June 9, 2026 Over the past six years we've utilized Preferred Landscape Services (PLS) for multiple projects and have always been pleased with the final product. They installed our beautiful paver patio with a french drain 5 yrs and did an awesome job!! We had no hesitation when scheduling PLS to power wash the patio and replace the polymeric sand. I asked Dave what the power washers PSI was, he indicated it would be a 3,500 PSI. We'd always used a battery operated 450 PSI power washer so I researched the appropriate PSI for washing pavers. Everything I read recommended a 1,000 to 1,500 PSI which caused concern. Given PLS installed the patio and our comfort with their services we trusted PLS and dismissed our concerns. A 4,200 PLS power was used to power washed the patio which severely damaged the edge of multiple pavers. Dave offered to look at the results. His response was "they did exactly what they were suppose to, to clean out all old sand. When he asked "what resolution would satisfy us"? My response was, I wish I would've selected someone else to complete the work. Short of that I wanted PSI to replace the pavers. Dave's response was, "they don't make that color any more". I'd file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau however PLS isn't accredited with the BBB. I also couldn't find PLS on the OR Landscape Contractor Board. Dave was very responsive to my email asking about doing some hard escaping around my yard, and he scheduled a meeting to come out and look at my space. I explained to him that, due to the size of my yard, I'd probably need to do my projects in phases, and he gave me some good input into the order of things should happen. He followed up with a proposal that night, with each area separated so that I could see the price in phases. His guys came out a couple weeks later to install a fence. They were courteous and hardworking, but what I really loved is how they would hold each board up, and then flip it to see which side looked and fit better. They did a great job, and I also liked that they were here at nine, took a lunch break, and left by 3:30 to be back to the office by 5 each day. Since I already knew what I was paying, I wasn't worried about them racking up an hourly wage or anything, and to me this showed that the company cares that their workers get to have a life and they're not just rushed through each job, slapping up boards as fast as they can go. We needed our side yard sprinkler system hooked back up and adjustments made to the front. We called a handful of highly rated companies and Preferred was the quickest to respond. They arrived on time for our consult and, due to a cancellation in their schedule, were able to squeeze us in the following day. The work done seems to be of good quality and both gentleman seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. Our only minor issue was that the tech left when he was finished without letting us know. We reached back out once we realized he'd left and the original manager/associate came back out to answer any remaining questions and take payment. Overall a pretty good experience. They were on top of communication, they always arrived in time, their bid was extremely fair for the quality of work they deliver, and they were so kind. Since moving to our home in Dec of 2022, we have utilized Preferred several times. In addition to having them do some general yard clean-up, we have also had them do some landscaping and also two paver projects, one of them fairly large. Dave, the owner, is great to work with. He is a good listener, conscientious, and has a good eye for design and working with what we have. On the maintenance side, Geronimo is kind and responsive. Their teams are careful and they do their best to leave everything looking great when they are done. In fact, after our recent landscaping, they weeded an area we hadn't asked them to do, which made their new landscaping look even better. It was a thoughtful touch that we really appreciated. They seem to work as a great team and have fun together. Their costs are competitive and lead times are reasonable, even during busy seasons. We'll definitely use them again. read more

I cannot state how happy I am with the work they did for us. Our backyard was suffering due to some grading problems from when the house was built that resulted in the grass dying. We had Dave come out and talk about removing the grass and discussed an option to correct the problem. He immediately had a solution that was exactly what we wanted. He gave us a quote on the original scope and it was so reasonable we asked about fixing a sprinkler coverage gap we had in our front. This was also reasonable. When Dave got done with my French drain i told him i was having trouble with my pond in the back yard. Every year I had to rebuild it, leaks, leaves and debris. I asked for a quote to replace it and decided to have Preferred do another project for me. Again very please with the design and sound of the running water. The crew was very courteous and kept me informed of what they were doing and if liked the placement of the stone. We used Preferred Landscape Services to do a complete overhaul of our backyard. We had a limited budget and they worked with us on the design and labor to allow us to stay within budget. I had a vision of making my backyard into a zero-maintenance space that I could use for entertaining as well as personal enjoyment. Using a combination of river rock, lava rock, and gravel, David designed a space that looks amazing and will serve us well for years to come. David was also flexible with the design and kept the backyard from looking like just a quarry with thoughtful placement of the lava rock in decorative shapes. These guys do a great job. I will have to upload pictures later as I have had them do more than one job on my property as well as using them for monthly maintenance. Steve is super easy to work with and VERY responsive. I like that I can contact them all hours of the day through their site (I work nights) and wake up to a reply. If any issues arise, they are right on it! Their prices may be more than other companies but I am a firm believer you get what you pay for. My neighbor uses another company that charges 15.00 less per month. Yes, their yard is nice but I would argue that Preferred has better looking equipment and is the only landscape company I have ever dealt with that has such an open line of communication. I've had them add landscaping to the 50% of my property that didn't have it as well as a gravel walking path from the front to the back. I just gave them the idea of what I was looking for and they ran with it! I let them pick all the plants and how they were placed. Everything looks fantastic and the additional irrigation added will ensure everything continues to grow. His guys worked hard digging those irrigation lines! (and they were very polite) My previously mentioned neighbor shook my hand after the recent addition and asked if he could pitch in money for what I had done. He was so grateful because he said it added value to the whole neighborhood, as it is on the street corner of my lot/public side of my fence line. It was a nice gesture and just solidified the choice I made to have it done and the choice to have Preferred pick the finishes. Now my next-door neighbor has added plants to their exterior fence line so our additional plants run concurrent. It was cool that it sparked others to fill it in as well. As Steve mentioned, there is one spot left that could use some plants and I might take him up on that down the road. Right now, I am happy with how everything has turned out. I would always say to get multiple bids, I did when getting the first project done/a monthly maintenance package, but you cannot go wrong with Preferred Landscape! read more

