It was my first time in the shop and Miguel, hands down, was very professional. He greeted me when I stepped in. I came in because my car was making a loud scratching noise from the front wheel. Miguel took his time checking every break before focusing on the one that was making the noise. He found the problem and fixed it. He also mentioned how much time I had left on my breaks, as well as how much I needed tires (yes, it has been a while since I purchased tires). I've been a loyal customer of this store for going on 10+years. I've never had a real problem. I have the lifetime alignment, balancing, and rotation, so, yeah .... I'll be back until I get a new car. Lol But, my recent experience has me questioning that, as they no longer offer lifetime services. I called 2 days on a row, trying to get information on some new tires I didn't see on their website. I wanted to know if they could order them, and, if not, what would be a comparable tire. If they didn't have it, fine. But, the lady told me she would pass my information along to somebody to call me back. Nobody ever did. I called back later that day - about 3 hours later. I think a simple callback could be done within that span of time. Same thing. I guess she couldn't find it if they could order them. I called back the next day. Early. I have them all day, and still nothing. That was yesterday. So, here I am today at 9:20am sitting in the lobby of America's Tire, who gave me a same day appointment, explained the tire difference on the tire in getting (same brand, but different model), and will have me out in about an hour. Pep Boys, you didn't lose my business. But, you're only going to get the lifetime free services I get when I bring it in for an oil change. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place is poorly mismanaged and clearly has a problem with the concept of an appointment. I have been here three times for an oil change and each time I had an appointment. Every time the wait time was 2-4 hours for an OIL CHANGE. This last time was the final straw. I arrived on Sunday, July 26th for my scheduled appointment at 11am. The front-desk employee told me it would be a 2.5-3 hour wait because they only had one technician. I asked what's the point of an appointment when the wait time is so long and he said they only do appointments. I said I would wait in the area as I had came from SF and had no other option. After 3.5 hours, I returned assuming my oil change was done. There was no one in the lobby to assist the line and I had to go into the maintenance bay to find an employee to assist. When the same front-desk employee came in he told me they hadn't even started working on my car because there was an issue with the appointment before me, they needed a part, and couldn't get the previous appointment off the lift until the part arrived. Mind you, they had other lifts they could have put my car on for an oil change which should take 30-45 mins at most. What was the mechanic doing while he was waiting for the part? Clearly not working on my car when I was the next appointment and again, they don't take walk-ins. Did I receive any call or notice that there was going to be a delay? No. A rational person would have called instead of wasting my time. And to make matters worse, the front-desk employee estimated it would take another 1-1.5 hours for my oil change (since the alleged part had arrived for the other car). A 5-hour wait for an oil change demonstrates gross incompetence and mismanagement. I left without my car being serviced after Pep Boys wasted my time. This place has a horrible business model and clearly they dont understand that an appointment means you show up, they work on your car at the time that you have your appointment, and you leave. I will NEVER be returning and I urge anyone who reads this to avoid this location at all costs unless you want to leave your car for hours on end. This location is a joke. read more

I went in for new tires and I received them, thank you. However, after I left the shop, I quickly realized that my tire pressure sensor was not reading. I called the store, he said drive it for a few miles, which I did and still nothing. it's been maybe a little over a month and it's still not working. I made an appointment and got confirmation for an oil change for 0930hrs Saturday, 06 June 2026. I arrived on time to an empty reception. I waited for a while, until I felt compelled to open the door to the work area to ask if someone could help me check in. The person that came told me that they were only taking in drop-offs. I said I had specified that I was going to wait on vehicle. At first, he said that I had no appointment. But, after diddling on his computer, said that they had sent a text to my number informing that they were only taking drop-offs for the day. I said I had to wait for my car as stipulated on the appointment I made. He said that the wait time would be five(5) hours. He asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted to sue. I had stopped going to this PepBoys store like three years ago because of their lousy service. I had only decided to give them another try. Never ever again. read more

