We needed both bamboo removal and a new fence, so Joe's company seemed like the perfect fit. We were on vacation when they removed the bamboo so I can't say much about that other than it seems eradicated properly. The fence they put in seems very well constructed, using proper footings. The crew was very respectful and easy to coordinate with. There was an issue with our retaining wall that came up during construction of the fence. Joe resolved the issue reasonably. I would recommend. read more

We used Joe and his team to knock out a pretty gnarly bamboo grove in our backyard. We were initially hesitant to due to costs (when I say gnarly I mean maybe the largest in Portland proper), but pulled the trigger after it haunted us for long enough. His team came through and eliminated it with care. It was impressive to watch as bamboo is no joke. None of our property was harmed, the workers were very attentive to detail, and Joe communicated extremely well. Our bamboo nightmare is over, finally. read more

Wow. Just wow. Not alot of 5 stars reviews in recent years. But Joe gave us a little dose of hope - along with a BEAUTIFUL matching gate to our IPEA deck. Skills - A++ Workmanship - A++ Correspondence - A++ Personability - of Joe himself and his installers - A+++ And a fair price - A++ Where were you Joe all those other projects ago! Can't wait to see what we can build next together. Hopefully - for us ... you'll have room on your schedule as I am sure business is only going to get more busy! THANK YOU! read more

Amazing experience the whole way through! Joe was very responsive right away with quotes and scheduling, made it an easy decision to decide to work with him. I had seen another project they had done in neighborhood and the quality was fantastic so we knew we were in good hands. Joe's crew was very respectful with our property and always cleaned up at the end of the day. They were also really nice and surprisingly quiet for the type of work. I had one minor concern during the installation but Joe was quick to respond to my concerns and reassure me all was good and it was. I personally felt the price was good for the amount of work and after seeing the finish, I think the price is extremely good for the quality of work. I also had a very specific design in mind and Joe didn't try to talk me out of it, he instead worked closely with me to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. Thank you Bamboo Grove! You guys are awesome! read more

Bamboo Grove - a garden with a wooden fence - Landscaping Near Me

Joe and his crew did a great job clearing out a very vigorous bamboo grove on our property. It was in a very tight spot on the side of our house with a concrete wall right up against the bamboo. They removed all of the bamboo and cleaned up the site after they were done. Would recommend to anyone needing to remove bamboo. Bruce Harris read more

We stumbled over Bamboo Grove LLC when we needed a dog-proof fence built, and they did such a beautiful job, we recontacted Joe Vacarella a few months later to build a new backyard deck. They do such beautiful work, are so professional, maintain timelines, and are so detail oriented, I'm honestly trying to think of other projects they can help with when budget allows. Their bids are more than fair for the level of craftsmanship, but Joe was also willing to work with us when we needed to find places to shave a few dollars to fit in our budget without compromising quality. Simply the best in Portland. We'll definitely use him again. read more

Joe and crew conducted the following services. His bid was very competitive with another landscaper and lower than two others. I selected him as he seemed the most trustworthy of the bunch. Removed 10' x 6' bamboo stand with walk behind excavator Backfilled with approximately 1.5 yards soil blend Installed 6" X 18" sand trap along property line Installed 10' 6' fence section with cedar boards Used hedge trimmer to prune Holly back to 20ft Removed Arbor Vitae with chainsaw Installed 4 Italian Cypress trees Pruned Rhododendron Installed 1 (24 gallon) Sango Kaku Installed 1 (24 gallon) Acer Palmatum 'Burgandy Lace' Moved and replace boulders Work was completed within the promised four days read more

Joe and his team ripped out an old rotten side deck and fence and replaced it with a beautiful 7 ft tall fence and stairs. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Not only is the fence stunning, working with everyone at Bamboo grove was a pleasure. Joe responded to emails right away, even on the weekends which I didn't expect! Austin and Nick gave great advice and answered all of my questions. They were efficient and tidy, always leaving my backyard cleaner than they found it. Joe was easy to get along with and had lots of great ideas. He was very patient with all my emails. I will recommend these guys to anyone looking for a contractor and hope to work with them again! read more

