This shop has a customer for life. Fixed a snapped spark plug, replaced the rest, quickly and for a great price considering. Even things seen that could be a problem down the line was brought up cool, not like they were trying to apply pressure. I You won't be disappointed. Thanks again read more

Paul and team repaired my air conditioning and window controls at a reasonable cost. Paul was friendly, and I appreciate a local shop that was referred to me by another (good!) local shop, Minute Muffler and Service Center. read more

This is my go to for auto repairs. They won't tell you they can repair your car if it's something they don't normally do, and they will give you recommendations. When my car was under warranty I went to Toyota, if they recommended a service/repair other than general maintenance I take it to Bancroft. Rick and Paul have been servicing my cars and my sons for many years now. read more

I have been bringing my 2002 Honda Accord here for years. They have replaced my brakes, my timing belt, fixed the engine when the car went up in steam, along with general tune ups. They always do a great job at an extremely reasonable price. read more

Call them first always or be the first one there in the morning as they get packed with cars very quick. They are good with their services and they make sure your vehicle will be done at a good time and will tell you if parts are bad or not and what all was wrong sometime they even go out there way to do extra I love this about them. Very friendly and a solid reputable mechanic. read more

Once i heard a ticking sound coming from my air conditioner so i took my car to Bancroft Auto and had Paul listen to it. He said he knew what was wrong with it he took something pointed like a pencil reached in the duct where he heard the sound and took something out that was making the sound. There was no more noise after that. I'm going to tell you only a honest shop would do that. I know a friend who i send them to see Paul and Rick they installed a new engine for my friend said they never had to return for problems with the new engine and it been about four months now.Very good service in my book? read more

These guys are great. They have kept my 2001 civic running well for about the last 10 years. Prices are always on the lower end of the range. I would drive there when living in San Francisco as well as Davis, CA for repairs. read more

Paul and his team are the best. I live almost an hour away and never minded driving to Oakland to get all my car maintenance or major work done at their shop. Honesty, speedy turnaround, friendly, and reasonable rates are a few characteristics I'd use to describe the team. I've had my brake pads, struts, trunk release replaced, and regular oil changes done and have never been disappointed. I am happy to have discovered Bancroft CAR by my acquaintances and can confidently recommend Paul and his team to everyone else. read more

I have been going to Rick and Paul for decades! They are honest and the quality of service is superb!

I've been coming for Bancroft for years and they never disappoint. The guys are super nice and work very quickly. They are very thorough with their check-ups. I come get my oil changed here every few months and each time is quick and cheap ($15 because I bring my own oil). A few months ago, I came here to get my brake disks repaired- took a day, tops, and they even threw in some extra work. These guys could get mighty busy, so I would advise you call to give them a heads up that you're coming. But I have also just stopped by to see if they were free and they took care of me right away. If you need a new shop, come to these guys! They're great! read more

My favorite Merchanic in Oakland, very honest and I highly recommend to anyone that need their car fix. I came in for a BMW X3 starter and the first day I visit the shop my car started up just fine and Rick was so honest he call me while I was at work and said Hey Terry if there nothing wrong with your car I don't wanna charge you for work that doesn't need done. I over heated the engine on my CRV. Gave the shop a call. Gave me a great price with a fast turnaround. My CRV was ready in less than a week. The engine runs better than the original. I am very happy with the work. I will continue to bring my CRV here for any issues. read more

These folks are the best! They are fast, affordable, helpful and honest! They definitely aren't trying to sell you anything you don't need. Rick is the main guy and he's lovely. Highly recommended! read more

Good work and fast service. Great price and nice folks. Would come back again if i need more repairs

Great mechanics, trustworthy and reliable. Ricky and Paul have been repairing cars for my family for years and they (the mechanics and the cars) have never failed us. With simple oil changes they always give the machine a thorough look over and warn you about any problems they see, or any problems that could escalate. We recommended ricky to a friend traveling from LA who needed an oil change and they noticed that there was a small leak in her transmission. Ricky mentioned that it could turn into a serious problem, but the car was driveable, he quoted her how much longer and how many more miles she could drive safely and how much it would cost to fix, assuring her she could get back to LA safely. She did, and all his predictions were spot on, to the day, mile, and dollar. These guys are friendly, know their trade, and will take care of you. read more

