking, to urging us for zero tip due to her terrible attitude, what a time. The fact this bar lets her represent them is telling enough. No wonder this place was empty when everywhere else in Fells was packed says it all. Avoid this place at all costs if Justine is there. And don't dare call her Jessica on accident. She gives ZERO cares about anything at all.

Maybe I take Yelp too seriously. But it's a bummer when I see a review that praises the food, service and decor then rates 3 stars. (To re-use my joke, "3 out of 5 on Yelp isn't good, it isn't a work performance review). I have struggled with my Duda's review since August since I would strongly recommend it but I'm also price-cautious. To make matters worse I don't remember the exact crab market price but it was possibly $31 or $32 for one and low $50s for two (fact-checkers welcome). The crab cake was superb. All killer, no filler. The potato salad was very good. While I didn't love the price/volume I can't claim expertise on market prices and If you look at the drink prices this is clearly not a ripoff place. Possibly it's a better deal if you're with a group and can split some apps. In line with my slow education that Baltimore has more than the Inner Harbor, Duda's had a spectacular sense of place. It was a rare experience in feeling like a true locals place that is friendly to tourists. There's no record scratch and "you ain't from around here." The waiter was excellent and was impressively emphatic about the crab cakes.

The bartender Ally, was incredibly friendly and helpful. At the door, they checked IDs and explained the whole way to sample the many beers with some notecards for writing down the corresponding number and the size for each beer, and a little space to take some notes on what we thought of each. It seems like they regularly have a lot of beers on tap anyway, but they do have several beer fests throughout the year (Hopfest is in August!) with over 60 offerings of a particular style of brew. And even if you want to come in and want a different style, they still have plenty of those to try as well. We got some food to go with all that beer - the Tater platter was solid bar food with tots, cheese, and bacon. Would get again. Likewise, they run a hot dog special when the Orioles are playing and you can get a hot dog for cheap. Ample seating at the bar and surrounding tables. Bathroom was clean. The bartenders took food and drink orders and different carriers bring food to you. They move quick and are friendly. Prices are fair.

Two ciders ran us about $20, which felt reasonable for the setting and quality. We stopped in twice because we really wanted to try the bacon-wrapped goat cheese jalapeño poppers. The first time we weren't hungry enough, so we made a point to come back later and I'm glad we did. They were excellent. Not a huge portion, but it's an appetizer and felt appropriate. They were rich and well balanced, definitely a fork-and-knife situation, and worth the ~$14. The atmosphere is a big part of the appeal here. Tons of dark wood, historic character, and that old-Baltimore charm that makes you feel like the place has stories. It's warm and inviting.
