I honestly don't know what happened to this restaurant. The first couple of times I had a less than great experience recently I chalked it up to happenstance--any restaurant can have an off night or two. But now I believe something has changed. My whole family has noticed. The pad see ewe, which used to be the best in the city, is not good. No flavor and seems like it's just made quickly with no thought. The Tom ka soup is also not as good as it used to be. The summer rolls are wrapped in unappetizing cellophane and have no chicken or shrimp. I don't know if the pandemic has affected them but i really hope they pull it together. I'll go elsewhere until they do. read more

I ordered 5 star and was surprised with the lack of flavor and spice in the curry. Presentation was better than expected. I heard from a friend that the food at Bambu was pretty good, so we decide to try it. Wrong .... the food is GREAT! Thai is one of my favorite cuisines, and the food at Bambu is on par with some of the best Thai restaurants I have been to. We ordered an assortment of soup, appetizers, curries, pad thai, and seafood, and finished with the delightful coconut ice cream. The flavors were authentic, delicious, and well balanced, and all the dishes were flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everyone in our group of six thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The Bambu waitstaff is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The creative cocktails and full bar are certainly a plus. Try Bambu -- you will love it too! read more

Not Pei Wei, in a good wei. The service is wonderful and fast enough. It is very rare that a 5 Star Yelped restaurant has quick service, even my favorite coffee and tea establishments get a line at times. Good experiences take time, and fly by. I had an OMG experience with each dish here like no other Asian restaurant. My group ordered about 12 different entrees/appetizers, and we were blown away with each. Even the dishes that I steer away from had me breaking out the sopping biscuits. First, the spices are widely varied and severely potent. The flavors are deep, and the freshness of the ingredients are second to none. I loved the Esan Beef Jerky, the twice fried catfish - Yum Pra Duk Fu (OMG it is good) and a special dish with candied noodles...just ask for it....sweet, crispy noodles covered in greatness. Don't forget to bring a nice bottle of wine to cool your forehead and recline with friends. This is one Thai spot worth trying. I remember Bambu being on my radar, but never got to it. Apparently, the recent Dallas Morning News review has stirred up a lot of buzz and a friend emailed me we should check it out. So, hubby and I snuck in (ever desperate for good Thai in DFW) on a Saturday evening. It was definitely busy in that post good review way, but we walked over to the nearby grocery store and picked up some beer (that's right BYOB). The wait went pretty quickly and it was totally worth the wait. We started with a daily special - Esan sausage. This house made sausage was slightly spicy, had wonderful depth of flavors, and was delicious. We also ordered som tum (papaya salad) and pad prik khing with beef instead of chicken. If you've read any of my other Thai food related reviews, you might know I'm practically family with some hot Thai women back in Austin. The food that I ate at Bambu is something that's only been paralleled in meals where I dined with my Thai family...meals that were prepared by them or their friends/family. It was authentic (melt the face of of an average American) Thai style spicy. FABULOUS! I think that's the best compliment I can pay. The som tum was quite satisfying- the salty sour tang of fish sauce, slightly sweet twang of papaya, and the crunch of all fresh ingredients sprinkled with a few peanuts. The beef in the pad prik khing was tender and the green beans were fresh & snappy (not overcooked as often found in other places). My two favorite things (with only one visit so far) about Bambu: -they don't appear to be Americanizing their food...they're unapologetic about their creative dishes/flavors and challenging the average North Dallas palates -as the kitchen was wrapping up service for the night, one of the cooks walked out to the patio to chill out with a can of Bud Light I still haven't read the DMN news...not that I really care...cuz I don't always agree with "proper journalism" and their reviews. Hopefully, the buzz keeps these friendly folks at Bambu cranking out the good food. Update: pretty typical of some Thai spots...we've been on several occasions and Bambu waffles a little bit...when they're on it's 5 plus stars...when they're not it's still probably the best Thai in the area but not nearly life changing. Great Thai spot for lunch or dinner! The decor is modern and welcoming. The staff is prompt and incredibly friendly. They genuinely want to make sure that you are satisfied with your meal. So far I've had the pleasure of trying: Som Tum (Thai) - This papaya salad was absolutely perfect and they seem to be able to hit your heat request right on the mark. Just the right amount of salt, sour and sweet. I'm looking forward to trying their Laos style som tum on my next visit. Esan Beef Jerky - Very tasty with just the right amount of seasoning. This is a perfect companion to som tum with sticky rice. It is served with a side of sriracha. Yum! Sticky rice - I normally wouldn't comment on this but these folks