I have tried other Afghan restaurants but always come back to Bamiyan because of their top quality and authentic Afghan food. They also have the cheapest price compared to the others. My go-to meals in Bamiyan are usually the Kebab Dinners which includes rice, salad and the naan bread. My favorite kebabs are the Beef Kofta and the Chicken Breast. The Kofta is mainly minced beef with herbs and spices and is freshly grilled to perfection. I find Bamiyan's Kofta tender, juicy and not dry like the others. The same goes for their chicken breast. Mildly spiced chicken cubes are perfectly charred and absolutely delicious. The simple Afghani Rice (Chalau) has a fragrant aroma and fluffy texture. The Afghan salad which is loaded with vegetables like tomatoes and lettuce is light and refreshing and goes well with the white yoghurt sauce they provide you. Both rice and salad side dishes are perfect accompaniment to the meat kebabs. The Naan is another one of my favorites, I always make sure to buy an extra one just to bring home. The only thing I noticed lately is that the red sauce is not as flavourful and spicy as it used to be. Nevertheless it doesn't affect the overall quality of their food and would still come back here. Staff are friendly but expect for longer wait times up to 15 minutes for your order since this location is pretty busy all the time.

Bamiyan Kabob is a staple in my list of food places when I don't want to cook. I've been coming here for years and finally decided to share my thoughts. So I think the quality of the food has fallen since the original owners sold the restaurant to a relative or close family friend (I heard from someone, who knows someone, who knows someone from the family). After Bamiyan started opening locations everywhere, the portions and quality became inconsistent between locations. BUT, having said that, this is still the OG of Afghani food in the Toronto/East York area. The food at Bamiyan worst day is still better than similar places on their best day. On this occasion, I ordered the Chicken Kofta Kabob Dinner. For $18.99, you get a skewer of chicken, a skewer of minced beef, salad, naan, rice, and 2 sauces. ("Red" Tomato with some heat & "White" Yogurtish dip for the meats). The portions are generous. The meats are seasoned with Afghan spices and grilled to perfection. The rice is also delicious. I think the basmati rice is infused with a heap load of love. The salad usually has diced tomatoes, dice onions, and chopped cilantro/corinader. BUT, I always order it without the lettuce, I like to mix the salad with the rice. Try it, you'll thank me! The dinner was delicious, my stomach was happy. I've tried most of their offerings here with the exception of the salmon, and I have not been disappointed so far. The only con I have with Bamiyan is the choice of Pepsi products!! Long live COKE BABY!! So for the uninitiated, definitely give this place a try... my 2 cents.

Best Afghan kebabs I've had anywhere. Full disclosure, never been to Afghanistan. So "anywhere" really only means between Kitchener-Waterloo and Toronto, take what you will from my review given the limited range of experience. Still, you get a huge plate of food, warm Afghan naan right out of the oven and quick friendly service for a reasonable price. What's not to love? OK the place can't keep up with the traffic especially on weekends so you're more than likely to sit down at a table that's still got food bits left on it. Hey, this ain't Michelin 4 star, so get over it, pull out a few napkins and wipe the table yourself. You don't pay any tips so no big deal as long as you set your own expectations appropriately. I've had the tandoori (always tender), the regular chicken, the beef kebabs and the giant "pucks" of ground meat (not sure what it is but it's super tasty and you get two of them). They are all good, as is the rice. Even the salad is nice, although it's nothing special at least it's always fresh due to the high turnover. Spice level is low/moderate -- enough for good flavor but spice diehards will be disappointed, even with the red sauce they give you. Only food complaint is the naan is great when you get it but quickly cools and hardens. By the end of the meal it's terrible, so if you like bread, eat it first while it's warm. (And they give you such a huge slab that if you do eat it all, you'll lessening your chances of actually finishing your meal. I have a decent, but not huge appetite, and I cannot finish the meals with two skewers ever. Still I order those because they are the best value.) For some reason, there's always a screaming baby whenever I go there. Take out is usually the better option, as it's so crowded and noisy.

