Downtown Auto Repair, next to the gas station

I can't say enough good things about this place. I found them because I needed a shop that could smog my older car. Most smog stations can't smog older cars. During that smog visit, I mentioned to Juan that I have engine problems in one of my other cars. I told him I had already taken the car into a different repair shop and they had given me a very high estimate to fix a supposedly blown head gasket. Juan at Downtown Auto Repair suggested I bring the car in so they could look at it. What happened next was rather shocking. They did not find the specific engine problems that the other place had found. The other place told me the engine had a blown head gasket. Downtown Auto said it didn't have a blown head gasket! What!? Devin said the cooling system just needed to be flushed out and we should replace the thermostat that controls the cooling system. They then did that, at a fraction of what the other place would have charged me to rebuild the engine and the car now runs great and no longer overheats. I am so very grateful to Devin and Juan at Downtown Auto Repair for helping me with my car and fixing the problem for an affordable price. Devin even called me the next day to follow up. Who does that anymore? Like in the good old days! I am so impressed with these guys and will go back there for sure, should the need arise again. Don't hesitate to go to Downtown Auto Repair! I highly recommend this place! Very good service, excellent work and most reasonable prices. Needless to say I am super pleased! Devin and Juan saved my car! Thank you, Devin and Juan! My daughter drives this car most of the time and she is so happy the car is fixed! My daughters screamed with joy when I told them!

When I was trying to pre arrange to bring in my car to get checked on he wanted to have it there on his time and not mine. Once I agreed to his time and date he acted like he gave into what I needed he asked why I showed up that day and claimed he agreed to Monday. But I'm a very meticulous person I had Friday on my calendar he even made a comment for me to uber to work bc I said It would be an issue to bring on a work day and a non issue on my free day. When he finally got the part for my car he waited until I showed up to tell me the part didn't work out. So he left it in when I asked why he didn't simply communicate with me and put my old part back in he said it was too much or double the work. Then later proceeds to call me to say he needs the car back to take out the part and put my old part back because he needed to return the part. Very strange bc he could've saved both of us some time just doing it then and there. When I asked for my money back he said he was going to deduct 100$ for the "work" but I don't think it's just taking in consideration that my car was not fixed. He ordered another part and claimed it arrived broken so I'll just take it to Honda and pay whatever their fee is to get it done correctly. He also refused to give me any invoices / itemized receipt for the parts / work being done. Saying it would've been more to write it up in the shop meaning I don't know if I'm being charged accordingly or overcharged.

After I told him my make and model, he suggested I pick up a replacement headlight bulb just in case and told me to come in anytime--no appointment needed. When I arrived, he immediately came out, had me open the hood, and took a look on the spot. Within less than 3 minutes, he had the new bulb installed and working perfectly. What really stood out was what happened next--I asked how much I owed him, and he told me there was no charge. That level of honesty and kindness is rare these days. John didn't try to upsell me, didn't waste my time, and didn't treat a small job like it wasn't worth his attention. He handled it with professionalism, efficiency, and genuine care. Because of that, Doral Auto Repair has earned my trust. The next time I need any work done on my car, this is exactly where I'm going. Highly recommend.

Instead of receiving a quote, I got what appeared to be an automated response telling me to "come in." The message looked scripted and didn't address the request for pricing at all. After I replied again asking for the quote Yelp indicates businesses will provide, the same scripted response was essentially copied and pasted back to me. Only after pushing further did I receive what seemed like a more direct reply stating that their insurance does not allow customer-supplied parts due to liability concerns, followed by a note that they offer a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. That explanation would have been fine if it had been stated clearly from the beginning, instead of sending automated responses that avoided the actual request. Consumer Education: When repair shops purchase parts, they typically buy them at wholesale cost and then apply their own markup in addition to the shop's labor rate. There's nothing inherently wrong with making a profit--every business should. However, when customers ask for a quote while supplying their own parts, it can reduce that margin. Based on more than 20 years in automotive retail management and sales, my personal conclusion is that some shops simply prefer not to quote jobs where their parts markup isn't included. The bigger issue here is the Yelp listing itself. Yelp allows customers to input the vehicle, describe the work needed, and press "Get a Quote." If a shop isn't willing to provide quotes--or only wants customers to come in--then that option probably shouldn't appear on their listing, because it creates a misleading expectation for consumers trying to comparison shop first.

I called 2 days on a row, trying to get information on some new tires I didn't see on their website. I wanted to know if they could order them, and, if not, what would be a comparable tire. If they didn't have it, fine. But, the lady told me she would pass my information along to somebody to call me back. Nobody ever did. I called back later that day - about 3 hours later. I think a simple callback could be done within that span of time. Same thing. I guess she couldn't find it if they could order them. I called back the next day. Early. I have them all day, and still nothing. That was yesterday. So, here I am today at 9:20am sitting in the lobby of America's Tire, who gave me a same day appointment, explained the tire difference on the tire in getting (same brand, but different model), and will have me out in about an hour. Pep Boys, you didn't lose my business. But, you're only going to get the lifetime free services I get when I bring it in for an oil change.