give you a generous portion of sticky rice compared to other Thai restaurants in our area. It's made just right, not too sticky or moist and does not leave anything on your fingers. This is important since many folks use it as a utensil. Chu Chee Catfish - Excellent! First of all, this is a beautiful dish. The red curry mixed with the fresh veggies is so visually enticing. This dish is perfect as comfort food on a crisp autumn day. The red curry sauce is savory without overpowering the catfish fillets. The catfish fillets are cooked just right with great texture and consistency. Beef Noodle Soup - Any fan of Pho would do well to give this big bowl of noodle soup a try. The broth itself is delicious and full of flavor. The slices of beef, beef meatballs, noodles, sprouts just set it over the top. I only added a bit of their chili pepper condiments to kick up the heat factor. Other than that, it's an absolutely great dish. Panang (Chicken) - I did not personally try this dish but my husband really enjoyed it. It's his favorite Thai dish and he normally compares all others to my mother's version. His preference is for a fairly balance ratio of curry paste to coconut milk. He actually prefers it if they go lighter on the coconut milk. Bambu's panang was just right. Once again, they were right on when it came on to his heat level request. Came here for a late lunch (3pm) on Saturday and we were surprised to find out there were another 3 tables occupied. The server was attentive, he checked our table frequently and answered all of our questions. We came here because the owner of Sushi Rock, Mark, recommended it. Bambu is operated by his sister-in-law and the two restaurants work closely together. grilled baby octopus: the texture and seasoning are both good. They also brought out two different kinds of sauce grilled esan sausages: it didn't specify whether the sausages are home-made, but it was very unique and delicious. it was well-seasoned with a citrus-y undertone. the filling was tender and juicy as well. the plate came with different condiments, too moo yang: EAT WITH YOUR HANDS. Seriously, don't be shy, eat with your hands. Mark said he provided the menu for the marinade and I think that may be why he's a sushi chef...I'm just kidding. It's a good marinade, I'm just not getting a lot of flavor from the pork itself. I cannot believe I haven't written a review for our favorite Thai place in Dallas and all of Texas! My hubs and I try not to be super fatties, bc when we order from here, it is always a high carb meal! We come about 1-2 times every week and usually order takeout. What I love most about this place is that it is the only Thai restaurant where the food is not sweet! Thai food typically isn't sweet, but Americans have been affected by all the sweet Thai takeout places. Their food is always so fresh and amazing how well they blend spices. For me being so anal, I NEVER EVER have a complaint about the taste of their food. We always order the Drunken Noodles, curry and crab fried rice, curry chicken and may try another dish! We just love carbs! It is also one of the few places we can reheat the food and it doesn't affect the quality! I guess I have one complaint. A small restaurant but felt quite quaint! We sat outside due to the rare nice weather which made our dining experience nicer. They handed us a menu that was simple enough with quite a few varieties of entrees to choose from. For appetizer, we started off with Esan beef jerky (something we have never ordered at a Thai restaurant). It reminded me of the beef jerky the Asian moms would make at one of our house gatherings. I don't really know how to describe the jerky but it's different than the American one (so give it a try)! I was in the mood for some soup that night so I ordered the Yen Ta Fo Seafood. I never had this soup before so I was a little surprised when it came out really pink! I won't question why the dish was pink...there was a good amount of seafood (e.g. mussels, shrimp) in my bowl. The noodles were these giant flat strands that were fun to eat. The level of spiciness was a 3 which was a good spicy. My boyfriend ordered the crying tiger beef dish. The beef was sooo tender! The sauce that came with it was super yummy and I probably would order that dish the next time I come here. The Thai tea was done just right, not overly sweet nor bitter. I'm going to give Bambu 5 stars, even though I only visited once. I read Leslie Brenner's review in the Dallas Morning News and she gave it 4 stars. Leslie doesn't hand out the stars very freely, so I knew it was special. We went early on Saturday evening, arriving around 5. The restaurant is small and more contemporary with Asian touches. We ordered off the menu, Yum pra duk fu (catfish appetizer), crying tiger beef with sticky rice, and chicken with Basil, shrimp with garlic. The beef was some of the most tender and best quality beef I've had in a Thai restaurant. All the dishes were good, but the catfish blew me away. Don't expect catfish chunks - it is flaked catfish and you don't really taste it. But combined with the garlicky sauce - bliss! That sauce is also good with the beef. We had Thai Ice tea and mango with sticky rice (overpriced for the portion). The service was good and the owner came around a couple times suggesting different ways of eating the food. Even though it's a 40 minute drive from Grand Prairie (and probably $8 round trip in tolls) I will be back. read more

