I've been to BAMBU a few times now, always for boba - although you can access it from the parking lot, the first time was because it's also open to the food court kind of situation in Asia Time Square, where we'd just tried the new Korean corn dog place (yum!). If a place makes them fresh, I will almost always get an avocado smoothie - and BAMBU is not a powder mix and call it good type place. It is bright and slightly schmancy on my typical boba place scale, and has tons of drink options. They also have a small case of gorgeous macarons. Service is friendly counter ordering with a smallish but nice seating area for drinking or waiting - or wander out the back door to the food court for a table and/or other treats. So, how are the avocado smoothies? I have no idea! I went wild and chose a coconut milk tea with boba, 75% sweet, and it was SO FREAKING GOOD. I seriously felt like I'd out-Whataburgered everyone (including my former self, ha!). It wasn't just like coconut milk, and didn't taste like artificial flavoring - it was a rich, silky, toasty coconut flavor that wasn't syrup-y or too tea-heavy. I have ordered the same each of the several times I've returned since. I know this is a chain, but it's run like a small local shop, and gosh darn it but that cup of coconut heaven is just so tasty! I will make time to snag a drink with every trip to the Asian market on the other end of the building. Or just because, which has definitely already happened. read more

I'm not a sucker for sweet, but definitely a sucker for coconut anything! They have the best looking store for a Vietnamese dessert place (I know it's fairly new, but most Vietnamese stores are usually not very well decorated). Plenty of choices to choose, from smoothies, to hot drinks, to che (my favorite and what I come here for). It helps a lot that they have pictures for all their che (Vietnamese dessert drinks, most come with coconut milk, must try!), cuz after reading all the description for a little while, they seem to all sound the same for some reason. I love BAMBU and the idea of it with straight traditional Vietnamese dessert. This place stands out from the typical dessert places, such as boba where it's a dime of dozen. They use real fruit here and the dessert isn't too sweet. I had the Bambu special with fresh coconut water, pandan jelly, red tapioca, longan, and other desserts. As a whole, I think Bambu is a total 3 stars out of 5, and honestly its specifically one item on the menu thats carrying the rest. I am well aware that Bambu is known for their Vietnamese che and that's what most people generally get when they are here, but I personally do not like it. The che just taste like a concoction of canned items thrown together and served with ice and a coconut milk of sort sweetener. As for the drinks, almost everything taste pretty powdered such as flavors for milk teas and certain blended items. The two drinks I normally stick to are: iced vietnamese coffee and almond milk tea with cofee jelly. Let me tell you something, the only reason I come here so often is for the almond milk tea with coffee jelly. Holy cows. SOO GOOD. My common issue with almond milk tea, is that most boba places use almond flavoring which is extremely artificial and strong, but unlike the rest, Bambu uses actual almond milk, inside their almond milk tea. It's heavenly. Super light and refreshing, with a very slight creaminess that's perfect - and the coffee jelly enhances the almond milk tea even more. Bambu has a happy hour from 2-7pm where if you buy two drinks, you get one free. I generally try to come between these hours and scoop up 3 almond milk teas...which I sometimes share to my boyfriend if I'm feeling generous. They only have one size here and it looks like a medium. The place is great for multiple drinks an order because every four you purchase you get one free. You can go inside the Hong Kong market and get it from the stand for the same price but more sugar cane. Basically it's green jelly, red jelly with water chestnut inside, green bean paste (kinda like peanut butter but think green bean), cocconut milk and grass jelly. Topped with shaved ice! At first bite, it may seem sweet...however, when the shaved ice starts to melt, it usually mellow out the sweetness. What makes this place good and worth $5 per cup is the correct texture of the red jelly with water chestnut. This particular jelly is what I judge heavily on. It gives a crunch texture to the dessert!! That's my favorite part when eating this dessert. If the red jelly does not have that crunch, you should put down that dessert and walk away!!!! I personally think that this Bambu needs a lot of improvement. I have been to the one in Richardson and think that there is a drastic difference between the two. Service: Sub Par at best. I decided that I wanted to make a late night drink run & checked their hours online. The website said open till 10. I shot over there around 9:15 and when I got there the place was closed. I wasn't too disappointed with that because the internet isn't the most reliable source. I called the next day to ask what time they close and I mentioned that the hours were wrong online.