Bamboo Grove did a fantastic job transforming the backyard at our new home. It was a giant lumpy mud pit with chain link fence and in a matter of weeks they turned it into a beautiful, Japanese-garden-esque sanctuary. It's gorgeous and has already gotten lots of compliments, not to mention we now enjoy spending time there. The experience was also wonderful - Joe was so knowledgable and helpful and the two team members (Josh and Spencer) who completed the on-site work were incredibly professional and friendly. Hopefully they post before and after pictures on their website because it's seriously dramatic. Highly recommend! read more

We can't say enough fantastic things about Joe, the owner, & his team. I originally contacted Bamboo Grove to help us with an out-of-control black bamboo problem (gorgeous, but out-of-control!) I just needed a professional to remove it! Our removal project grew into an entire backyard makeover. We were so impressed by Joe's professionalism, his vision, his work ethic, his humor & the way he presented himself & his team, we felt confident that he was the perfect match in helping us attain the backyard that we love! We now have a beautiful horizontal slatted fence and a custom rolling gate, a raised garden area, a sandbox (already a hit with our kids!), a gorgeous paver patio and new sod. Our livable space has increased immensely and we love every bit of it. (Now, if the sun would just shine!) We would absolutely encourage anyone who is in need of a diversified and skilled team for any kind of home or yard project to look no further than Bamboo Grove! read more

I highly recommend Bamboo Grove!! Joe and his crew are friendly, professional, courteous and were such a pleasure to work with. We had a covered patio added to the back of our house and it turned out better than we could have ever anticipated. It has completely changed our house. Joe was so great whenever we had changes to make. His crew that worked on the project were always professional and truly look like they enjoy their job and the company they work for. Joe makes it a point to hire people that he can trust to represent his company in the best way. I can't wait to have them do our next project!! If you have a project call Bamboo Grove! read more

I hired Bamboo Grove in the spring of 2011 for weekly landscape maintenance (including pruning, invasive species control, new plantings, and pretty much anything else that I need worked on by professionals on our 3-acre lot in the SW Hills). I've been very impressed with Joe and his team; they are reliable, responsible, hardworking and pro-active, and have made our gardens and the surrounding landscape look fantastic for what I think is a reasonable price. I highly recommend Bamboo Grove without qualification. read more

Very excited about our new brick patio & gravel/paver pathway. Joe and his team were great to work with, personable and professional. Timely service and a quality job. Only rarely have I engaged the services of organizations that impressed me with their professionalism and fine work. When Bamboo Grove recently built a fence at my new house in Lake Oswego, they provided one of those rare experiences. Joe and his entire crew of builders did an exceptional job. They were reliable, they solved problems creatively, they did high-quality work, they worked in the freezing cold (even while snow was falling), and at the end of each work day they left my property in pristine condition. My dogs now have a safe place to play, and I have a beautiful fence. I recommend these guys wholeheartedly. read more

My wife and I have been very happy with the work performed by owner/operator Joe and Bamboo Grove. Quotes were competitive and reasonable and the quality of work is extremely high. In our experience, Joe and his team are very detail oriented and customer conscious. The Bamboo Grove team is hardworking and Joe communicated clearly with me to make sure I was happy with the result. I recommend Bamboo Grove to all of my friends and family--high quality services and a great value. Joe did a great job removing a bamboo grove and building a nice looking fence. Reasonable price and when a couple of bamboo shoots reared their ugly heads post-removal, Joe sent his guys over ASAP as promised to remove them. Fair price. Beautiful finished product. We're so happy with our new backyard! The Bamboo Grove team was great to work with.

Bamboo Grove was the most expensive of three estimates to do a sizable landscaping job in our yard and they completed it in a timely manner and did the work we had agreed upon. The problem came in that the main contractor did not tell us what things we might want to consider with our design (they went off my plans and I am not a landscape designer). I guessed at 18 stairs, and plants etc. It was never suggested that we might want edging of some sort to divide the gravel and the mulch and that was going to cost $270 an hour plus materials to put in (3 men worked the job most of the time). So we ended up hauling brick pavers from Lowe's and doing it ourselves. The main contractor admitted to me that he felt he underbid our job and we got the distinct impression after that that he just wAnted to get done and get out of there. We wanted a few extra things done and were willing to pay for those things but the main contractor sent curt texts about any extra work read more

I was very happy with Joe and Bamboo Grove. I hired him to remove bamboo from my rental property and from the neighbor's yard where it had spread. His quote was competitive, the job was completed in a timely manner and he was very communicative. His team even repaired a French drain for free that wasn't in the contract. It was a costly situation which needed to be dealt with and Bamboo Grove helped ease my concerns and put the whole Bamboo matter to rest once and for all. I would highly recommend this company for bamboo removal. read more

Excellent quality and worth every penny! Joe and his team made the whole experience easy! Would definitely use Bamboo Grove again...

