From the start, his attitude was arrogant and dismissive. Instead of providing clear guidance, he treated us as if we were ignorant and wasting his time. What made it worse is that we had just come off a flight of nearly five hours. Anyone working in airport car rentals should understand that customers are arriving from long journeys and need to feel welcomed, respected, and at ease not belittled. This agent failed completely in that regard. For a role that is all about customer service and first impressions, his behavior was unacceptable. He showed no patience, no respect, and certainly no professionalism. It left us with the feeling that he should not be working in a customer-facing position at all.

We have never rented from Payless in the past because I was worried about all…read morethe bad reviews. however, after we showed up to Hertz at O'Hare at 6am after a redeye flight with our small kids, tired and not eager to drive another 4 hours, things got worse when Hertz told us our rental was canceled for some reason (it showed I checked in fine so the only thing I could assume is the rude attendant gave away our holiday weekend rental). The hertz attendant that day was not willing to listen or help sort it out and instead told me to call a national number. We walked over to Payless which had no line unlike all the other companies. Gill helped us immediately and was very friendly. He found us a rental immediatel, gave us an airline discount that matched the Hertz price, and even upgraded us. Very happy with our experience and that Gill made a stressful situation much better very quickly!

I read the reviews for this place...unfortunately it was after I had already reserved my car…read morerental. I got to the place just a few minutes (less than 5 minutes) before my reservation time and normally that's not an issue, but here apparently it is. The car wasn't even at the place. Someone had to go to the car repair shop by Uber and then drive back with the car. Then of course the car had to get cleaned. The car wasn't ready until about 45 minutes after my reservation time. The woman at the front was nice, but it still was not a pleasant experience. The garage where the car was was flooded (I assume from the cleaning) and I had to bring my bags through there while trying to not get soaked. Recommendation: find a different place to rent your car from.

Once we arrived at home we realized our Guitar was missing and remembered we left it in the compartment above the drivers seat. We called and were told that the van was rented to someone else already and they would do what they can to contact the new renter and see if they find the guitar. We were sure it was gone and moved on. Yesterday afternoon 9/01, we got a call that the guitar was found and we can go pick it up!!!! The employees went above and beyond to get our item back to us and we appreciate that so much. It was so much easier to say the van was rented out and call it a day. But they actually did what they said they would do and we appreciate it! We tried to give the employees cash in appreciation of thier work and they refused the cash and said it was them doing thier job. Great customer service! Thanks Guys!!!!!

By Far one of the Worst Experience with this Company! Okay So Nov 28 (sat thanksgiving weekend)my…read moreparked car in Front of my home got rear ended by one of their rental car(2016 jeep wrangler) The driver who apparently was not an authorized driver of this car tried to to a hit and run ! That is already breaking a contract when a rental car is signed by someone to being the only key holder. Correct okay So Keep in mind my car is in front of my house so of course my parents are awaken from a big loud noise outside it is around 2 a.m so when my parents look out the window they realize they had hit my Car, so as soon as they see they went ahead and woke me up and tell me that the car that just hit my car was outside ! that's when i must of raced out my house to go see what had happened so when i got out and started walking towards the jeep that had just rear ended my car was still in the corner, and slowly tried to drive away so that when i had to road rage chase him, I'm beeping beeping trying to have the driver pull over that's when he rolled down his window and He pretty much looked either drunk or drugged african american man prolly in 30's and a Female passenger which apparently to elco since the key holder being a female was not driving they wont pay for the damages on my car ? Anywho so we exchanged words by a stop sigh and that's when i tell him do you realize what you just did are paying for my car damages ? And he goes what? Whatt ? Alright pullover and so i did & but clearly his not in his right mind so this man wants to go head and drive off, so I literally drove after him for a block , that's when i was trying to get a clear picture of his license plate so that said this guy is not giving up and i had to just stop going after them. That's when i called Chicago police and made a hit and run report 30 mins later and of course the jeep wrangler bumper still by the accident scene and when they searched the car plate # it ended to enterprise Rent a Car rental (lombard), so i get a hold of the rental place i get send to elco to submit a claim which i stated what had happened and after 3 days they get a hold of the renter ? Rlly she stated she was not involved in any accident and when she saw her car sat it was already like that and she claims she was the only access to the car keys, So is this ignorant lady is denying the hit and run and also breaking contract with the rental place for having that male drive the rental ofcourse she already deep in hole so all she can do is lie now, They are so lucky they weren't caught by police that night because ohh boy would of been sleeping real warm in a jail cell ! They don't leave me no choice to sue this lady now She's about to have the run of her life, it is not okay it would be so easy to just admit the truth and have consequences for your actions grown as people karma rem that ! & elco if i can sue you as well i will because you aren't dumb of course regardless your cars get fixed right away ! & your so smart in order to not get my car fixed which happened with their rental regardless of who was driving it, they will go head and take the rentals side even if you clearly have proof just for them to pocket their money ! Cheap as company not taking responsibility for their drivers actions. How can they have such dumb work ethic people doing claims or accident investigation when clearly all the evidence is on their faces. Ignorants most horrible company ever dealt with !

Out of all the car rental services I have used, I like Getaround the best for short trips (less…read morethan 1 day). I've used Turo, traditional car rental companies (Hertz, Enterprise, etc.), and Zipcar. I think Truo and traditional rental companies are built more for longer term rentals and Zipcar is the most comparable. The hourly rates for Getaround are fairly reasonable, much better than Zipcar, plus Getaround doesn't charge a monthly fee. However, there is a reason why Zipcar is so expensive: the cars are owned and maintained by the company instead of ordinary people. With Getaround, you're renting out other people's cars and so the company doesn't have full control over the vehicle. It is possible that you may book a car that looks pretty good in the listing but when you get it, it's kind of dirty or not what you expected because the owner doesn't clean/maintain it. That is not necessarily Getaround's fault. For me, I've accepted that this may happen (and it has before), but for the money I save by not using Zipcar, it's fine by me. I have used Getaround so much that I know which cars in my area are clean and well-maintained and I tend to stick to those. If you're not willing to take the risk that a car might not be in perfect condition, then I'd say you should be willing to pay a premium for that. I've had maybe 2 interactions with customer service and both have been very good. I once got automatically charged a lot for gas because the car is parked on a slope and that affected the fuel level recorded after I dropped the car back. I only drove 5 miles in a 22mpg car, but the fuel level recordings made it seem like I used nearly 10% of the gas. I got my money back after explaining to CS via email. Another time I dropped off the car and then when I got to my apartment 2 blocks away I realized I left something in the car. I was able to call a customer service rep via the app and they waited on the phone as I walked back to the car and helped me unlock the car to get the item and lock it back up. Based on all of my Getaround experiences so far I'd definitely recommend it if you're a fairly flexible person with realistic expectations.

Crap cars and absolutely NO way to retrieve or contact the owner after you lock the car if you left…read morean item. They should at least provide you 1hr in case you did leave an item. INSTEAD their customer service (which is really non-existent) tells you--you need to rent the same car again for an hour--in the hopes your item may still be there..., SERIOUSLY. What BS. NEVER AGAIN.
