Bancone has been on my list of restaurants to try for some time and it didn't disappoint. We had the focaccia starter, and I had the silk handkerchiefs with egg and walnut. The handkerchiefs were lovely and unlike most pasta dishes I've had in town. My friend had the beef cheeks pasta, which I didn't try but he finished his plate and said it was delicious! I would definitely recommend a reservation. We stopped in about 6pm on a Sunday and we're quoted an 1.5 hour wait for walk-in. Luckily the wait was only 45 minutes and the hostess was extra attentive to ensure she could reach me on my US phone number when our seats were ready. read more

Everything at this restaurant was absolutely delicious! The inside it a bit tight size wise and they do have set time allotments for each reservation size. We had counter seating, which was a great spot to watch them make all the dishes. Both our appetizers were very well executed. I thoroughly enjoyed the burrata with the salt baked beet root. I would highly recommend the silk handkerchief for the main dish! It seemed to be one of the most popular items and did not disappoint. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was divine! Their sauces do not have much flavor, we went there because it says it was michelin star, but I think it is disappointing, a few items on Yelp are not served any more. I didn't even know they charged £1.5 for water, then I was told that was still water, but they didn't let me know when they brought us the water. Very great food. It seemed pack from the outside, and when we talked to the host, she was super nice and actually gave us two options of tables. We sat upstairs and the room was great. More private, quiet than downstairs but definitely not uncomfortable. Everyone loved their food. I had the cacio e Pepe and chocolate dessert. My party had the handkerchiefs and spicy pork mafalde. It wasn't for me. It felt like a clinical exploration of pasta and maybe that's what people like. Technically the pasta was nicely done. I'm Italian and my grandmother's homemade pasta was perfection. I didn't feel the heart and warmth that should be part of pasta meal. We sat at a sushi style counter but made zero contact with the chefs assembling dishes in front of us--unlike a sushi chef. The staff was aloof and they did relay style service, not one person the whole time. Had the silk kerchiefs--didn't get it what that was about. We had a cauliflower salad that was weird. Cauliflower is one of my most favorite foods--I roast it daily(!) and it's so good my kids eat it like it's candy. There was no salad on the menu and they charged us for bread that wasn't as good as CPK's. Since there are so many great reviews, I'm guessing this is a "me" problem. I'm guessing if the staff Reads this they will say, she doesn't know what good Italian tastes like! Maybe that's true! I'm not an intellectual pasta person. read more

Bancone has the appearance of an upscale and fancy restaurant, but many of the diners came in dressed very casually. The menu is simple and we enjoyed the grilled artichoke as a starter. The pasta dishes we ordered were also tasty, but the walnut butter was a bit on the heavy side. The staff were nice and kind. London is new with new places to eat in 2022. They are all over. They are not big. They are small. Some have less than 20 tables. Others have less than 100. They are waiting for you. One day we walked into Bancone over near Leceister Square. It was not packed so a good time to go. The specialty is pasta. All freshly made that day. Nothing is from the freezer. There is a small list to select from. So for some of us it is difficult to choose. It is also limited in style. You are not looking for pasta and meatballs. This is all about the pasta. For our selection we had Salt baked celeriac, rigatoni, almond, lemon. Then we had Aubergine and ricotta cappellacci, green tomato, basil. Of course we had to try Braised ox cheek, pappardelle, Barolo vinegar along with Spicy pork & n'duja ragù, mafalde. It was all fresh. You can watch as he makes all this with his team. It is not made for evryone at once. Instead it is for each guest, so it does take time. But it is good to try. It is fresh and natural. You could be back in Italy. In fact, we had spent two weeks in Italy and had similar taste from Tuscany region. It was lightly made and flavored. Nothing was strong or heavy. For dessert we tried the Plum, lemon confit, meringue, as well as a Chocolate, mascarpone, lime. It was light and tasty. The perfect compliment for the meal we just finished. The one draw back of Bancone is the staff. This is bad. It is not helpful or kind. They do not answer questions or help with any decisions you make. Once we had placed our order it did take 25 minutes to start arriving at our table. We saw it all on the counter at the kitchen were the cooking was done. The team brought the order out except for one of the orders. It was still sitting on the counter. The waiter left us and went away. Our order sat there. Five minutes later one other waiter finally heard us and brought us the meal. It was cool by now. Not what was expected. It was poorly served. Even with low prices. Bancone does have Two (2) Michelin Stars. That is perfect for the chef. He does deserve it. As for his staff, that is another story. Maybe should lose a few points. I will not be back. Bancone has been one of our favorite restaurants thus far in London! Ambiance (5/5): Online the ambiance is described as "upscale" but I disagree. It's a casual pasta bar where most of their tables are counter top seating. We loved sitting along the kitchen as we got to see how the Chef's cooked each dish. We had both a dinner and show which we truly appreciated! Service (2/5): Service does not exist here! We were actually very disappointed with the service as I had to constantly hound our waitress for water. She didn't check up on us not once to see how our meal was going and when it came to getting the check, we waited over 15 minutes until we gave up and called her over. Additionally, we waited over 30 minutes for our food to come out which we will give them the pass only because everything was made fresh. Food (4.5/5): Their pasta was very delicious and for sure memorable! We ordered the Silk Handkerchiefs, Spicy Pork Ragu, and Brill Seaweed Butter Paccheri. As someone who doesn't typically order Ragu at Italian restaurants, I can say this was probably one of the best I have had. The meat portion was generous and the flavors just blended so well. I also loved the Silk Handkerchiefs, it's similar to a carbonara. I loved the nuttiness mixed with creamy taste inside each bite. Lastly, if the Brill Paccheri wasn't drenched in olive oil, I think it may have been my favorite dish of the night. Sadly, there was wayyy too much olive oil causing the pasta to get soaked in it (taking a 0.5 star off because of this). I can tell the flavors were there if they had used less oil--- the use of fish and pasta was iconic and unique. Overall, the pasta was cooked to perfection, it was not too hard and not too soggy. Bravo! *** UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR: On the menu it states "an optional gratuity of 12.5% will be added to the total bill". However, when the bill came out the gratuity was already added to the total? As someone who is big on principle, if you want to charge 12.5% gratuity to all bills, fine. Just don't say it's optional when it's not and don't force customer to ask for the "optional" gratuity charge to be removed. Let the customer choose if they want to add it - that makes it truly optional*** As someone who is a food snob, I highly recommend visiting Bancone! Don't expect much from their service but their food will not disappoint. read more