I will not return. Extremely poor service. I scheduled an appointment for a Saturday which was cancelled due to low staffing. Rescheduled for Monday, received another text that staffing low Monday. All I needed was an oil change and a new tire. I was then called and asked to pay $800 more than estimated. They criticized the company that did the prior oil change, which was in fact their own company, Pep Boys in San Leonardo. They claimed the car would leak oil unless I bought a new part. The car was never leaking oil before and they likely broke the part they claimed needed to be replaced while working on it, which they failed to explain why the part was fine before they began working on it. They also failed to send me any report, picture, or documentation of any kind before suggesting a massive price hike. They then held the car for two whole days attempting to obtain a thousand dollars on what was supposed to be a $200 bill and never clearly explained what the issue was or why the car was delivered to them without an oil leak but was being returned with what they claimed would be one. I haven't had an issue with them before but appeared they were attempting to up charge without any solution. The service was poor, they were attempting to scare me into paying extra money, they consistently ignored my input, and acted as if they are the only car shop around. They showed zero concern for the time they wasted, didn't take any responsibility, tried to strong arm me, and didn't recognize that attempting to raise a price by $800 might give someone a legitimate reason to pause. Needed new tires for a 2010 Prius and didn't want to spend a fortune. I usually go to Costco but they had a substantial lead time for ordering and installation and only had high end expensive tires. Pep boys in San Leandro had an excellent site for searching for tires and found exactly that I wanted... on sale. Called and they said they had the tires and could install the next day. San Leandro store easy to get to with plenty of parking. Super nice fellow at the front desk - no obnoxious hard selling. I noticed windshield wipers which I desperately needed so added them to the service. They had a nice enough waiting area but I walked down to Kohls, Starbucks and Farmers Market. It was a Sunday and it didn't appear to have a manager on duty. Didn't appear to have anyone paying attention to getting the work done. I would not come back again for any reason. I recommend that you go to one of the other dozen tire stores in the area unless you want to wait forever for 15 minutes of work. I scheduled a 12:30 PM appointment for a simple tire replacement. Wanting to be considerate of their time, I even arrived at 10:45 AM -- almost two hours early. Surprisingly, this did not help at all. The staff calmly informed me: "We can't do your tires today. You'll need to come back tomorrow." The reason? Because my vehicle has air suspension and "bigger wheels," they would need extra time. But the highlight was when they confidently explained that replacing four tires would take them 5-6 hours. A truly impressive claim -- especially considering that every normal tire shop can finish the job in under one hour. And just when I thought the conversation couldn't get any more enlightening, the staff offered an exceptionally thoughtful suggestion: "You should probably go to America's Tire instead." i bought a brand of tires online, paid for them. Asked for oil change and tune up for my vehicle. Then 3 hours later they called to give me my vehicle. I checked the tires and they installed a cheaper ones (4 tires). I reported them this and they changed them to the ones I bought. The point is that I don't trust them if they really changed the oil and made the tune up of my vehicle... i paid $987.00... this is the first and the last time I come to this company. read more

This is regarding Pep Boys at 94-47 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica NY. There has been a recent change in management and personnel. Following a recent air conditioning repair, Ali (the new manager) at the register told me that he sealed the hose and did not put in a new hose. And he did something unusual. He emailed the billing instead of paper itemized billing. When I got home, I found out that he charged me $273 (+ tax) for the hose. When I called back, they said he left. When I called back the following day, they said he was not in and will return two days later. When I called back two days later, they said he will come the next day. When I called the next day, they said he would come in the next day. When I call the next day, they first said he would call back. When I called in the afternoon, they said he was not in. This was ridiculous. This is fraud. I demand a refund of $273 plus tax. read more

I have a horrible experience with this shop today. I brought in my car for tires and change and wheel alignment, total cost about $312.00. After I get home for few hours, I found out that they change my expensive Lexus original air valves cap to 4 cheap black one. I called to the store and the reception told me they through away my original one because I didn't ask for it. After the phone call, I went straight to the shop, they said the technician off work at 3 pm. Told me to come back the next day. Pep Boys installed new brakes on my wife's car, but immediately after the service, the brakes made a loud grinding noise. When my wife brought it up, they told her the brakes "needed to set in." I initially agreed, but the noise continued and made us uncomfortable driving the car-so much so that we had to rent a car for a family vacation because we didn't trust the brakes. After we got back, the grinding was still there. When I brought the car back, they admitted there was a mechanical defect. They suggested replacing parts to see if that would fix it. I also felt my wife was pressured into buying new rotors, which I don't believe were necessary. I asked for some compensation for the inconvenience and the four weeks my wife drove with defective brakes, but they refused, saying the warranty only covers parts replacement. Overall, I'm disappointed with the quality of the service and customer care. I wouldn't recommend this location based on our experience. read more