This place has been open for several months, but we went for the grand opening a few nights ago. The food was really good. They had a lot of items I don't see on typical Thai menus in the U.S. - Yum pra duk fu (catfish appetizer), crying tiger beef with sticky rice, and grilled calamari with a dipping sauce I'd never tasted before. I liked every dish we tried, and among the 12 of us, we must have tried 6 or 7 different dishes - family style. The service is very personal and friendly - as I find Thai people to be in general. My boyfriend (who lives in Texas) asked me (who does not live in Texas) to find us a restaurant to have dinner at. I stumbled across Bambu on yelp and thought it would be a nice place to try. And sure enough, it was. I was worried when we arrived because we were the only people in the place. The restaurant was tucked away in a little shopping center. We sat down and the waitress offered us Thai tea and coffee. Delicious and flavorful. We ordered the spring rolls with peanut sauce and the dumplings. The dumplings melted in your mouth! We split the Massamun Curry with seafood. The oysters were a little over done, but they were still very good. All of the food is made fresh so you do have to wait just a little bit longer than at a restaurant who has most things prepared, but it was worth the wait. The service was great and very attentive. Definitely not a dressy place and it would be acceptable to go in shorts or jeans. The pricing was so reasonable. We got out of there spending $33 for the two of us. It is worth trying! read more

I eat here every once in a while alone around 5PM when I feel like not going home for dinner. It must be the time that I go, but I am usually the only one in there (not a good sign). First off, I think the food is a bit overpriced, more specifically the appetizers. The peanut sauce for the summer roll seems artificial because it has this odd sweetener like somebody dumped sugarcanes. This last time, I had the pad thai spicy. It was okay, the spice wasn't a very fulfilling spicy, it was more like... "hey its there" and that's it. The smell was a bit funky, maybe it was the wok they used or something, but it had a funky smell. The service was okay, but there was this one point where the entire front of the house staff decided to go outside and enjoy the weather, while I was left alone with the phone ringing. Mr. Lonely! I think there are better thai restaurants around. It seemed from the other reviews, people just fell upon a hit-or-miss restaurants. I feel the same way. read more

Love Thai food when it's cold out. Been going here off and on for a while. The food has been consistent and place is kept very clean. However, the last trip was unacceptable. Ordered an appetizer, pad thai and laad na. The appetizer was okay except it came out AFTER our meal. The waiter never came back to ever refill our water or my hot tea. I had to keep asking. The pad thai tasted fine, although the noodles seemed bit more gelatinous than I am used to. The laad na however was a different issue. We got it with chicken and tofu. The waiter did tell us that there would be an upcharge which we were fine with. However, the tofu was NASTY! It must have gone bad because it tasted sour. We ended up picking out the tofu and put in on an empty plate. We have gotten this same dish here before and the tofu never tasted like this (or at any other Thai joints). We told a female waitress when she took out plates away that the tofu was bad. She informed us that she would tell the chef in the kitchen so he can check it out. We get our check and they still charged us the upcharge for the SPOILED tofu. Also, we asked for some fish sauce with thai chili peppers. After we got the bill, found out they charge $3 for this. How can a Thai restaurant charge extra for fish sauce?!?!??!?!? Bambu has been our last minute Thai go-to place. Not anymore! Time to find a new Thai joint. read more