We are so pleased with Bamboo Grove's work! We came to them with two projects...one was a rebuild of a failing retaining wall and the other was a "special circumstance" with an existing horizontal stainless steel cable fence. The retaining wall included demo and excavation of the existing wall, and installation of a french drain, geo-textile, concrete footer and rebuilt wall. Then we asked Joe Vacarella (owner) to design a custom solution for our cable fencing to secure it so our dog could not escape. Joe did a fantastic job of retro-fitting a solution that didn't compromise the esthetic of the original fence design, and keeps Laddie safely in his own yard! Joe and his crew were professional, personable, tidy, hard-working and always on time. My husband and I feel like we received great work for a fair price. We will definitely use Bamboo Grove again, and recommend them without hesitation! read more

Just like Mike K's experience ... Called them to come out for a quote. Took 2 weeks for them to come, once they did they did not ever send a quote or communicate again... He knew we were in a bad spot and promised to respond but did not... Communication is key with any person and especially with your contractor, for us we will never use or reccomend them, try Bamboo Garden or Bamboo Valley instead. read more

I had Joe and his crews worked on my backyard. The work included remove lawn, using gravel to replace them, mulching , planting box, stair replacement. They are on time, professional and responsible. they helped me to check sprinkler system as well and told me what they found about the system. I will use them for my future project again. I contacted Bamboo Grove to come bid on replacing our deck, which is falling apart. Joe showed up at my house at the agreed upon time, took measurements, and said he'd have a quote ready for me the following Monday. I waited a few extra days, then on Wednesday reached out via email to see if he had a chance to put together the quote, and never got a response. That was over a month ago. Our deck is fairly small, so I assume that it's just not a big enough project for him, but any communication would have been nice. read more

Exceptional service and quality of work. Bamboo Grove ripped out our old cedar fence and replaced it with a beautiful horizontal cedar privacy fence. Joe was responsive, polite, and flexible throughout the entire process. His team was professional, fast, and respectful of our time and property. The fence is built to last and I am confident it will. It keeps our dogs safe and secure in the backyard and gives us a sense of privacy and security we never had before. We will be using Bamboo Grove for future projects and will refer our friends and family to Joe in the meantime. read more

We were really excited to work with Bamboo Grove for our landscaping needs. We had come up with a contract and wanted to make a few changes, nothing unrealistic at all (not paying 1/2 up front and adding a 2 year warranty to the irrigation system), which Joe initially said was not a problem. Then after over a week of not responding, he sends an e-mail saying that his company is "not a good fit." Wasted a lot of our time and energy. Very unprofessional. read more

Fantastic crew that did fantastic work. We hired Bamboo Grove to remove several trees, remove an old fence, and build a new fence. We needed some serious bamboo removal and a fence/gate replacement. These guys did an outstanding job for us, in every respect. From the initial estimate through the completion of the project they demonstrated skill, knowledge, friendliness, punctuality, hard work, and value. Joe and his team were absolutely phenomenal to work with. From the quoting process, through the entire project, to checking back to see how we were enjoying the new fence, this company was flexible, very reasonably priced, accommodating, and just plain kind. I thought they did a great job at a reasonable price and were easy to work with. High points for clean up!

Joe and his crew did a great job on my yard. They put up 75ft of beautiful cedar fencing, removed old cyclone fence, removed dead/dying arbovida and lilac trees, and removed an old outside fireplace. Joe and his team demolished a 3x6 stand of running bamboo that we had been fighting with for 15 years! The job was bid and accomplished within a week of contacting him and the space looks great!! What used to be unruly bamboo is now fine soil that (after amending) is perfect for a veggie garden. No chemicals were used, just a shovel and a stump grinder. Joe and Austin, the man who actually did the work, were just great to work with!! The best part is that unlike the other bamboo company I got a bid from, Joe guarantees his work for one year and it was clear from the first minute I spoke with him that he has a strong commitment to creating customer satisfaction and service. We highly recommend working with Joe for whatever project he wants to tackle. read more
