I've been buying shoes from this store for years and been waited on by the owner and his occasional staff person. They have always been helpful and friendly and pleasantly talkative. Jennie's sells high quality shoes that last for years if rotated with other pairs of shoes. They also sell Thorlos hiking socks which are extremely comfortable and pretty much all I wear on my feet. My friend introduced me to them years ago and now I don't want any other kind of sock. They last and last. I"m just "Keen" on Jennie's Shoe's. There aren't many places like this left and sadly when the owner retires the store might as well. Let's hope someone steps up and keeps it going. Downtown Coos Bay needs this store.

When I came into the store, I was greeted warmly and professionally by the two lovely ladies working on the floor. I browsed through the many options available, but wasn't sure what to look for as a comfortable, durable option to use through long work hours standing in place. I wish I would have gotten the sales associate's name, she was so knowledgeable and truly helpful. She educated me about a properly fitting shoe, what specifically about the components of the shoe would help my biomechanics to relieve my low back pain, and really made me feel like she cared a lot more about teaching me what I need rather than selling me a product. Not only did she end up finding me an excellent shoe in my budget, but I even found another few pairs that I can't wait to go back for as soon as I can afford to do so. This is my first real "grown up" nice pair of work shoes (Danskos) and she made the whole process so much less intimidating by explaining everything to me in detail, including how to properly put on/take off and cycle out shoes to keep them in peak condition for longer. I felt like she was genuinely trying to make sure I had the best understanding possible of what would be the top choice for my specific needs and body rather than trying to make a sale or steer me towards the pricier options on the floor. I always love supporting a local family owned business, but Jennie's makes it an incredibly easy choice to keep coming back to a place with extraordinary service, reasonable pricing, expertise in their field, and layaway options to work for any budget. I will be happily recommending this business to anyone who is in the market for new shoes, insoles, socks, or anyone who (like me) was woefully uninformed of what goes into the process of choosing footwear that suits your anatomy and activity. We went to the Big Five store there on Saturday, 10/25/2025 with the intention to buy an Everlast…read more100lb heavy boxing bag, an Everlast speed bag, and the Everlast stand for those two bags. We also intended to buy some other things. These items totaled over $300.00 that we were going to spend that day. When we asked about the boxing bags and stand we were referred to a young man that was in that department. The first thing he said was that his leg hurt, and he was having a bad day. We saw sales tags on the bag and stand, but the tag was on the wrong bag. He didn't seem to know which bag was on sale, so we showed him an ad, and found the right bag. We then asked about the stand which had a sales tag on it for $144.49 but he said it was $150.00. When we asked why 150.00 instead of 144.99 he flew into a rage, and said in a very very loud voice: Jesus Christ, I only a rounded up a penny (not recognizing that it was a difference of over $5.00 not one penny) Then he turned around, and stomped off, not speaking to us anymore. We called out after him, (and I know he heard us) but he wouldn't acknowledge us. We then went up to the checkout desk and told them what happened, and asked to speak to a manager, They said the person we talked to was a department manager, but they would have the store manager contact us when he came in the next day. They also said that the person who helped us seems to have bad days every day, and there had been previous complaints about him. The store manager still has not called back. We have called the store three days in a row now, and the store manager still has not contacted us. We just get the the promise that he was looking into it, and would call us back. We find this totally unacceptable, as we have been loyal customers since this store branch opened years ago, but no more.

These guys are awesome. We went with the bottom-fish package (depends mostly on season/who else…read morewants to go for different fish types - this one seemed to be the most common). You meet at 6am and fish until around 11-12. It's a family run business, everyone is great and really friendly / happy to give information for those who are new (like we were). Also lots of seasoned guys seem to go as well. Law says you can catch 7 bottom fish and 2 salmon, and you'll probably get to the 7 bottom fish, although salmon you need to get lucky unless you go on the salmon-boat. After fishing, there's some guys who will fillet all the fish you caught for $.50/ea. Then back at the shop they can vaccum seal the fillets if you want to freeze them for $1/bag (as many as you want in a bag). Anyway, all in all, great trip and good people. The only thing I'll add is prepare for sea-sickness if you get noxious easily... and take dramamine the night before and probably the morning before too.

The next year we booked a couple of charters (the bottom fish and the long leader ) with Prowler charters based mostly on the reasonable price compared to other charters in the area and they did not disappoint! It is family owned and run from the office to the ocean and they are helpful and happy to help. Our whole family have been on 3 bottom fish / long leader trips since and caught our limit every time. This week my son and I went out on the tuna trip which was a long day as you have to go out really far to hit the hot spots but, man it was worth it! Captain Wayne navigated the area like a champ and we were hitting multiple fish... up to 7 fish on at a to time more than once and I gotta say the chaos ran like clock work with the 'tuna system' they have going and everyone was involved in the team effort following the lead of the crew! Probably the best day fishing of my life... we packed it in after landing 102 big tuna on board! We will be back, you can count on that!