Bambu is a Thai restaurant with a lot going for it. I was immediately struck by how bright, cheery, open, accessible and contemporary this restaurant feels. With its large windows and Buddha-themed art it's a welcoming and slightly contemplative establishment. Lovely layout, nice bathrooms and the like. Service was a bit slow but we seemed to have hit them at a busy time. Our server was quite pleasant and polite. The food was delicious from the steamed dumplings to the Crying Tiger Beef. The sticky rice that came with the latter was perfect. It's a large menu with many options including good choices for both vegetarians and those uninitiated in Thai cuisine. Located on the SE corner of Coit and Campbell, this place is quite the haul from my Oaklawn home, but WOW was it worth it! They come with little bits of lime, red onion, ginger, peanut, and what I believe to be scotch bonnet peppers (spicy!). The flavors were amazing! Each little element on the side added something different to the array; very fun! For the main course we had the Pad Prik Khing and the Crying Tiger Beef with sticky rice, both 4 out of 5 on the spicy scale. Pad Prik Khing is chicken with green bell pepper and green beans in what I'm begining to consider a Thai version of a mole sauce; no, there's no chocolate, but it's dark and dusty spice went wonderfully with the green beans and chicken. The Crying Tiger Beef was to die for! I may go back this weekend it was that good. You make little rice pancakes in your palm with the sticky rice to pick up the beef and then dunk the whole contraption into a wonderful sauce, that if I had to guess was a fish sauce mixture with cilantro, sriracha pepper, and ginger. Really, really tasty. We ended with the rice pudding, and I'll just say that even though we were stuffed, we finished the entire dish.... Yum! And the service was great. Very attentive and friendly. It was late on a snowy Wednesday and the wife and I were indifferent as to where we were going. We were in the area and the restaurant we intended to go to had shut down early due to Dallas's Snowpocalypse v2.0. So we drove by Bambu and my wife said, "Hey, let's try something new" and so here we were. The inside is new and typical of updated Asian restaurants. All the walls are painted in a different color - you know what I'm talking about, it's like Rainbow Sherbet in there. Orange, Pineapple, Raspberry, it's all there, just like you like it and like Rainbow Sherbet, it works. The price is average. Most of their entrees and dishes are about 9 or 10 dollars a piece. I ordered the something-something-something beef (it was Thai stir-fried flat noodles with peppers and onions). My first impression was, "this isn't going to feed me" and my wife pointed out that they had covered some lettuce under the noodles. Yes, I got the padded bra of Thai food. The taste was alright. The food is prepared pretty quick so the seasonings and flavors are on the surface of the food, it doesn't get the chance to work its way in. Would I order it again? Probably not, I could get better somewhere else for about the same price. And I was right, it wasn't enough. My wife got the Yellow curry with chicken. We tried each other's and I asked my wife if she'd get it again, she said, "it's okay. Your noodles are pretty good. I might get that next time." If there is a next time. All in all, it was alright. I always bring my friends here and have met for lunch business meetings and everyone has always enjoyed the food. They have also told me they have returned in other occasions. The atmosphere is nice and not too overbearing. The decorations are simple and nice. The small touches here and there helped keep the place looking nice. There is also some seating outside so you can eat outside on a nice day. Service was great everyone was really friendly. For the small amount of staff I was satisfied with the service I received. My family now orders from or eats at Bambu about once or twice a month. It won a coveted award as "Best Thai Food" in the Dallas _Observer's_ 2012 "Best of" contest. It deserves it. I've tried at least half a dozen Thai restaurants in DFW, mainly in and around north Dallas/Addison/Richardson/Farmers Branch/Carrollton. They're all quite good, but Bambu is the best of them. It doesn't offer portions quite as large as some, but the flavors are excellent. Go for the noodle and rice dishes and any seafood they offer. They have specials on a huge chalkboard that range from the daring to the economical. Try one. The atmosphere is your standard hipster-friendly, quasi-club restaurant/bar combo, but since it's located in the middle of suburbia, most of the regulars are local families and Generation X or older couples. The service is friendly and mostly attentive. I've never waited long for my food. It's also reasonable on the wallet; exclusive of drinks, and including tip, a lunch bill for 2-3 people should come to about $25-35; add $15-20 for dinner. Enjoy. read more

We were on our way to another restaurant; when my husband decided to drive through the shopping center to see what had changed since we moved a few years back. I saw this restaurant thinking it looked nice; I looked up the menu and my husband was game :) Never a regret! It was absolutely delicious! We decided to sit outside. I ordered the Pad See Ewe with shrimp, my husband ordered the Pad Kei Moi, our youngest had the Pad See Ewe with Chicken. We all enjoyed our meals. I liked that they asked what spice rating we wanted. The shrimp was tender and not fishy which made my meal excellent! My husband ordered the corn patties for us and they were warm, easy to eat with that sweet sauce...super good! At the end we ordered desert..sticky rice with mango oooh so delicious! My husband had the black rice pudding...it was okay; not my thing though. Overall a great find! Courteous staff, very attentive which was nice due to we sat outside to eat our meal. In most places they just forget your outside with your meal but the waitstaff continuously checked us, refilled our drinks, and just made sure we were happy. Been looking for a great Thai food joint for awhile now. We happen to stumble on this one while deciding where to eat for lunch with a coworker. This one is a bit hidden in the back of the shopping complex, just drive around Starbucks and Qdoba and you will find it. The service is great and the waitress was prompt on getting our drinks and taking our order. One of the owners was out conversing with her customers and came over and ask how we were doing. You don't see this a lot in Thai places, where they seam to hide behind the counter. She really wanted us to enjoy being their and would check back with us frequently. I order the Basil Fried Rice with beef and my friend order the Pad Kee Mao with chicken. You can select the level of spiciness you want your dish to be, they range from one to five stars, or by name mild, medium, hot, Thai style, Light Me Up. we both went with Thai Style. When they brought out our order it was in generous portions, all ingredients were fresh and tasty right down to subtle hint of basil, not so over bearing as some place seem to do.
