Straight to the point food joint with a lot of of food items to offer. Craving sandwiches to arepas and patacons, all the way to the sweet tooth lovers opting for one of their shakes. I've never had an arepa before so I didn't know what to expect. I got the arepa cubana and omg, it was SO good. It was pretty big too, so I could only eat half at the time and happily saved my other half for later in the day. The arepa wasn't oily/greasy and had the right amount of crunch to it. I'm so glad they didn't overdo it with their house made sauce because it would have left a soggy mess. Notes: Street parking only

One of my BFFs lives in Elizabeth, New Jersey and is currently located right on Elizabeth Avenue. Little did I know that during my recent visit, I'd have the opportunity to try one of the most renowned local places. Enter my newbie-experience with Banana's King. Or Banana King. I'm not sure which it actually is. Their sign says one thing, their Yelp listing says another. And I have no idea how to ask because I don't speak Spanish, which is what pretty much everyone here does. I still managed to order okay, even tho I am "Grande Rojo Gringo." I love trying local food, especially if it's stuff I've never heard of or tried before. I had a King Patacon, which is a flattened deep-fried plantain with grilled chicken, shrimp, cheese and tomatoes. It was tasty in a "this is great, but I never need to eat it again" kind of way. I also tried the salchipapas, which are fries with mayo, slices of beef sausage and kind of a thousand island dressing that is all the rage around here. You could get it on anything, and there was a special dispenser so you can even have more. The salchipappas were also tasty, and I also never need to eat that again. Really, it wasn't bad at all. But it's definitely not for me. Everything was prepared well, quick and hot. Oh, and I also ordered a coconut shake, because they claim to have the world's best, or something like that. It wasn't. It was nasty. Too sweet and tasted more like hazelnut than coconut. Fail on that. I'd come back and try a few more things. Maybe next visit.

Great for a quick meal. Better than eating McDonalds or Taco Bell.. Better quality.. --Food: Tasty. Freshly made. Love the cheesesteak sandwich which is about $4. Quality quick (on the go) good. --Drinks: No liquor. Shakes are worth trying :) --Price: Very reasonable. The portion is great for the price. --Atmosphere: Definitely the Spanish chicken shack sort of feel. Nothing fancy.

None of the cooks are wearing masks!!!!

Absolutely horrible that not just 1 but ALL 3 cooks did not have their masks on while preparing multiple customers orders. They have a sign posted that no one is permitted to enter without a mask but the employees are not enforcing this state mandated order !! If they can't comply with the states safety measures then they should be shut down for putting others at risk in the middle of this pandemic that has already taken so many lives!!

It was easy to find parking nearby on the street, we walked in and were immediately sat down. Service was great throughout the meal. The server did speak primarily to us in Creole. I can see how that may not work for someone who is not Haitian. Maybe having someone who did speak a mix. However, he was very nice and the food came out fast and was delish. Shared a griot fritay to start and it was definitely tasty and portion was good. For entree I had the legume with Beef with black rice. Tasty, spicy, and very authentic tasting. I can say they stay true to the flavors and don't water them down. The drink was ehh. I did not taste much liquor in the creole punch. Not worth it in my opinion. In terms of ambiance, I wish better music was playing. The set up was cool. Nothing amazing. If I was in the area again, I would come back.

I was able to order a cocktail (mangotini) made just the way I liked it and it was super delicious. My companions ordered food which took some time come out. We only really ordered appetizers and everyone enjoyed their food. This place is not big so not too many tables. I will mention one thing I stated to the bartender....The bar chairs are INCREDIBLY uncomfortable. These seats were not made to fit full size adult derrière. Good vibe.

We came for the Oxtail burger but on this day they were only making beef burgers, lamb burgers, and catfish sandwiches. The bonus, however, was the BBQ offerings in the backyard -- Mac n cheese, corn on the cob, fries, and plantains! Between the awesome cheeseburger and lamb burger, I was in seventh heaven. We had a great time sitting on the lawn and celebrating this glorious day with our brothers and sisters.

Shortly after, another couple came in and were told about 20 minutes. We were the only two parties waiting. When a table opened, the waitress began seating us, and the chef stopped her and asked the other (AA) couple if they were there first. He then told the gentleman, "I see you with family, and I'm not trying to start any problems." This was said while we were literally being seated, and nothing was said to us. It put us in an awkward and embarrassing position, as we would never intentionally skip ahead of anyone. As a Hispanic couple, the interaction also left us wondering if we were being treated differently, even if that wasn't the intention. Then the drink order added to the frustration. I ordered a hibiscus lemonade and my boyfriend ordered a regular lemonade. The waitress repeated it back incorrectly as strawberry, and I corrected her. About 10 minutes later she brought a strawberry lemonade anyway. When I said that wasn't what I ordered, the chef took the drink and handed it to the other couple who had just ordered a strawberry lemonade , saying it was freshly made and "they didn't want it." That was uncomfortable because I never ordered strawberry to begin with. Overall, the interaction felt dismissive and awkward. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled -- especially the comments made -- left us feeling unwelcome. I hope this feedback helps improve communication and customer experience moving forward.