This is one of my favorite pasta places in London not just because of the pasta but also for the ambiance. I adore a restaurant that has an open kitchen so you can see how the culinary magic happens. I came here with a Foodie group so we were able to order nearly everything on the menu. Here are my thoughts: Handkerchief pasta: omg, this is crazy crazy good and a must order. The walnuts mixed with the egg and butter wrapped with the silky pasta sheets is scrumptious Spicy pork Ragu: I absolutely loved the texture of the pasta, which reminded me of a lasagne strip. The ragu was flavourful and everyone at the table enjoyed it. Mushroom ravioli: delicate pasta with a nice mushroom filling. Good but not on my list of "would order again." Anchovies and grilled sourdough: I'm a huge fan of anchovies so whenever they are on the menu or a part of a dish, I order it. The bread wash crispy yet chewy and the anchovies were full of flavor Italian Salumi: a great mix Italian meats. Would recommend ordering especially if coming with a group Focaccia: it's buttery and light Cannoli: I can't comment on this because I'm not a huge fan of desserts (I'd rather have another order of the anchovy toast or the handkerchief pasta for "dessert." They looked great though and everyone enjoyed them. The menu: if you're anything like me, I like to pre-plan what I'm going to order so I don't feel as overwhelmed when I get to the restaurant Lastly, make a reservation. Rude hostess who wouldn't seat us as soon as she saw we had children in our party. It was obvious because she was about to see us before she saw my kids and quickly changed her mind. She said they had a reservation that was already 10 minutes late but had to continue waiting another 15 minutes which made no sense. When I told her that she wasn't seating us because of the kids, she lost her mind. And said that she has kids too and they seat kids all the time. One look around the restaurant completely negated her statement. Not a kid in sight!! She was rude and disrespectful to 5 potential customers. If you are in the area check out BUCA DE LUPO which was packed and extremely kind to us, especially my kids and had excellent food and service. read more

Chef was absolutely in the zone and it was awesome to see the consistency of the food being pushed out real time. We sampled three pasta dishes. Because we can. We were not disappointed. We were recommended Bancone by a friend who frequents London. We got the Burrata, Focaccia, Handkerchiefs, Duck, Cacio e Pepe, and a couple cocktails. DIVINE. The pasta was fresh and the flavors were delicious, without being overpowering. We had a couple picky eaters in our group, and they loved it so much, that we ordered a second round of Handkerchiefs and Cacio e Pepe . The service was very attentive and everything came out well timed and warm. It felt very comfortable, where we could eat after running around all day, but not so upscale, where we felt out of place at any point in our day clothes. I cannot recommend Bancone more. read more

