This gem of a place is a great find deep in the suburban heart of... Richardson! Yes, Richardson, Tx. Tucked in at the back corner of an assuming business area. They offer great prices, comfy environment and best of all, awesome selections. We only stayed for a glass but surely enjoyed that short stay. Couches, high tops, and a fireplace. If you know nothing about wine or the wine business then this is the place for you. Wholesale distributors are forced by regional distributors to take pallets of junky wine to get the wines they really want. They then sell it off to retailers at very low prices or it will sit in their warehouse. They may give it to them as 3 cases free if you buy 3 and then retailers like the WA will sell it with a normal markup and make huge profit. Meanwhile, the people that go are psychologically under pressure to like the wines as they are being told how great they are and they are drinking junk. In lookng at the entire wine list there are only 3 wines on it worth buying and none woud be any I would normally buy. So, if you want cheap junk wines go to the WA. read more

We go to the The Wine Authority pretty much every week, and the owner Tom is the NICEST person who just wants everyone to have the best time, make some friends, learn about wines, and discover new wines through tastings. His pricing is great, and the membership is so worth it. The Tuesday tastings are a blast, and Tom really has fun with the bar making each night a fun experience with different activities. His events are not to be missed! Tom and all the folks that work at TWA take the time to get to know you and what you like so you always have a personalized experience. I do enjoy a good glass of wine. However, I wanted to find a place that had a more comfortable atmosphere and felt like a place for friends. So, I googled and found The Wine Authority. I was a tad skeptical pulling up. It is hidden and off the main road it felt. That all changed when I walked in. The atmosphere was relaxing and the staff/people were super friendly. The staff helped me in picking a wine flight and going into detail of some of the wine selections. I was even able to meet the owner. He was very polite and kind. Lastly, as the night progressed I was able to see how the place quickly filled up with people but not overwhelming. It seemed as everyone knew each other there. There is a great atmosphere and the owner came up multiple times to check-in and answer any questions we had. I wish they had more of a standard wine tasting experience, as creating your own 3 glass tasting costs half of the glass cost, each, and that adds up quickly ($22 for a flight of 3 reasonably priced wines). The selection of wine is great and it's nice to have the option to taste it before buying a bottle. Amazing hidden gem that I found today! I live in the Richardson area and just wondered why there wasn't a nice wine bar to frequent. I have now found one and couldn't be more happy. I met the Sommelier, Kyle, and he was very knowledgeable and personable. He educated me on wines to the point where I canceled my wine membership with another wine company and joined his. I had such an amazing experience at The Wine Authority. I was able to rent the space and host Friendsgiving with 20 of my closest friends and it was an EXCELLENT VENUE. The ambiance and shop decor worked well for decorating and didn't require us to add much. The shop is super spacious and has plenty of seating whether you desire to be together as one large group or separate out for some good side conversations. :) The owners Kyle and Jazz were more than accommodating and such a joy to have around. Did I mention the wine? We were able to get so many variations of good wine to go along with our dinner. I didn't have one sip that I didn't enjoy. Kyle is very knowledgeable on each selection and great pairings. My friends and I were feeling gooooooddd and it helps that they also have good music (oh! And the cowboys game was on the big screen). It's super easy to get to in Richardson and has plenty of parking. I'd definitely recommend as a good hangout spot or venue to host events. read more