Well... it has been awhile since I visited this place. The auto parts section is a different company now. Pep Boys only works on cars and tires now. My last review was two stars. I'll give them three stars for this visit. I made a 12:00 appointment to have my wheels aligned. Some things in my schedule fell through so I showed up at 10 and they took me anyways. I tried calling first but I was on hold for 15 minutes. I arrived at pep boys from my original location still on hold. I found that kind of funny. I waited in line for a good minute. There was only one guy checking people in and his conversation with the couple was not going well. The guy got a supervisor and he was able to get things moving. They should have more people checking folks in. They told me the service was going to be about an hour and a half (11:30). They have a dedicated makeshift sitting area with a tv. No bathroom though. Maybe you can use the one in the auto parts store? Normally, I'd sit and wait. However, I remember pep boys time estimation has never been accurate! I took an Uber home. They said I'd get a text when my car was ready. I remembered my last review... I never got a text so I was skeptical. I called Pep Boys at 1 to get an update since I didn't hear from them. Yep, their alignment machine was having issues. They said my car won't be ready until 3 or 4. Good thing I took an Uber home right? My car was ready at 2:48 and I got a text, email, and phone call! We went to pay. We showed our Military and Veterans ids. It is outrageous and wildly inappropriate that we're told NO Military or Veterans Discount. That according to the Pep Boys web site, the merchandise we wanted qualified for the Military Veterans Discount. We're told NO Military or Veterans Discount -for anything. YET, we had gone there ONLY because now inglorious Pep Boys publicly boasts their ruse at https://www.pepboys.com/military-commitment with: "Military veterans received a 10% discount when they present their military or veteran id at purchase - every day, at every Pep Boys service center. I went in to have my battery replaced. I was in @. 12:45pm and was told it would be a 3-4 hour wait . Sergio assisted me and got me all set up to have this work order completed . I was prepared to wait for however long it takes . I work In the afternoon and start at 2pm and since I'm the manager that isn't a problem . About 1 1/2 hour later I got a message on my phone stating my vehicle is ready for pick up . I was very happy to not have had to wait long at all . Meanwhile, they will change the price of your service midway through the repair which they did to me to the tune of $74 for a thermostat replacement which eventually cost me $310 instead of the 240 that they quoted. I hope they understand it's better to keep a customer and keep your bid the same as what was quoted over the phone, especially once they've started the job because now they've lost all my business. I am retired and to supplement my income. I drive for LYFT. We have to get an inspection once a year. I went in today. And they asked if I had the form and I replied, no last time you guys had the forms. He said, we do have the forms, but you have to pay $8. So basically, he was rude about it, and also the fact to pay eight dollars for a piece of paper that was ridiculous. And then he added, well, you could go home and print the form and come back, and I said, what with the price of gas is not even worth it. It was just a bad experience. read more

Horrible experience. I would advise anyone from bringing their car into this location. Took my car in to have new tires put on. They had my car for over 6 hours, I literally called to check on it 10 times and not once did they answer the phone. I finally went over to check on it and found that they hadn't even started working on it. Earlier in the day when I dropped my car off I spoke to a woman who had been waiting for her car for hours already and it turns out they had stripped her lug nut, so at that point I didn't even trust that leaving my car in such a mismanaged business. Awful customer service. When I arrived, there were three staff hanging around outside. Miguel, the one person at the service desk was answering phones alone, and waiting on customers. Miguel was not friendly. He told me my inspection would be complete in 5 minutes. Almost 10 minutes later, my keys and paperwork were still on the counter. When I inquired about how much longer, he asked had it been 5 minutes and when told it had been more, he flippedly said " well I guess I'll need more time". Once he completed the inspection, he placed the keys and inspection form on the counter and said "I'm done". He had marked fail. I had to ask him why he failed. He said one of the tires tread was a little low and needed a new tire. This tire was recently replaced! What a scam! No more of my business. Now with the new management I feel like I'm getting shafted every time I come in there. Came win to have brake pads and rotors replaced, these guys come back and tell me that both calipers need replacing and the master cylinder need replacing when I know they don't . When I tell him just to replace pads and rotors he tells me the technician whose been assigned to the car has gone home for the weekend and won't be back for two days. 1-Star. Zero if I could. Had a simple tire rotation scheduled for 12:30pm on a Monday. Arrived 5 minutes early to no line at the check in desk. Good start but all went to crap from there. The guy working the desk must not have been very computer literate because I did not leave the check in desk to the waiting area until 12:55pm. 30 minutes to check in for a simple tire rotation is INSANE. With the right tools and equipment a tire rotation itself should not take 30 mins. So to take that much time asking me irrelevant questions about my electric vehicle was a joke. Anywho, I asked buddy how long the wait would be and he said he had 5 cars ahead of me and depending on whether or not those cars added services, it may be a while. Huh? I have an appointment and should be seen at or shortly after my scheduled appointment time. If I wanted to wait, I could have walked in and opted to stick around or go depending on the wait. Gave them a chance. Waited until 1:30pm before I grabbed my car and left as I had to be somewhere at 2:30pm. COMPLETE waste of time. AVOID! I'll add that as I was leaving a gentleman in the parking lot told me Discount Tire does Tesla Tire Rotation and Balancing free of charge so maybe not a complete waste of time. I originally went here thinking they weren't going to rip me off to fix my car since it's a larger establishment but turns out they were charging me over $1700 for repairs. I said forget it and got a second opinion. I went to Big O' Tires in San Leandro instead, and guess what? My bill was a little over $300 for what actually needed to be fixed. I wanted the noise my car was making to just go away and Big O' Tires was able to do that for me. Not sure what Pep Boys was trying to do, but I definitely felt deceived and ripped off by them. I was definitely dissatisfied with poor boy service and I shouldn't have been charged for an incomplete diagnostic Test .The front desk receptionist couldn't really thoroughly explain to me exactly what was wrong with my car.