This was EASILY the best meal we had in London (seriously!). Made reservations for a table well in advance and was promptly shown to our table, which was a cute 2-person booth with more privacy. Both the silk handkerchief pasta and spicy pork nduja ragu pasta were PHENOMENAL - they were fresh, had amazing texture and the flavor was just mind blowing, especially for the silk handkerchief pasta with its brown butter and walnut combination that just WORKS. My husband even commented that he wished he knew how to make it so we could eat it all the time back in the US! Service was good and the prices are super reasonable. This may or may not be the best pasta place I have ever had. Maybe Bancone is actually by top 3 restaurants here in London, it's really just THAT good. Had to make a reservation far in advance because that's just the way dining works in London unfortunately, but was still able to get a good time and at a reasonable time on Monday. - Burrata, roasted butternut squash, walnuts - I was quite disappointed with the portion sizes of this dish, but the burrata made up for it. The cheese was incredibly fresh and I love the silkiness of the stracciatella with the hardened mozzarella on the outside. I wasn't a big fan of the butternut squash which was too hard for my taste, also there really was not much of it. - Silk handkerchiefs, walnut butter, confit egg yolk - This is THE dish Bancone is known for and it definitely did not disappoint one bit. Essentially it's handmade thick pasta with the best tasting butter sauce you will ever eat. It's so hard to describe the flavor - salty, creamy, sweet, really every flavor under the sun. The pasta was absolutely delicious too and was able to grab every bit of that sauce. Definitely the better pasta out of the 2 that we ordered. - Spicy pork & n'duja ragù with mafalde - For some reason, this dish reminded me of the chasu in tonkatsu ramen and even had a bit of the ramen umami flavor in this dish. You think it's just a regular meat sauce pasta dish, but the complexities were absolutely incredible and I loved the shape of the pasta as well. Although not as good as the silk handkerchief, really better than any pasta you can get in London. - Limoncello semifreddo, pistachio, raspberry - Was not a big fan of this dish. Was this ice cream or cake, make up your mind. Also too much pistachio and portion sizes were small, can definitely skip. Overall, delicious and affordable meal in London. Bancone is an upscale Italian restaurant in Covent Garden with tasty pastas and antipasto. We came with a large group and got a set menu. The burrata and kale were both great as starters. For pastas, the mushroom ravioli was succulent and satisfying, and the beef ragu was nice for something more savory. The cannoli for dessert were also tasty. I loved the open concept of the kitchen and bar also. We had a reservation and they seated us almost as soon as we got there. We ordered the famous silk handkerchief pasta. It was good, with hazelnut butter and confit egg yolk, however, the burrata and tomato appetizer left a lot to be desired. Both dishes needed a little acid, but the appetizer was begging for it. There was red onions mixed with the chopped tomato which made it more reminiscent of a salsa than an Italian tomato burrata dish. Interesting. Also, it came after our mains. This place is incredible. If you're a "foodie" that spends plenty of time talking to your companion at places other than a restaurant then sit at the "bar" and watch the chef & staff work. They are just too much fun. The only down-side (American complaint, I know) is that they don't allow "doggie-bags" for leftovers. We ordered more food than we could eat thinking that we could enjoy warming up back in hotel room later on, but no - not allowed. Never heard of this. Wish we would have known ahead of time. After seeing countless photos of Bancone's infamous handkerchief pasta, I just had to go and try it for myself! The food: Overall, it was delicious! Bancone doesn't have the usual Italian menu with a primi and secondi, instead just snacks, anti pasti, pastas, and dolce. So, if you're a meat and veg person, not for you. Also, the portions are great for the price. 1. Silk Handkerchiefs - the luscious sheets of pasta were coated in the most GLORIOUS walnut butter & topped with a confit egg yolk! Such a unique dish with the nuttiest of the walnuts and richness from the butter and yolk! Highly recommend- £9 - 9.6/10 2. Ravioli- 100% THE BEST DISH!!! The ravioli was filled with creamy courgette (zucchini), lemon & ricotta and coated in a heavenly semi-dried tomato butter! I don't think I've ever tried a better lemon dish!!!! - £13 - 11/10 3. Bucatini cacio e pepe - when cacio e Pepe is done right, OH BABY IS IT GOOD!! The thick al dente bucatini was cooked to perfection and coated in the amazing cheese and pepper sauce! - £10 - 9/10 4. Spicy pork & n'duja ragù with mafalde - If you've never had mafalde, this is your sign to try!! The funky looking pasta catches the sauce soooo well! My wife and two of our friends visiting from the states were so excited to visit this restaurant as we had heard it had fabulous food and in fact was one of the best restaurants in London...boy, were we wrong! Worst pasta we ever had eaten...it was made and brought out before our drinks were delivered to the table and to make it even worse half of the menu items were not available as they ran out of food. Not done yet!! We had a reservation at 9:15 pm and arrived on time, but were told they closed at 10 pm...we sat down on time and when 10 pm rolled around they shut off most of the lights and every single person that was an employee were in a mad rush to clean the restaurant as though we did not exist. I have been there two time previously and on the second time took a friend, on my third time I asked to have my leftovers to go but was told they don't have a container but if I have one on me I can pack it...??? like am I supposed to be walking around with an empty container to take my leftovers - a meal I paid for... The waitress was simply not helpful, didn't seem to care and didn't even make any attempt to find one or ask someone in the kitchen. Funny thing is, I asked for my bill and a container, I saw her went to get the bill and then she told me we dont have to go containers... for a restaurant that is of that size and capacity is such a disappointment. Especially for people who dine alone and want to try different things, it is a waste I had to leave half of my meal there which I was intending to have for dinner. When I visit London, which is often, I always visit the restaurant, however, I will never return nor recommend to a friend.