I took my BMW Z3-3,0 there to get my oil changed and they replaced my ripped fuel filter (ouch!).. my fuel lines were all crimped and damaged.They. rebuild the box that holds it, fixed the hanger on my exhaust(and didn't make me pay for this!). My beemer gets a lot of beating and these people are just precious! They tell you the "damage" and don't try to get smart, they work hard and fast and their prices are just great!.. I am a student and make very little income right now - if I can afford this place than most of you could as well. Strongly, strongly recomend them! Will never take my little car anywhere else. read more

I have been going to Bancroft Auto for about 7 yr. off and on for minor things .About 6 months ago my car started running hot because of a busted hose I took my car to Bancroft Auto they were suppose to replace all hoses , so they claim my car was fixed it was ok until a month ago , it started running hot again. I then decided to take my car to Pep boys they said it was the water pump but they were charging too much so once again I tried Bancroft Auto ,I left my car there for one day then they called and said that its not running hot but they refused to do the work because the pressure was not reading right. I then took it back to Pep boys they said the reason why its taking so long to replace the water pump is because they did messed up patch work with silicone all over my hoses. So they did not want to put the water pump in because they didnt want to undo what they messed up in the first place. SO PLEASE DONT GET YOUR CAR FIXED THERE I COULD HAVE LOST MY CAR BECAUSE OF THEM BEING LAZY!!! read more

Bancroft Complete Auto Repair is top-notch. Rick and his crew keep my wife's BMW and my Honda running reliably, safely and economically. This shop replaced various parts over the years including alternators, two fuel pumps, brakes on both our vehicles. Most recently (today) they changed the oil and filter on my car, yet again, quickly and for a fair price. The staff is respectful and take the time to answer questions about other things going on with the car (for future repairs). Rick and the guys consitently go the extra mile to make sure we leave happy. I cannot recommend Bancroft Complete Auto Repair enough. My search for an auto repair shop ended the day I came to Bancroft Auto. I had purchased a new car in 2003 and gave my daughter the 93 Saturn, which was in decent condition. Well my daughter was not as into maintenance as I. To make a long story short, Midas kept advising for different types of repairs and would have kept us coming back. Took it to Bancroft Auto and asked how much would it be to get the car repaired. I believe it was Paul, he hung his head as a doctor would when delivering bad news, and then looked me in the eye and said the car was not worth the money it would take to repair it. My daughter had somehow blown a gasket. I appreciated the honesty and the integrity of that statement. Since moving, I am not as close to the business as I was before, but after some shady service near where I live, I am going to make the trip to get the quality service I know and trust. read more

Bancroft Complete Auto Repair is the real deal. Paul who is one of the two brother's who operate this small, but "mighty" car shop) are thorough, honest, they're going to tell you the truth, even if you don't want to hear it), and fast. Not to mention, they have extremely reasonable prices. In other words, they are not looking to get rich at your expense. And the quality of service is not compromised in the process. Who knew that such integrity -in a society that profits from greed, and being "lnauthentic" can not only exist, but thrive. Bancroft, in fact have many customers who have been patronizing Paul, and Rickey for years-- including me (I discovered them about 5 years), and have been coming every sense, Therefore, ladies, check "Bancroft Auto Repair" out, Paul (one of the owners) is a man of few words, but when he speaks-- listen. For that mechanic, knows what he's talking about! Thus, there is NO need to be reticent about taking your vehicle to this spot. Because, at this spot, you wont be ripped off, They Are Honest, what a concept! read more

Bancroft Complete Auto is always reliable. I have brought three different cars to them and each time the service is great and affordable.

I had a issue where my 1996 mazda millenia was shutting off unexpectedly, sometimes unable to turn back on. I had my car towed to this shop and they recommended all kinds of stuff that was supposed to fix the problem. I ended up getting my valve gasket cover replaced as well as a major tune up alongside some other things. I drove for about 2 blocks with peace of mind before my car shut off. Upon my swift return to the shop, the mechanic lifted my vehicle up, did some inspections and said it was the catalylic converter that was causing my car to shut off. I paid 650 and my problem was unsolved. Instead I supposedly got a tune up and some parts replaced. I took it to another rip off shop that I also reviewed on yelp. In the end neither shop fixed my problem. I found out later that it was the computer system in the car that went bad and was going to cost 1500 to replace. read more

I needed a shop close to home and found Bancroft a few months ago. I've had them do a simple brake pad replacement on my '85 RX7 as well as a brake pad and front strut/end links replacement on my 2008 Mazda3. I usually bring in the parts myself to save a few bucks, but their labor rates are really good which makes it worthwhile to take my cars there. Paul's a nice guy and they usually can get my car in right away. I like this place and glad it's within walking distance! read more
