I really owe an update on Banbury Fair. Particularly their antique barn in the back. I have spent many hours here over the past year. I truly love this shop! The items are constantly changing. It took me a while to realize that they hunt down these amazing finds and put them for sale in the barn. New to U and Girlfriends are my two favorite spots in the barn. Individuals own their own businesses that are housed there. Kim and Leslie are truly a couple of the nicest ladies I've ever met. They take some items on consignment and offer a very fair split. This is a great spot to find those unique pieces that your friends will be oo-ing and ah-ing over. Most recently, I saw a two tone desk. Red and natural wood. It is so sharp! I wish I had room for it. There's a small rolling desk looking for a new home. It's darling! I picked up the cutest rocking chairs for my nieces this Christmas. Can you say "total gem"?? This describes this place and their staff. I heard ALL about it from my sister both on the phone while she was there the previous day and in her review on Yelp. The best way to describe Banbury Fair is....well, you have to go. It's a store with other 'shops' in it. Make sure to make your way to "the barn" located in a separate building. You HAVE to check it out because believe me, it has some hidden treasures. You can sample different items such as balsamic vinegars and infused oils and even some bakery treats. They offer a "refill" service where you can refill your olive oil and save money by reusing the bottle. Love it! They have things you can not find anywhere else, beside Galena, maybe. Great gifts: jewelry, baby clothes, furniture, holiday decor, decorative artwork, antiques, cookie jars, women's clothing, belts, bird houses, accessories of all kinds and my favorite, food! The staff was more than friendly and actually made me feel like we were old friends. They are caring and conscientious. Ladies I enjoyed being around. Not obtrusive and definitely pleasant. We learned about ladies' night coming up in January, I believe the 27th. Check it out! The shop is a little tight in a few spots and you will learn to walk sideways, but you can have a lot of fun to shopping this way. You have to look over the store from floor to ceiling. There is stuff EVERYWHERE! From knickknacks to earrings and gift baskets you can build yourself to special order personalized items. The barn has antique shops that know how to price to sell. I recently picked up an old shelf for my mom that was shaped and painted like a lighthouse: $15! I also found a framed print with cherubs wrapped around my name. Don't remember the exact price, but I want to say it was around $12ish. And I'm very tempted to pick up one of their antique rocking horses for when my nieces and nephews come over to visit. The boutiques in the house are super cute, too. They really have everything! This place has been a Bartlett treasure for 25 year! "Antique" prices are excellent and the inventory has a quick turn around, so if you see something you like, get it right away... Most items are not truly antiques but baby boomers will recognize many items from their childhood. Furniture is set up in creatively coordinated vignettes. Couches, dining room tables & chairs, lots of tables, nightstands and buffets. Picture frames, lamps & light fixtures, baskets, knick knacks... Beautiful & cute decorative items for your home & yard. Banbury Fair has classes in decorative painting so you can buy a small table and learn how to make it look great, all at one place. They also have a women's boutique (clothes, shoes & accessories) which is definitely higher end but very nice. I almost forgot that they have a children's clothing area with the most beautiful Christening gowns & costumes I've ever seen. Banbury is a great place to go to, when you need a unique gift or you need just a "pick me up" to gain inspiration or be around nice people. The staff that is working is frequently one of the owners of the various businesses run, and they are always so friendly and helpful. And, they remember your face and name. I have taken many painting classes there, as well as purchased (more than I wish to admit) a lot of antiques and various other items in the barn. Its my first place that I go to to buy unique Christmas ornaments, a special baby gift and when I need painting supplies. Its truly a treasure, and I hope you try it out! read more

Today we held a birthday party here and have to say they did a great job. The woman who runs the parties did a wonderful job hosting- providing fun activities for a 8 year old girls birthday party. Girls had a blast. They did a spa day (got nails done ) and had a dance party. Only knock is the party was scheduled on a day the location had a halloween fair. So we constantly had people walking through the party front . Only recommendation is if having a party there they should probably put a sign in the door entry closing off the area or section the party is held. Girls still had a great time. If you like the Little Traveler in Geneva, you'll love Banbury Fair in Bartlett. It's similar in that there are several small businesses within the main building and out back in the antique barn but not so overwhelming like the Little Traveler. If you're ready to part with any of your own antiques, one of the 3 dealers there may buy them from you for resale or if a larger item, on consignment. It took almost a year but they finally sold a very large antique hutch I needed to sell to make room in my kitchen. I'm probably in there 2-3 times a month just to see what's new. Right now, unique Halloween decorations, jewelry and fun stuff. Also more antiques inside, jewelry, food items including Breadsmiths and really great olive oil that you can refill your bottle at a discount, Martha's Closet, a trendy boutique; a massage therapist, an ice cream parlor and a new baby boutique, "Lollipops" A must stop shop if you're looking for a gift for a little one. Throughout the year they also have special nights, such as Ladies' Night Out that are lots of fun. I took my first decorative painting class here in 1989 and I was hooked. Times change, though, and decorative painting isn't as popular as it once was. Unfortunately, Banbury offers very few painting classes these days. Also, they just don't carry great lines of unpainted wood or brushes/paints and other supplies any longer. To stay open, it seems like they jump on the latest craze (for example, when rubber stamping was popular they dedicated half the painting space to stamping). You never know what you're gonna get when you walk in...baby clothes, ice cream store, antiques, holistic massage?? *sigh* The old Banbury Fair is sorely missed. read more