Of the three different landscapers who we contacted to get an estimate Dave was the most responsive. He came on time and was very friendly and talked us through what we wanted. He also provided us with an itemized estimate in a very timely manner while we had to wait weeks and eventually follow up with the others. We really appreciate Dave taking the time during a very busy summer season to come out and give us an estimate. DO NOT RECOMMEND Our project was: 1. Replacing our backyard grass with turf and because our backyard is sloped downward, it also needed a retaining wall in order to make a level area to lay down the turf. 2. Replacing the wood steps that lead out to the backyard with concrete steps. 3. removing dirt/bark dust and bushes and install pavers along the side of the house Pros: David came out, did an estimate in a timely manner. Pavers installed look fine despite that they weren't the ones we thought we were getting. CONS Retaining Wall: Our existing backyard already has a retaining wall for other trees and plants that already uses concrete garden wall cinder blocks. When David came out for the estimate he just wrote down that he would order the same ones so they match. What he neglected to see was that our existing blocks haven't been power washed in awhile and the color of our existing blocks is actually a dark red brick color. When he came to get the job started, he said he ordered the grey cinder blocks and it would be another 2 weeks if we wanted the red ones. Pavers: During the estimate David showed me pictures of smooth faced paver stones he would be using for our paver walkway. On the first day of the project, he then called and said they were out of stock of the smooth pavers and said they have this other style that has more of a wave texture. So we were stuck with those. Concrete Steps: Before I signed the contract I went through back and forth conversation with David about wanting round edges with a picture of what i wanted it to look like. He agreed they could do that. The first day of the project when he went over the details of the plan he said the steps would be normal squared edges. I had to remind him of the email conversation we had, he said that would cost more money of which he didn't even talk about in our email conversation. During steps creation I watched contractors shovel wet concrete into the frame for the steps and he literally dropped chunks of wet concrete onto our patio which is also concrete however it's more of a pebble type concrete (see picture of steps), so they left blotches of concrete in places that are clearly noticeable. In addition, they left 2 holes in our patio that they had drilled to use for the framework of the steps and they didn't even fill them in when they were done, I had to call David to ask them to fill them. Holes left in concrete could freeze over with water and crack the whole patio. AND THEN when they tore down the wooden steps, they threw the old wood pieces into our dirt bed that has our bushes, same dirt bed where my 2 year old son plays in.After they picked up the and left, my son found an old nail and some screws in the dirt (see pictures)!! That is just unacceptable for a so called professional company. It seems that David contracted out to some other company to do our concrete steps, I would have assumed he chosen a reputable company with a good track record, but that is NOT the case with this instance. Turf: We originally contacted SynLawn for our backyard project because we were referred by a neighbor that they had a good turf experience. A youngish guy came out to do an estimate, but because we needed a retaining wall, Synlawn does not do that kind of service and they referred us to Preferred Landscape. The SynLawn guy showed us his turf samples and we selected from there and he then said he would give our information to Preferred Landscape but not give us an estimate since they wouldn't be doing the install. When David arrived on the first day of the project, he showed me 2 samples of turf. I told him we already selected the turf we wanted from Synlawn and he was supposed to tell you what we wanted. David said he would call Synlawn later, but then he insisted on my selecting which kind of turf I wanted out of his 2 samples in his hand. So we picked one. David later followed up with me and he said he contacted Synlawn and they said I selected the same one that was David's sample. The next day I called Synlawn myself and asked them what kind of turf I selected when they came out for the estimate. The guy-the same guy that came out to do my estimate-said he has no record of what my turf selection was. Now after 3 months since completion we now suffer from turf burn (see pictures) due to our windows sun reflection is burning these brush strokes and melting our turf. David said he has only seen this happen 2x in his career and because it's "Damage caused by uncontrolled circumstances" he can't do anything about it. I told David he should mention to customers or even look during the estimate for windows where the sun could hit to at least warn them. He simple shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't see it happen often" For a company that prides itself on customer satisfaction and attention to detail..that is clearly not the case here. I requested a quote for a wall to be built and Dave came out and did an estimate. The next day I recieved a e-mail with the quote. I then ask for a small change and he sent a new quote. The new quote was for the change plus a five times increase in the cost of the original work. I will not be having him do the work. I don't think I can trust him. read more

I am not a client of this business but live next door to a house that uses this service. Last year 2018 I called Steve to let him know that his employee blew all my neighbors leaves from their backyard into my property. He kind of laughed it off and said he would talk to his guy. Never offered to come back and clean my yard, which surprised me. THIS year the same thing is happened. I had just cleaned my yard, then the next Day they came And blew all the leaves into my yard again. I decided to rake them down to the street thinking they would pick them all up the next week. I watched him the next week do the SAME thing and never picked up any of the leaves he Just blew them all into the road in front of MY HOUSE. plus blew more into my back yard. I had contacted several landscaping companies from the small mom and pop services to the big guys. I wanted about 900 sf of yard landscaped. I contracted the work with another company who strung me on for months. I called Preferred in their busiest time, (may) Dave came out within a week to give an estimate. Long story short from the first handshake to the last (today) he was patient with all my questions, was honest with my expectations, and easy to contact before and during the process. He may suggestions of materials, what would work and what wouldn't. He delivered what was promised, there were no hidden costs, and his crew were exceptional. They arrived each day on time, they cleaned up every night when they left, they were courteous and professional. They did this project this week when everyday was over 90.