I had tried Bamiyan several times at friend's places as they are quite popular for take out. I was never impressed as don't like the bland grilled meat that is a staple of this region's BBQ. They seem to be very popular so if you prefer your grilled meat that way they will fit the bill. So on the way back from a Costco trip I decided to try them. Even for a very early dinner the place was packed and the take out business was even more brisk than dine in. I decided on the chapli kebab dinner with naan option. I specifically chose this dish as it doesn't travel well and is more spiced than the BBQ items traditionally. The wait time was around 30 min which is fine as they were very busy. Visually it's not the fried to almost charred look that is served in the region (that's a good thing IMO). The spice level hmm again faltered a bit. Not the knockout punch that I associate with this dish. Bread was ok and the salad was forgettable. If you like the taste profiles of this region you will enjoy this place and the prices are very reasonable to boot. For me this is just an ok place to visit.

I had dinner at Bamiyan Kabob on Sat night and the place was packed with families and people who wanted to get their share of the delicious kabobs. You order your food at the counter and wait for your number to be called. Had to wait about 10 minutes but it was fairly quick. The place is only so big but seating wasn't a problem as people just ate and left shortly afterwards. I ordered the chicken kofta kabob dinner (one skewer of chicken, one skewer of kofta which is ground beef). Both were delicious and flavourful. The chicken was extremely juicy and not dry at all. The dinner came with rice, salad, and bread. The rice is out of this world, I could eat it everyday if I wanted to! Amazing. Price wise it may be a bit more expensive but the portions you get are huge. First time trying Bamiyan Kabob and Afghan food and definitely will not be my last!

Ordered take out and waited about 15-20 minutes to get the food. Ate this in the car to taste the freshness of the food. It's really good! This is the lamb chop rice platter. Even though it was a little burnt it had full of flavour. Definitely coming back to try more from the menu!

My pal and I decided to go to Bamiyan Kabob for lunch after going for pedi's. For a Saturday afternoon (3:oo pm), it was packed! There was no place to sit so we opted for take out to bring back to my place. We ordered the regular chicken (a-ok, nothing to write home about), tikka (tender, flavourful beef) & tandoori kebabs (delicious!) with rice, salad, and 2 naan breads. For all this food, the bill was under $30. Make sure to ask for the yogurt sauce as they don't give you any unless asked. Good for: cheap eats

Cooks are now searing the meat properly, hallejuah! 3 years after my terrible experience with undercooked kebabs, I wanted to give them another shot. I mean they can't be serving raw kebabs for 3 years and still be open right?! Dramatic improvements, my chicken breast and ground chicken kebabs were super tender! I've always loved the tomato salad that comes with the kebabs @ Bamiyan, compared to the next door joint where you get just a simple, plain and lazy iceberg with skimps of tomatoes and cucumbers. Welcome back Bamiyan!

I have visited this Bamiyan Kabob location twice in the past month. I enjoy the food, as it is consistently good, huge portions for the price, and the ample seating. The parking lot can be very packed, and sometimes difficult to navigate, however I suggest parking towards Pasha turkish restaurant for more spots. My first visit, I ordered the half chicken dinner which was decent. I found the chicken to be a tad dry, needing the hot sauce and the white sauce to resurrect it. My second time, I ordered the Chaleep which is essentially hamburger meatloaf with a bunch of spices. This was better than the chicken. It came with 2 huge pieces of Chaleep, over a bed of rice and a side of freshly baked bread. Each meal is entitled to 2 sauces (hot sauce or white sauce). I feel like not many know of the white sauce, as its behind the counter and not visible to customers, however I highly suggest you request this with your meal! All walks of life come through Bamiyan Kabob's doors. My last visit on a cold Friday night saw: Police officers, families with crying babies, office co-workers, friends, and solo diners. Note: The portions are HUGE, you can definitely share a plate with someone!

    Filet Mignon

I absolutely LOVED my the filet Mignon. Was cooked perfectly. I very rarely get Filet Mignon that's cooked as well as Bamiyan had. I called in to order and the woman on the phone was friendly and efficient. I got my order on time and everything was flavorful and delicious. Next time I would say half the amount of rice and more salad. So good. Will definitely return

Better go when you don't have any other plans... Cause i waited 25 minutes for only 2 wraps! Not sure if they missed my order or what.. buy at least 5 orders that came in after me got their food before i did. The food was only average.

    Mantoo (beef dumplings) Amazing!