I live in Bartlett & have visited Banbury Fair about 5 or 6 times. The check out area/counter is in front of the front door & every time I've gone in there no one ever says hello or acknowledges me. If anyone is standing at the front desk they may look up at me as I walk in but never say hello or welcome. I've walked around & seen many cute things & seen classes I would be interested in, but I refuse to purchase anything if no one is interested in my money enough to say hello. I don't know how a local business in a small downtown area can survive. It is a shame. I would like to support businesses in my local town but will drive past Banbury Fair on my way to a chain store with staff who are friendly to me. 11/11/12 - Update - Ug, I just don't understand this place! I was contacted by a seller from Banbury Fair asking me to make a return visit. I declined because I've been in this place enough to know it won't be any different. I had Monday, October 29, 2012 off from work and drove past the place and decided to give it another try. Well - I was correct. I walked in and an older lady (maybe around 60-70 Y/O) with dark brown/red short cropped hair just looked up at me and then went back to her computer. I walked around and was in the clothing area when a nice lady said hello & welcomed me. I went back out the front door and nothing - no hello, no goodbye, no welcome, nothing. Oh well Banbury Fair. Maybe because I look young (39 Y/O) that they are not interested in my money? I will never visit this place again - rather go somewhere where I am welcomed! read more

I worked a wedding there last year. The owners were awesome. they are very helpful and and help made the event go off without a hitch. The uniqueness of the facility makes it for a very interesting outdoor wedding settings. Is a very beautiful and very easily workin venue. I bought a few pieces from this store and thought I was a valued customer until I tried to return a piece that literally did not fit into my home and the sales representative said I could only re-sell it on consignment, not return the piece. My experience was pretty on part with another reviewer's experience in that I live in Bartlett and have been here 5-6 times, but the customer service is really really lacking. Every time I have come in, no one acknowledges that we're there and it seems more times than not the ladies that work there have no clue how to operate basic technology like cash registers. Today, for instance, I just went in to get ice cream for my son because he loves their ice cream. No one was at the counter so we walked back and after about 5 minutes the lady said hi and gave me a flier, but that was it. Went back to the ice cream counter and after standing for a couple minutes the lady says she's having difficulty and told me to go up front, but she'll turn on the machine. I go up front and stand for about 10 minutes without acknowledgement (trying to keep a 5 year old boy entertained in the clothing section of this type of store is like pulling teeth) because the lady was moving slow as molasses helping other people, which would be understandable had there not been 2 people working there literally doing nothing. You could, I don't know, take my cash (to put in the system later) and give my kid his stupid ice cream? You could pretend that I'm actually standing there and say hi without me having to GLARE at you? Have we not taken customer service 101? I've purchased things from here every time I have gone and yeah they're cute, but if I have to put up with terrible customer service every single time I come in, I'd rather buy that stuff online. It's cool, but nothing I can't find elsewhere. I likely won't return even though it's only a few blocks away. read more

I love this gem in Bartlett. They have an eclectic blend of old and new, furniture and clothes, arts and crafts, classes on rosemaling - and bunny hutches in the back for the kids. I actually used Banbury Fair as my wedding venue! It was incredibly beautiful and festive and they worked amazing with getting everything I wanted on a budget. We had 250 people at our wedding but they could have hosted bigger or smaller. We had the ceremony and reception there. Guests loved that it was outdoors, a cute garden and blooming flowers. The little bunny hut was funny and unique. There even was a room for all the bridesmaids to get ready in ( I had 7). It was very unique, fun, beautiful, full of sunshine and flowers, the little shop was fun for guests to explore, and incredibly affordable for being in the Chicago suburbs. read more
