Yesterday, after I had my car battery replaced, I suddenly couldn't get either of my van's sliding doors to close. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing worked. A friend suggested I check out a nearby repair shop, telling me they're known for excellent service, fair prices, and an amazing owner. Honestly, I thought, "Do people like that still exist nowadays?" But I decided to give it a try anyway. Sure enough, Jason--the owner--was exactly as my friend described. He took one quick look at my van, spent maybe two minutes, and somehow fixed both doors right on the spot. When I asked how much I owed him, he just smiled and said, "Have a happy holiday." I was floored. Who does that anymore? From now on, Jason has all of my car service business, and I'm going to spread the word to everyone I know (and even those I don't!). read more

I brought my 2010 Honda CR-V to Champion Auto because the air conditioning stopped working. I was told this shop has a good rating and that they do an excellent job. Julio dropped me off at my house as it'll take several hours for the job to be done. We were told my Honda needed a new fan so Julio put an after market fan. My boyfriend was able to get off work early and we were able to pick up my CR-V. So far I'm happy that my AC now works and was told if it stops working to bring it in so Julio will inspect it. I've been bringing my car to Champion for a few years and they have always been quick, professional, honest, and reasonably priced. They don't try to upsell you, and they're one of the few mechanics that seem fully aware that people are dependent on having their cars and can't afford to have them in a shop for weeks. I took my 2005 Ford into Champion Auto in San Leandro earlier this year for an overhaul -- the car needed brakes, power, steering and was making a weirdly rumbling sound. The car had been sitting unused for several months and needed a lot of care. I went in and said, "there's a lot wrong. Can you fix it?" And they did. I went back a second time to have air conditioning fixed. The people at Champion Auto handled it all. Repairs were done in a timely manner and the cost was within the estimate window they gave me. I was driving on the freeway and I heard something happen to my left front tire. It started to make an aggressive noise and I had to quickly pull off at the nearest exit. I mapped the closest mechanic and Champion Automotive came up. I pulled in while feeling pretty frantic on what this newfound problem would cost and with my minimal knowledge of cars I didn't want to be taken advantage of. One of the mechanics stopped what they were doing and walked over to help me. Quickly let me know the problem was my alignment had gotten so bad that it tore up one of my tires and that I was safe to drive home but needed to get my alignment fixed and 2 new tires. He didn't try to sell me on anything or lie to me. He simply gave me free knowledge and let me use it how I willed. That was some of the best customer service I have ever received and I truly am grateful. read more

To start off, I have a hard time trusting people with my car. Jason and Julio greet you with a smile every time. I recently needed a lot of work done to my M3. Throughout the whole process they were clear and descriptive on what was wrong; kept me updated the whole way. They're work was beyond anything I've seen before. After someone recommended this shop, I took a used Prius 2006 to them for a repurchase check. Jason checked the car himself. I doubt he even bothered to put it up on the rack. If he did, he would have seen clearly the weld on the catalytic converter, obvious even though there is a shield. It's welded at the lower end and it's quite visible, indicating this is not the cat converter that belongs on this car. Jason passed this used car for purchase. Eleven months later I learn from a mechanic the cat converter is not the one supposed to be on this car and now it needs replacement, it's causing a check engine light. This is a $3500 job! Jason blew it! You could have warned me 11 months ago to say No, and PASS on this car. Do not buy this car. This is costing me thousands now! Thousands! You gave a shitty prepurchase check. What did you even look for? I say: Do not patronize this shop -- they do the least possible work, and they cannot be trusted. Either lazy or just plain careless! DON'T give them your money or time. read more

I used to go to Nohr's automotive but since the owner retired and closed shop I've been without a local mechanic for our Honda CRV. My neighbor recommended I check out Champion Automotive since it is just down at the end of the street, so walk I did and got an appointment. Long story short, the owner is very nice and very experienced mechanic. Our CRV would not start easily, and so needed a diagnostic check. Great service, they fixed the problems, and very fair bill and honest about exactily what is wrong. They went over the bill line by line when I picked up the car and were very friendly. My hybrid battery needed to be replaced in August. There were none available in California, only one in Florida (possibly). Jason was patient (I checked in with him every other week). He called the dealership to follow up on when a battery would be available. Finally my battery arrived in October and was installed. I am very pleased with the service provided by Jason! read more

I blew my tire in the freeway and roadside assistance completely messed up. I was stranded for 2 hours and started walking to find a restroom then stumbled upon this place. Gary was amazing. He put my spare on and had me out within an hour, which is before the next roadside assistance people were suppose to show up. He only charged me $40 to do the work. What a sweetie!! read more

Not being a patient one when it comes to replacing the headlight bulb to my Volvo, I took my car initially to Avner @ JC Tire a block away. Told Avener I had the bulb & just needed to replace the burnt out one. Being a weekday, he was a bit busy but said he could do it for $35. Waited for the weekend but Avener wasn't open so I took it to Champion. The guy took a look & said it'd cost $60. When I told him Avner would do it for $35, the guy said "Then take it to him." Smarty pants put me in a "I'll-show-him" mood. Scouted around the neighborhood & found a rinky-dink car shop on E.14th & 148th (close to small strip mall.) The coolest guy, Van, came out, took a look at the burnt out lightbulb, asked for the replacement, & VOILA, bulb replaced in 5 minutes! The cost: $10!!! He recommended that the connector also needed to be replaced but that it could wait until the next time the bulb needed replacing. That is what I call honest service. We have been trusting our cars to Gerry for many years based on low cost and the ability to fix anything. Gerry and his gang of mechanic provide top notch service and stand behind their work. For example, my air conditioning system was not working at the beginning of the summer. Brought it to Gerry. He repaired the system and charged it with new freon. A couple months later the system stopped working again. I brought it into Gerry. He fixed a secondary problem in the system, refilled the freon, and charged me nothing even though I told him that I should pay him for the freon. There are not many affordable mechanics that will do that. read more

Funny that this update is exactly 2 years from the last one. Anyway, my daughter who now owns the my old 2010 Outback and lives in WA came for a short weekend visit and the car developed some issues. Brought the car to Champion for Jerry to have a look and found out that he has recently sold the business! But he was there wrapping up some paperwork, and introduced me to the new owner Julio. While I was sad that Jerry was leaving, I quickly found out how wonderful Julio is. I explained the problems to him, and told him I was in a time crunch as I needed the car back by Monday. He agreed to have me bring the car in first thing Saturday, and by the end of the day all of the problems had been addressed. He is as professional and courteous as Jerry, and it's obvious that he really knows his stuff. Big sigh of relief from me now that I can continue to bring my cars to Champion and know that they will be in the best of hands. Highly, highly recommended! read more