A solid four stars. After we biked out to the Aga Khan Museum (from Queen west) we planned to get something interesting to eat. From a quick search it looked like Afghan food is local specialty in the East York area. We trusted the glowing Yelp reviews for Bamiyan and we were not disappointed. They really do kabobs well. The place isn't meant for fancy dinning but it is really well kept and nicely appointed. The staff were very friendly. We had a Chicken and Kofta and a Barg (beef filet Mignon) and we couldn't resist having a plate of Mantoo (beef dumplings) - even though it was a little too much. All the kabobs were perfectly cooked and juicy. The sauce that came with it was a little spicy and went well with the meats. The naan was a bit disappointing but we weren't there for bread. The dumplings were pretty special though - they came with a tomato sauce (with lentils in it) and yogurt on top as well. The dough was super thin and delicate. The beef filing had some kind of green herb in it. Delicious!

    Tandoori Chicken kabob dinner

You hungry? You wanna eat well? You don't wanna spend a lot of money? Then get your butt over to Bamiyan Kabob, order a plate, and Ka-Bob's Yer Uncle, you got yerself a fantastic, filling meal! I sing the praises of the tikka kabob highly: grilled to perfection, moist, and gigantic without sacrificing meat quality. My DC had the chicken breast kabob and it was similarly moist and delicious. Loved the rice and nan, too -- super fresh and perfect. Conversely, the salad isn't so great -- it consists of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes -- but on the plus side the tomatoes were ripe and the lettuce fresh and crisp. No unripe tomatoes or limp lettuce here! The night I went, it was the evening of Eid, so it was PACKED TO THE FREAKING GILLS in there. People were practically spilling out onto the sidewalk. Long line (longer than usual, I guess), a wait for a table, and the parking lot was a madhouse. However, it's totally worth the wait. I was surprised that the food was so great given the craziness inside. It didn't matter, it was worth every minute of aggravation. Yup, it's that good.

I like to have a nice amount of the pink pickled beets (I think that's what they are?) for sourness, which plays well with the roasted dark flavor of the meat and garlic in the hummus. The bread was just a touch thin and kind of fell apart, but that was fine as the paper held the wrap together. If I were to be picky, I would add more onion and perhaps offer a side of garlic sauce. Totally yummy and I'd order it again! Service - there was one woman taking the orders and serving the food. You pay at the counter, and she brings the food to you on non-disposable plates. There is non-disposable silverware wrapped in napkins at the table. Once she drops off the food and pitcher of water (with paper cups), you are on your own. There's no checking to see if you need anything, but I suppose you could always walk up to the counter to ask for something. We were the only people in the restaurant the entire time. Ambience - Some Middle Eastern art on the walls, just okay. Kid friendly for high chairs, but we didn't have a chance/need to visit the restrooms. Parking is ample, as it shares parking with the mini-mall and grocery store. About the bakery - If you're coming for the bakery, don't bother. The bakery is around back and is dark, stuffy, and tiny (the size of a large walk-in closet). It didn't appear to have many ready-made items, and seemed more like a convenience store for Middle Eastern food, with some bulk items. I wonder if perhaps they do more catering orders, but I didn't see menus on the counter. The bakery had several cookie-like and small flaky items, which is nice, but I had no idea what I was eating. The sales clerk didn't know what the items were either, so CAUTION if you have food allergies. At $3.99 a pound, it wasn't horrible, but I didn't find pastries that I'd order again.

Then she proceeded to ask me to write a review, and I said that wasn't a problem at all. Then she insisted I do it in front of her. Well, that's where I drew the line. Until I had to call them for them to tell me they never made my food. So they gave 2 extra sodas as an apology so I took it as a one-off. Today I got pick up for kabob and I paid extra for sauce. My family member notified me that when they picked it up there was no sauce and that sauce is for "delivery only". So I walked in to ask about it, when I walked in the cashier was smiling and holding back her laughter looking at me. I didn't even get to the front yet and it made me feel really uncomfortable. I asked about the situation and she said there's no sauce and I said ok but I paid extra is there anything that can be done? And she said "ok but it's 60 cents" in a mean tone. Then she looked at my receipt and leaned over the tip jar so I felt uncomfortable and walked away. It's a shame but I don't feel comfortable ordering here ever again. The cashier acted very rude and it feels like I'm in high school being mocked by a mean girl. I don't wanna feel like that when I just came to ask for clarification.
